I believe the data on the Asp Explorer is incorrect

After mainly cruising around in my Cobra for a couple of weeks, I decided to finally give my new Asp a run. I actually purchased it a while back but never took it out of the hangar. I finally take off to here the most interesting sound.

There must have been some mistake. I'm pretty sure the brochure said this thing had thrusters. Sounds like a turboprop to me.

I'm really not sure if I'll get used to that sound. :(

However, after making some minor upgrades, I finally started a couple of trade runs. The first time I've really done legitimate trading with a decent (compared to Cobra) cargo capacity.

That didn't last long though as I was soon taken out by a pirate. Lost all the profits I had made tonight and then some. Awesome.

Little known fact - from the perspective of the pilot all spaceships in Elite: Dangerous are actually more or less silent due to very advanced noise reduction systems, but this was found so disconcerting that engine and machinery noise was artificially added through the same cockpit audio systems that convert sensor data into synthesised sounds (this is why you can hear other ships even in a vacuum). Unfortunately due to a manufacturing mishap the Asp's synthetic engine sound file was overwritten by that of a Sopwith Camel. Rectifying this flaw proved so expensive that Lakon Spaceways would have been bankrupted if they had trying to fix every Asp in existence.

Am I odd in that I'd pay to have my other ships sound more like my Asp?

Yes... Yes, you are.

Just watch this instead. I believe it's secret footage taken of Asp surface maneuvers.

i love the way the Asp sounds
even more than the Cobra, which is basically a Mustang in space.
sound design remains the absolute best thing about Elite so far
(and despite my constant, infantile whining about the farce that is Powerplay, I'm generally very impressed with the game)
It really is the bees knees.

I reckon that's fake - that livery isn't available anywhere in the store and we haven't seen any official screenshots or footage of planetary landings yet. Still, whoever made it deserves a pat on the back for absolutely nailing the engine noise.

Totally legit.

Still, whatever the Asp sounds like, at least it doesn't have the Event Horizon Jr ambience of the Hauler. Nothing better than sitting in your dinky little Hauler wondering why every sound it makes is like the howls and moans of the souls of the damned.

Next to that I'm quite happy with my WW1 era radial engine... though if there was a means of modifying or switching the engine noises, I probably wouldn't mind that too much.
