Arry came out to play yesterday.

Yesterday, I got my sidewinder back from the station I'd parked it at, ages ago and so took it out for a spin in open play. My base is Cuebo, HQ to the plastic princess and so I run a few little delivery missions to local systems to get a feel for the play etc. I am in solo 99% of the time and I have to say, that there IS a difference in open play. NPC, interaction is a lot greater for a start. In solo, I can cruise for up to 10 mins before an NPC tries to pull me out of super cruise, yet in open play, it happens all of the time. I am not complaining, just making an honest observation. In open, there does seem to be more going on. Saw a few commanders, all clean and all local factions. No interaction with real players at all, although I buzzed passed a few for fun. NPCs are more willing to attack or try to pull you out of SC. This could be because I was in a sidewinder, I am not sure. Had a few cobras, a Clipper, Diamondback and a Python try and fail, but as soon as any Eagles; no matter what rank, tried, I just had to submit and deal with them. Over the past few weeks, I am really getting to hate Eagles, but they seam easier to deal with in a sidewinder than my fully kitted Cobra. I have to say, I enjoyed myself and now my Sidey is parked at base, I will be coming out to play a lot more. One thing did confuse me a little. I saw a real player in an Asp and the scan said they were in a wing of 2, but could not find the second ship, no matter how close I got to the Asp. Any ideas at all on this?

The other in the wing might have been many systems away.

I'm glad you enjoyed your foray into Open - and, good idea to do it in the less expensively replaced Sidey.
I think we should all try doing things differently, sometimes.
(but some are more comfortable doing the same thing over and over - that's OK too)

Funny a 90k + sidey, but I get what you are saying, I am always hoping to meet a griefer and offer a little surprise for them.

To pull a fast one on griefers in a sidey, you would not be in a wing, but at the moment you were pulled from SC, you would wing up with your 3 friends in vultures, 2 would jump in, the third would wait for the high energy wake, then when the griefer soils himself and jumps, scan the wake and follow. The rest of the wolf pack would follow relentlessly without pause. Would be an unforgettable moment for the griefer (and the wolf pack).

Cool idea, but that would mean having friends, which for a cantankerous, argumentative and miserable old git like me, is not really an option. But I like the style though.

I'm betting that the cries for mercy from the griefer would put a smile on your face :D
(Had to look up cantankerous...)

Thank you, Arry.

So, there is a difference in NPC spawning in Open vs Solo. Interesting. This would account for the howling of the combat crowd, as SJA ascends the Sith ladder...

I resemble that remark. :)

I'll try again today, it could be because I am in a sidey, but I don't think so.

There certainly shouldn't be a difference between the number of NPCs in any of the modes, as essentially you are playing exactly the same game but with matchmaking preferences set differently. Wonder if a dev will drop in and be able to clarify...

As a side note, there is no reason (that I can think of) why NPC generation should be different from mode to mode, other than that in Open or Group you might be playing in an instance that has already been created by another live player, so effectively getting their spawn, and not one unique to yourself.

This is not really a bump, more of an up date. It is the gold the gets the attention in SC. Tested this and found, no gold on board, means less NPCs trying to pull me out of SC.

Saw a funny bug yesterday, Cuebo, Chelomey Orbital was showing up as a Fed station. That is the plastic princesses HQ?

Nanoman (Hudson) was the same for a good while as it's two Stations were Independent for quite some time.
It only got flipped back over the last few days after a Civil War and is now back as Federation.
It's probably system flippers so Empire folk just need to do a lot of BB missions for Empire minor factions and win the War when it happens.

No it was definitely a bug of some kind. It was just the one station and no civil war in the system.
