Wanted.... New Wanted System!

The simplest fix is to fire only when you are sure you won't hit anything but your target. I play almost exclusively as a bounty hunter and I've had 1 friendly fire fine in the last two months (and I only got that one because I had cannons instead of KWS selected on an assassination when i dragged him out of supercruise).

With police ships swarming around you don't need to mash the fire button for the kill, tag the target with a quick burst and you still get the bounty. Let the cops take and deliver fire it doesn't matter.

Calm down and pick your shots, a bounty hunter should have ice in his veins.

You accidentally shoot an innocent. Innocent then dies at a later time. Police want to 'talk' to you. Sounds reasonable to me ;)

We already have a threshold for FF. So long as you don't target and hit a friendly, you have some cushion. When you have 3 FF incidents in a week, a month even, your best course of action is to change how you do things. From what you say, we're not talking about exceeding the FF threshold, with those timer values you are FF killing, that needs to be addressed. By and large the FF mechanism is working well. In the end you are the only one responsible for where your fire lands. Concentrate on your trigger and not on changing the rules. You will be better for it in the end.

I dont think people

I dont think people are getting what I am saying.. Fine, friendly fire bounty I can put up with regardless of the situation, personally I think it should be a fine, but no problems, that dosent worry me so much.. But when you have had a FF incident, but later on that target is destroyed mostly by another NPC, I do not think a 5 day bounty should be placed on the player. It dosent seem logical to me, if that seems logical to others, then maybe its just me then.. lol Maybe put a 1 day bounty then. But if you were not responsible for the death of that NPC, I dont think you should be at fault, unless you have done significant amount of damage to that NPC.

I know exactly what you are saying. But, it is all down to your actions. If you don;t hit what you aren't aiming at, nothing bad will happen. I don't see a need for a rules change just to alter the outcome of an avoidable situation.

Or, alternatively, stay in the system and conduct your affairs as usual, then pay off the fine in a week?

Before the 1.3 changes, I was always quick to pay off my bounties in fear of the consequences. Since then, I haven't really noticed any.

Yep, this.

Obviously not dude, ;) cause as I have said a few times now. If it was due down to carelessness then no problems, I will wear it. BUT when you have a ship that just comes in from a 90 degree angle on full burn 30m directly in front of you while your firing, I dont care how good your reflexes are, your going to hit him, unless you are incredibly lucky. Maybe I just had a string of incredibly bad luck, who knows, but this wasn't a case of carelessness or inexperience.

As soon as you hit a friend target you have done something wrong. If you are lucky you are under the FF threshold, if you are unlucky you are above it. In the latter case the reasonable thing to do is an emergency jump to the next system. You are a wanted criminal and since you don't want to be that you should take cover. You will not get the additional bounty if you are in another system when your "victim" dies.

Yet there are CMDRs who play since December and only had 1-3 (to quote Bob Ross) "little accidents". And as said above you always have the chance to change systems before the NPC dies...

Yup, I know that. Tried to do it, but getting out of the res field in a slow anaconda so you can actually make the jump takes time, and before I could make the jump, boom went the npc.. lol

Well bad luck then. But in my opinion this is no reason to change a (mostly) working system and create more issues than it would solve. You know how FDEV tends to test new mechanics...

Didn't you see it coming on your scanner display, Pal? I know what you said. I've been there, and avoided that. What can I say. Don;t give up on yourself so easily. You can control your fire if you stay aware.

The largest ship in the game may not be the best choice for bounty hunting in an asteroid field.
