When is an Anaconda better than a Vulture?

I agree with EddyRockSteady. As a Vulture pilot, I find it to be the best pure-combat fighter, but a fully decked Warconda is the best combat vessel. It's virtually undefeatable by NPCs, even against elite wings. If you've got the credits, then it's really worthwhile.

I definitely expected that a python would be better than a conda for a long time. But I'd rather fly the suboptimal luxury ship that I can build into the behemoth.
And Behemoth it will be! :D

If you ever invest time to get the Prismatic shields on it, you have a potential 1820 MJ shield strength. That surely gives you solid endurance in any fight.
I fly my conda purely as a battleship these days: 2 C3 gimballed beams on top, the rest cannons. Beams eat smaller ships, and the alpha damage from the cannons on larger ships is just hilarious. But with Prismatic shields, several sets of A6 shield boosters and 8 scb's, I have to manage my power and have chosen not to use the class 1 hardpoints. Frankly, I see no difference in time to kill an opponent with or without them armed.
But you only equip a battleconda when you have enough credits to afford several insurance deductibles without breaking a sweat, imho; we are talking 20M+ if you manage to get your shields offline and don't bail out in time. Because exploding due to crashing with objects is a thing of the past with the conda shields. I have the video to prove it... ;)

You can get a half decent conda for PVE Res Farming for around 200m credits with a C rated power plant, A rated power distributer and frameshift drive and everything else around the D level except shields which can be around the C level. Stack on about 6 shield boosters and nothing is really going to get through unless you do something really stupid like take on 3 pythons... errrhummm....lol

Seriously tho, if you love your Vulture, try an FDL it will cost around 77m to get it A specd a bit more if you want the class 4PA. The FDL Its a lot more combat focused than the python and has awesome speed that can get you out of pretty much anything if things go bad. Yes I am biased towards the FDL, it flies a lot like the vulture (obviously not as maneuverable) and sounds freaking awesome, its like a sports car having unprotected sex with a tiger! but there is a lot of power management, just like in the vulture... . If you want to mix up some trading, then stick with the python, but thats going to cost you around 140-160m credits to get it up to full A spec, and is a lot slower than your used to.

I keep my conda for lazy RES farming and trading, and use my FDL for bounty hunting and fun. If your going to fly a FDL, make sure you manoeuvre with all pips to engines, and then when firing swap all pips to weapons. Dont put pips into shields unless your really low and need to make a retreat, but then only put 2 pips in there and everything else to engines.

Here are my builds.. the conda is a work in progress

After reading this thread, I'm tempted to try out the FDL. But I wouldn't use your configuration - too many power configuration problems. This configuration has stronger shields and useful fuel scoop. Really, an A1 fuel scoop isn't useful as it takes too long, causing the ship to heat up too much. I don't like getting interdicted by pirates while I'm overheated at a sun during refueling. Also, why would an FDL have a Cargo Scanner if it has no cargo racks? Better to use that utility slot for another Shield Booster.

omg, the FDL...
I have bought, sold, rebought and resold that ship too many times wanting to like it. 'nuff said.
My beef? Hardpoint loadout and power management and lack of compartments and.. well, you get the jist of it.

Aye, 50 million is peanuts compared to my weekly earnings courtesy of rating 5. As they say, it takes money to make money.
Rating two is not too shabby either, at least in A L-D control systems: All bounties are doubled and an additional 20% added to the result, also for non pledged players.
The additional 40% or 100% for pledged players boost it further, but if you want to make, say, 100 Million Cr per week, staying at rating 2 might be enough. The time saved in keeping your rank (one trip), can be invested in more bounty hunting and compensate the loss in rating payout. This only works for a galactic standing in the top three. Below that, that gap between rating 2 and 5 payout will be too much.
Basically, the powers with bounty bonuses are throwing money at players.

Back to topic:
A fighting Conda is good, if you want to stay in a conflict zone for a long time (all pulse layout and 6 SCBs).
The Python does the job nearly as good, but needs to watch out for multiple aggressor NPCs more often.
The FDL is better in RES hunting than in conflict zones due to the reduced number of large hard points.
The Vulture always felt too nervous for me with all that shaking. Hence I prefer the Courier for small jobs/missions.

You might be more of a Python type, then:). After using my FDL layout on the Python (3 fixed beams, +2 gimbaled pulses), I did not feel the urge to jump back to the FDL for quite some time.

The Anaconda is a fun ship, bull in a china closet in stations, and cannot land on outposts. The Python is the best crossover in the game imo. The Vulture is the best runabout pew pew vessel but can be overwhelmed by a small wing. Turrets on the Anaconda or Python can make short work of wings that aren't too beefy (NPC) but you risk blue on blue incidents.

I have almost 300m into my Anaconda and it's still middle of the road on combat.

I don't understand what you all are talking about.
"You can outfit anaconda to make it a ...", "conda is a crap comparing to ..." - this all about "grind until..." and "make it all efficient as hell".

this game is a bomb! it gives you a vast variety of possible experience. when you think only about "efficiency" - it all gets boring.

for me experience with every ships is just that - experience. Vulture? yes, it's great. it can give you a torrent of credits. I have both vulture and anaconda. both can give you the same amount of cr/hr.

experience. feeling. being a wasp and being an elephant who doesn't care about wasps. makes a difference, uh?

this game for me is about experience. yeah, making credits is good. and important. though getting experience of controlling a ship that is HUGE and mighty - it's nowhere near to having an efficient small ship that can give you the same amount of credits. f** those credits, I stand for experience and immersion! :)

and the last one: have ALL ships you like in your hanger. and use all of them on your own sake. they are all great, because they are all so unique
