Buying an Anaconda: Why ?

The only reason to buy a conda is because you want a defensible trade vessel. Other ships out perform it for combat.

That is debatable. Solo nothing compares however in wings the short comings of the FDL become much smaller as its strengths work out well in a wing.

How do you get 15-30mil per hour in a Conflict Zone? Don't you only get 100,000 for killing condas? In which case you need to kill 150-300 per hour, or 2.5-5 per minute!

Hey guys, Sorry for the dense (haven't been to bed yet). Do I still sell off the Clipper components before getting to a discount system ?

Drool factor is high......

4A shields and and some A0 boosters.

I can recommend that. And 448 ton cargo (or 452) no Shield cells. Was in 2 heavy conflict zones with this setup and survived.
You don't have one but comming from a Type 9 it made the difference to me between "havening no fun at all doing cargo mission" and "oh it's not that bad after all. "

I bought mine for trading, it's much better than the T9. But found it is quite fun taking it into combat too. Yes it can be a bit sluggish, but it depends on what you want to do. Currently I am out exploring, it also has a great jump range.

The 4A shield with 5 shield boosters is 654 MJ shield strength. And if you go 4 pips in SYS it's even stronger.

You can hover over the landing pad, point your nose straight down and hit boost and suffer no hull damage with those shields. Not sure where you got the idea landing the Anaconda was hard.

I crash mine every time I land. If my landing pad is in the back I'll blaze across the docking bay at 133, slam the hull down at the start of the landing pad and let it drag on the ground until it stops. Sometimes it stops when the nose bounces off those buildings in front. The Anaconda is not fragile like other ships, you can be really wreckless and usually get away with losing only one or two rings of shielding.

+1 rep just because I love your landing style.

I now have enough to buy a D spec Anaconda.

Currently I have:

  1. Fast Trade Clipper - ~3 mil/hr. Reasonably fun
  2. A Spec Vulture - ~4.5 mil/hr. Fun.
  3. Long Range ASP - Just for scooting around. If I make cr great, but certainly not required.

Every post I've read has the Anaconda slow on small fry, wicked to land, enormously pricey to outfit and maintain. The real effectiveness is anchoring a kill wing.

Am I missing something ? Kinda pricey to just "try". (Really could say the same for Python)

Is it just bragging rights ?

For me it's the ultimate ship, but these things are very subjective.

It is expensive but then that's part of its prestige.

For trading it can generate as much if not more than a T9 due to it's better range and agility.

For exploring it can out jump anything else and has plenty of compartments/ utility mounts for all the kit you could ever need.

For combat (PvE) it is a rampaging monster. Stack it with turrets and commit cosmic genocide!

All round - it can be fitted to do a top job at all of the above with marginal sacrifices. The only thing it can't do is land at outposts.

btw I'm not a 'Conda fan boy, my favourite ships are an Orca and FDL (I like flaws and quirkiness!).
But I do have a high spec'd Anaconda that I've at some point used in all the above roles. Fwiw I do think it's worth it's price tag and deserves it's place at the top of the food chain.

Its ugly
crappy sound
it feels like a cheap hauler
needs to be shiny, because I am happy
But that observation deck!!!!

Here is mine

pargyrak-anaconda

I keep it multirole configured with scanners and big shields (1123Mj should keep you away from harm)
but till need to grind for A7 Thrusters and an A8 Powerplant so I can have enough juice for better weapons.

Run into a problem the other day against another Anaconda while I had Beams all around. I got a lot of heat damage from 4*C2 2*C1 Turreted Beams without even firing the 2 C3 Gimballed beams.

So I switched to pulse and bursts (plus they are cheaper)

(slightly OT) but I think Frontier missed a trick by not having a shiny 'glass' walled control tower, so you can see your ship's reflection as you land.

I thought it'd just be cool as a way of watching my own landing technique and/or checking out any paint-job* I've applied. But imagine watching the reflection of your Conda approaching, bulldozing across the pad and slamming into the building - ideally with the ATC screaming "ChubbyBunneh just requested clearance! ChubbyBunneh Alert!!!!"

(* great incentive to buy paint-jobs Frontier!!)

Hey guys. I owe the group a quick recap, and RL keeps getting in the way.

Ran over to Li Young’s discount Shipyard (Crazy Li ….everything’s gotta go !) and picked up the 160 mil trader for an incredible 142 (thereabouts had to run around for some fittings) Going back for a pimp out refit soon.
Overspent. Should always be insurance + your most expensive load and somehow I brain derped and calculated the ½ load of the fast clipper instead of the 452. No worries just have to be careful on the Imp Slave leg of the trading route (8.3 mil ins. + 7.45 mil cargo) . Justified it by telling myself I would never get back to Li’s anytime soon, so look at the money I’ve saved! (930 k on the FSD alone).

Hah ! You guys thought this was going to be whiner post “aboot how I lost it all!! Sob… neva play agin !”

Nope. Just wanted to thank you guys for the solid advice.

Have played about 10 hours since then, recouped 32 million PLUS rebuying my Vulture.

Totally worth it.

Some new owner observations.
· Don’t Granny in the mail slot on exit! Hit it doing 50 min. Station twist will get you. I burned an insurance rebuy by trying to go to slow. (Ouch) Hard to remember if you’re on a crappy pad in the front of the station.
· Retract your Landing gear before mail slot. Line up with no inertia drift.
· At least for a bit, get used to the “frying bacon” in the mail slot. It gets much better after 20 + dockings and seriously, nobody is watching.
· With D7 Thrusters it handles about like a Type 6 full load. Inertia is there but seems to burn off quickly.
· I think, and I’m not sure but, seems the station masslock drops quicker. I had expected to add at least 3 minutes to each leg, is closer to 2 or less.
· Oddly the fuel cost seems to be about the same as the clipper. This additional cost is so small on my routes as to be inconsequential. (About 23 CR per run (+ 8.5 % per run))
· I did get the “Ship Integrity 99%” a 1% repair costs about 20k.

Interdictions are funny. They tell me how “Tasty my cargo is”, (I‘ve heard this before). Interdict. Tell me how “they want it all”, and I’ve already jumped out.
Oddly they never call the next day…….. Always the bridesmaid…..

Thanks again.

Glad you are enjoying it by the sound of it. I can attest that once you get into one its hard to get out of one.
