What is required for fuel transfer?

Good morning folks,

After some frustrating experiences which involved multiple destructions of my ship (clipper) and therefore losing all my money (approx. 6 million) I got stuck without fuel in a system without a huge landing pad station. I then quit the game for a few weeks.

Now I thought that there must be a way back without self destruction and starting with a sidewinder again because that is no option for me. I already had to sell ship components to get my clipper back the last time and I don't think this will work again.

I know there is the possibility to transfer fuel between ships now, but what does it require? Does my ship need the fuel scoop or something else I don't have on my ship anymore?

Contact the Fuel Rats - search the forum, they're everywhere.
I also have a question for said rats: My Diamondback Explorer has no cargo space.
(I repeat: NO CARGO SPACE! No cargo racks whatsoever. No room for any.)
How does the fuel transfer work? I presume you drop a fuel canister/limpet and I scoop it up, but with no cargo space, will I be able to scoop it (should the need arise)?

Call the fuel rats, follow their instructions.

Fuel rats use "Fuel Transfer Limpet controllers" with a few limpet munitions on their ships. They approach your ship, fire the limpets carrying 1 ton of fuel at your ship, the limpets dock with your ship's cargo hatch automatically transferring the fuel.

From the Rescuee's perspective you don't need anything. For a Rat to refuel you, he'll need a 1D fuel transfer controller, a C3 cargo rack filled with 8 limpets bought from the ammunition console, be 700m or less from his target in conventional space and fire the limpet. The rest is automated. You might want a fuel scoop yourself so as not to ask for help on your way to help someone.
Head over to fuelrats.org and tell us everything (starting with your relationship with your mother) like your current system, if you're on PC or xbox, an easily named system nearby...

EDIT : added you as friend ingame to help with rescue.

Koban, the fuel transferer limpet controller is needed on a ship that wants to rescue other pilots - you need a fuel scoop yourself if you want to avoid running out of fuel, and you still need to plot routes via scoopable stars (class O, B, A, F, G, K and M).

If you need assistance, you only need to ask for it at the Fuel Rats :) Don't log on until it's required, as you will burn fuel while logged on.

If you're needing rescue, not having cargo space doesn't matter - the rescuer fires a fuel limpet at you and it automatically attaches to your ship, puts some fuel in your tank then drops off. You don't need to scoop manually at all.

Thanks +rep

Edit: It seems I can't rep you as I first need to "spread the love".

Thanks to you all,
I read about the fuel rats when searching the forum for my problem but wasn't sure about the equipment I might need.
I ended up in that system because it has a similar name as another system which I have already been to and know it has a huge station. The one I am in now does not :(

@Kerenn
Shall I still go to the fuel rats page or are you my saviour now? I am currently at work and might log in in a few hours. I think the system name was HR 6669

How do you guys get paid for your service btw?

Its a volunteer service, if you want to drop cargo and your rat wants to scoop it then fine, but start with a simple thank you and go from there :)

Feel free to come onto the fuel rats page whenever you want - there's a chat client built in. It'll depend on who's online and close to you to rescue you. I'll check out the system!

As for getting paid... well, that's more of a roleplay thing. Most of the time, rescuees can't actually pay anything, which is fine :) If you feel like dropping some cargo, I'm sure it'd be appreciated.

We don't, personally speaking I don't expect payment and I would refuse it. If the Client was insistent on payment I would simply ask that they post something in /r/FuelRats instead.

I want to thank the Fuel Rats for their service and espacially Watar for the rescue from my misery.
A job well done and in a really fast way. Took only minutes until I was able to get back into the game.

Hope it's the right size for you, commander :)
