The netcode ruined my gaming day :-(

I am not somebody to rant and I am really happy with the game, but yesterday it just sucked.

Out of two hours gaming time I was able to play for a little over an hour. The rest of the time I spent reloading the game and reconnecting.

For starters:

First loaded the game, while the ship was spinning I got the message "could not connect to transaction server".

Second time "unable to retrieve commander data"

Finally got to play a little. Did some CZ fighting. Went back to station to change ships and cash in "could not connect to transaction server".

Back in game I changed ships, jumped into my 452 m/s light smuggling cobra. Accepted a smuggling mission. Jumped into the target system. Traveled 11,000 ls to target station, shortly before I arrived "could not connect to matchmaking server". Had to travel 11,000 ls again. Wanted to complete the mission "could not connect to authentication server". Game crashed on me. Gave up. Failed the mission due to time out.

This is why I hate internet only games, this is why I also wanted offline (even though I played in open I still want offline).

And no, it is not my connection. I can stream tv shows in HD quality just fine. Same with every other internet activity.

Just needed to vent.

Yes as of late the servers have been having more problems than normal, the P2P is the biggest part of the problem in as far as sync up with the wings etc...
it is unfortunate but FD cannot or will not not do anything about it :(

The 'transaction server' isn't the P2P side of things.

The server was down for a short time yesterday for an update. What time were you having issues?

1. A server was down for a short time yesterday but not for long
2. Between you and the FD servers there are a lot of things that could go wrong
3. If the servers were the problem do you not think the forums would be full of threads like your's?

Seems like your problem was not constant as to accept a mission you talk to the very same server that later you could not connect to. Sounds like a port problem somewhere between you and the FD servers but NOT the games netcode.

If it is some kind of port problem why did it work all the times before then?

I normally don't have these issues. It was and hopefully stays a one time thing.

My internet connection is a bit flakey but I can watch HD streams with seldom any problems but frontier does give transaction errors and matchmaking problems quite often.

At a guess I'd say the re-negotiating code for when the connection is interrupted and needs to be quickly restarted is badly written and fails too often.

I'd expect to see far more errors from players if this was the case and it would not be a one of thing either. I've had this issue once but never again since hence it is probably not a software issue.

I was on for over three hours last night without a single network error or access problem. My Internet connection is miserable and I had zero problems.

If you are having network issues then you should look at your firewall. Have you set E: D to be recognized by your firewall as a safe program, or given it permission to freely access the Internet? E: D servers need access to your PC as well.

Were you downloading Windows patches, running torrents or large file transfers while playing? If there's no bandwidth available what you describe will happen.

Have you turned off all unneeded programs and services through MSCONFIG?

Have you scanned your PC for malware / viruses recently? When your PC starts acting strangely, you can bet the majority of time it is one of the above.

A guy at work gave his kids a brand new PC and three days later brought it to me as it was unable to boot. I found 1200+ pieces of malware on there. Do your kids use your PC?

E: D is only one factor that influences your PC's performance. Don't lay blame there until you have eliminated all other causes. Since February (not counting downtime for server upgrades / maintenance) I have only had eight - nine network dropouts or issues. Sterling performance on Frontiers part actually.
