Astronomy / Space Our Moon has not been named!

I'm totally pulling this outa my you know what, but at a guess I'd say something to do with us having an atmosphere creating some sort of lensing effect?

I understand it now. It's because of the relevant Horizon Curve perspective. So they look about the same in relation from one to the other. Odd huh!

im sorry but you are quite wrong about that no one ever has named the moon.
the moon, the sun and the earth all have thousands of names, see western culture is not the only culture on this planet.
And this is precisely the reason why the IAU hasn't given an official name for any of those three.

I got the right to name it when I kickstarter backed the universe way back when.

My backer rewards included:

Naming a solar system.
Naming a planet.
Name any satellites of that planet.
Infinite number of lives on that planet.

I haven't yet submitted any final names. Why we call the sun, Sun, the moon, Moon and the earth Earth (and that's only because you called it after the ground before you realised it was round).

As for the infinite number of lives (limited to the duration of that planet) I'm starting to think I got screwed. My friend Flrshn says his planet's orbiting a stable red dwarf and he looks like he's in it for the long haul.

Honestly the better question is....

It's scary that they've already made land claims of areas of the moon (it'll still need naming won't it!) and soon will be needing to make land claims for Mars! I bet they're not really looking for life but valuable ores to mine and make claim to.

I would like to call the moon "Bob".

Any objections?

How about 'wibble'?

I think space agencies are missing a trick here. NASA is always worried about funding, so it's time to have sponsored heavenly bodies.

McDonald's Moon
Screwfix Sun or Sol
Coca Cola Earth (it's the real thing!)
