Hardware & Technical New Graphics Card/s - This Could Get Expensive

I currently run an EVGA GTX 780Ti Superclock graphics card and have had no problems with it. Great card. Runs E: D with maxed out settings at 1080p at a smooth 60fps with just a few drops around RES, CZ.

My problem is, I've just upgraded to a 4K monitor and now I find that the card won't run higher than 1440p at 60fps. If I knock it up to 2160p, the refresh rate maxes out at 30hz.

Is there any way to change this, or am I stuck with it? If I want the 60fps performance do I have to upgrade my graphics card, maybe even go to dual cards in SLI?

Thanks in advance.

Are you using V Sync? Try turning it off if so (or you could try Nvidia v-sync from the Nvidia control panel). And are you connecting via HDMI or Displayport 1.2 or 1.3?

I'll try turning V Sync off, see how that goes.

I'm connected via Displayport, not sure if it's 1.2 or 1.3?

Your 780 TI should certainly manage 4k and 60hz should also be no problem using DP 1.2.

I guess you won't get 60fps constant though if you max out every setting...When fps drops below 60 v sync can drop fps to 30. This could be what's happening, but if it's the monitor refresh rather than v sync scaling back fps then are you sure your monitor can support 60hz at 4k? Not all can (eg the dell P2815q)...

Yeah, the monitor does support 60hz over DP 1.2 (or so it claims! It's a Philips BDM4065). I've tried turning v-sync off which doesn't seem to have had an effect.

V-sync may well be scaling back fps as in RES, CZ etc at 1440p, the fps drops from 60 down to 30.

I do not normally promote any retail company but in this case i will.
Have a look at SCAN's website with a view to this little puppy, LN65153.
For the price and it being a 4gb card, two of these in SLI would be killer but i have just the 1 with a 2 monitor setup (29" LG ultrawide & 19" Widescreen info monitor) and its grabbing between 60 & 170+ FPS.

As for the setup you have, i think the others have it covered. I was just adding this as a possible option.

Thanks for the suggestion. If I have to I will go SLI/Crossfire, but I'm hoping there's a bit more life in the 780Ti yet. It was a bit pricey ;)

Just had a bit fiddle about in the settings and found the panel was set to DP 1.1 input. Changed it to 1.2 so we'll see how this works.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

edit: OK with DP 1.2 selected and V-Sync OFF, I get the full 60hz at 4k resolution. Nice. Bad news, I'm only getting 40-45 fps while parked in the docking bay. Haven't got time right now to check it out in space as I'm off to work.

I've had a brief spin around my local system. 60+fps in RES, dropping to 40s & 50s when in combat amongst the 'roids. Around 50fps inside the station, 60+ fps outside/approaching the system. All in all I'm a happy bunny. This game looks immense in 4k resolution!

I'd also use msi afterburner etc to check your vram usage, I play on triplescreen and can hit the vram limit and framerate takes a dive once you do.

As an aside, I remember in PB the GPU got a right old workout, with the fan running almost continuously. Admittedly, this was with all settings maxed out. With all the tweaking and streamlining that's been done since then, at 1080p the GPU hardly makes a murmur.

Now with everything set to max the fan is running all the time again. The price of 4k goodness, I suppose.
