Eventually Frontier is going to tell us this is the end of the line for new expansions and features. Many of us will not be pleased to see that day. What would you guys think if Frontier gave us the opportunity to crowdfund continued development when that day comes instead of them just shelving ED entirely, similar but not parallel to what Star Citizen is doing by selling ships.

Different rewards would be needed, of course. Buying ships in ED means nothing (well, it means nothing in SC too but lets not get into that...) but looking beyond that I think it'd be neat for Frontier to set hard goals with reasonable times for delivery for funding things like adding more content, more ships, or upgrading the game in a big way. Once those goals are met, the feature immediately goes into production. As examples:
They produce some concept art for a new ship and put it up, then say it'll cost $65,000 to make the new ship and put it in game. Players donate $65,000 and a couple months later ED has a new ship. No stretch goals, no funny math of we're asking for 65 but really need 90, just we need 65k, when we have 65k, donations stop and we get to work.
ED's getting old, it'd be nice to bring it's visual quality up to date $150,000 will give us the dev time to put some polish on everything, add details where details are needed, etc... If funding for this project happens quickly enough we'll throw up another project for converting the game over to DX12 in the process and adding those features, etc...
You people haven't shut up about the bobble heads for 4 years, and we're still not giving them back, however for $35,000 we'll make a Thargoid plushy that flies around unrestrained in the cockpit, with full physics effects. Take it or leave it.
etc... FD have the reins right now and they're working hard to develop the game they set out to and that's all well and good, but when they say they've done what they set out to I think this would be a great way for the community to shape the game into what they want, and get many more years of satisfaction out of it.

What say you?
Edit: Are polls broken/disabled or did my dunce cap fall down over my eyes? I can't find the option anywhere?
