Something is coming !!!

We mustn't be too negative, and I think it's often misinterpreted that we're too harsh: it's all about direction.

We already have minor factions; and major factions that many of us are ranked in - often highly.

Simplicity would demand that something is done with the major factions. Why be a post-Commander with the Federation, if it amounts to nothing? Why introduce a third tier of politics (PP), when the tiers above and below haven't been developed? That's my concern.

I hope that, in whatever is coming, it look strategic in its final intent, and has playability and gameplay at heart. That's my wish.

We do know that walking around is not the announcement at Gamescom 2015, but planetary landing (PL) hasn't been ruled out

walking around where? The geometry behind the pilot´s canopy is non-existant unless they somehow managed to make all ship interiors, which is unlikely.
And even if, what to do there? Interactive stuff? What puropse?
I´d say forget it.
I think it will be some space related feature, maybe more stuff to do for Powerplay or more Xbox exclusive content.
Or it will be another low hanging fruit feature like a landing platform on an asteroid/airless moon. Can´t possibly imagine anything else.
Powerplay was hyped like crazy and look what we got, something 82% of people don´t bother to play.

Difference is steamcharts is counting players logged in the game right now, and steamspy is counting the players that have logged in in the last 2 weeks. Not everyone plays every day at the same time. ;)

Consider that the average player will put in a little over an hour during a session, and that the average number of players at any given time seems to be around 5,000. 98,000 is pretty accurate given that.

If there are 5000 players on average in a given hour, and each plays 1 hour then the turnover would be 120,000 a day. However, the average playtime was 18.26 hours per player in the two week period, so 98107 / 18.26 = 5373 avg. concurrent players. So the numbers are indeed correct, and Elite is actually a lot more healthy than I thought. My earlier assertion that the forum poll could be 1/5th of the active player base is indeed a severe miscalculation. It's actually 0.8% of the active base just on Steam. :)

*Edit* So, us hardcore nutjobs are playing Elite for over half-a-day a week. Yeah, seems reasonable. :)

OK from the results of a recent poll Powerplay is failing miserably (sorry to the dev that cooked it up) Over 80% of forum visitors (825 at the time of this post) do NOT participate in PP, at this moment or ever.

Are FD going to release another unexpected update/feature .. who knows ?

We do know that walking around is not the announcement at Gamescom 2015, but planetary landing (PL) hasn't been ruled out (unless I missed the memo) The problem I see here is that if they announce/release PL, is it only going to be rocky worlds to start with as David Braben mentioned a few times, if that is the case ... How can you possibly charge people for an expansion so that they can land on lifeless moons ?

I am really worried about this announcement.

The game needs something .. I think that walking around would bring something new to the table, but landing on a rocky moon... meh!

And what if it is another tacked on mini (grind) game .. how well would that go down ?

If this is correct. Then i dont think they would charge for that yet.

If they try to charge money for that its game over.

That would be cool at least getting to take ship down to mine a planets surface from inside the ship. I dont see walking around yet.

you don´t know anything about statistics, don´t you?

next time an election poll projection is done, look at the sample pool size, then think again.

This poll is perfectly representative of the level of Powerplay fail, I´d say it has an accuracy of -2/+2 % max

There could be bases and minerals on the moons and lifeless planets. It'll be rolled out in phases. Combat near the surface will be fun too.

really?.....

a projection on such a small sample size... who you preaching nonsense to exactly...?

Vacuum worlds can be very interesting places with mining and industrial facilities...perhaps the occasional hidden pirate base. They are quite dangerous too...:)

Ummm. I've worked with a professional polling company who considered a survey of ~600 people from a city of ~300,000 was an adequate representative sample.
.
Features up for discussion in the DDF/Alpha only ever pulled a few hundred max - but probably were proportionally much more representative. :)
.
Anyway, Lies, damned lies and statistics... ;)

It's a big sample size. Roughly the square root of the whole population will do.

800 squared is 640,000.

Sales estimates for Elite are actually 700, 000.

It will be out by a statistical margin. But it is a sufficient sample size.

825 is probably the entire core fanbase but hey just ignore it, the other MILLION players in your imagination LOVE Powerplay.
Steam concurrent players: average 3000 btw., niche confirmed

.

that´s nothing for a game that´s almost a year old, sorry. World of Tanks has 70+ million players.
even in most optimistic case FD made 35 million with it, that pays for two years of an average sized team. I doubt there is any profit left for doing big expansions, unless Microsoft paid 10-20 millions for Xbone exclusive content which can later be patched in for PC.
