What's the method for jumping in to low energy wakes?

Why cant they be treated like a destination so they can be SC'ed I to? I spend too long trying to get the in to the blue that I miss everything.

What's the catch?

Go slow, there is literally no other way, the normal "blue" area doesn't really help much for wakes. Just have to chug along and hope by the time you get there it's not disappeared.

Set zero throttle when you get close and drift in as slowly as you can (for supercruise), keep trying if you fail. You have to be really quick on the button.

(ninja'd by tetra have rep, you have to be quicker on the button than I just was)

I wonder if this is bugged or something. Not sure why they have the blue banding if the normal middle throttle thing doesn't apply. Would be great to be able to get in to these drop zones quicker.

I believe what tetra was referring to is the left hand panel that appears and shows you the distance to the wake and the blue area that shows you are safe to drop - not the blue area on your speed indicator.

One question to this subject i have regarding when you are winged up with a friend:

When one of us are interdicting a target in SC, you fall into normal space...and what happens to your wing - mate ??

Does he just see this energy wake and have to be as careful to enter it like everyone else ??? Or is it easier for him because he is winged up ?

I am asking because we had really trouble when presenting this game to a friend of mine when he just started the game, and i wanted to help him gaining some money with defeating together assasination targets he would never could flying alone ! he was not able to get into my dropzone...and when we switched the roles and he intercepted, same goes for me...i also couldnt enter his dropzone

You need to have your wing beacons turned on. If you or your friends drops into normal space, the other CMDR can lock onto the wing beacon and fly as fast as he can at you in supercruise.
When you get close you will automatically drop into normal space and join your friend.

Sometimes i can do onto a wake easily but sometimes the distance doesn't work. I think the distance/speed readout works if you were targeted on the ship before it turned into a wake but not if you select it from the contacts list. Needs testing.

I understand how it works - but don't think I made my self clear. I guess I'm asking why they simply dont make the approach the same as approaching a station drop. I.e leaving your throttle in the middle of the blue will bring you in at a sensible speed to easily drop and not overrun. That rule doesn't apply to LEW's which is really annoying because when I'm on the lookout for pirates interdicting transporters and want to quickly jump in and help, I can't because I spend 5 mins faffing around trying to get the distance right. Sometimes you get lucky and get in quick but most of the time you are just bouncing either side or waiting too long to arrive.

It's really very broken and I'd love to see it fixed.
