Bang, Bang the ship is dead! Crazy ways of loosing your ride.

Welcome CMDR's

Recently I have seen a lot of threads from people who have lost their ship. Now I'm not going to pass judgement on any of those nor is that what this thread is about.

All of us have/will lose our ships at some point so this got me to wondering what are the funniest ways you have either lost your's or that you could imagine?

How did/would you respond?

Would/did you consider trying to get some help from support?

So time to admit your worst mistakes/nightmares folks!

First time out exploring. I'd only gone a mere 500LY from my home system, discovered a couple of new systems which I was pleased with and had lots of data to sell. On the return journey everything was going great, I made it back inside the bubble and considered just docking and selling up but as I was still some way off from Bhotho I pressed on.

The wife had been watching what was going on, she plays a lot of MMO's and had just finished a long raid. I came out of hyper cruise next to the home systems star ready for the short hop to the station. The interdiction alarm was loud and un-welcome but it was only on for a few seconds as the elite cobra pirate ripped me back to normal space.

Reaching for the fire trigger to bring out the guns was a valiant if futile thing to do as I was dead before my finger closed on the trigger. I sat there jaw on the floor and a numbness starting to develop in my left arm before the wife bought me back to the ground.

'Just like the raid I was on, you wiped, never mind!' Were her exact words. And she was right, I'd played many raids and got no-where, it's part of the game, you just move on. I had for an instant though about raising a ticket to see if I could get a bit of sympathy but the wife's comment made me realise that getting back to where I was would be more fun.

One time during Beta I was in a RES. I was new to the game, wasn't really good at flying and fighting. My shields were down, and I was attempting to evade the enemy's fire by going through the asteroid ring.
As I was boosting and steering like a maniac, I was paying more attention to the distance of my opponent than the asteroids themselves.

When I was far enough and my shields were almost back up, I boosted and pulled up at the same time. Cool maneuver right ?
I pulled up right into an asteroid, at full speed, with no shields.

I had a good laugh after that :). I'll remember that for a long time.

Regarding the "losing your ship" part of your post :

Unless I'm coming back from a party completely drunk, and manage to turn on the computer, launch the game, undock, and crash my ship 4 times, I don't think I'll ever lose a ship completely. If I do, for some reason, it will be entirely my fault, and I'll accept it.

I'll never raise a ticket for anything other than a bug.

I agree with OP. Would anyone raise a ticket in real if a car knocked him down if he crossed the road without looking right and left? Of course not, it was your fault and you deserved to be knocked out. The same in a game whose name tells you everything right from the beginning.

Another thing is if one were killed due to a game bug but it has all to be proven!

So, what I want to say to all childs, grown up or not, playing this game:

If you were killed by a PK while wandering in space hunting butterflies and had no insurance, please take your own responsibilities and stop opening ticket to say that an evilevil griefer took you down or that your ship smashed onto a rock while you where eating cookies in front of the TV and want a brand new ship even bigger to compensate sentimental loss.

Do agree.

Once flew an un-shielded T-7 full of P̶e̶n̶i̶s Performance Enhancers into an active CZ, as the "Seeking Luxuries" T-9s were still there. Unsurprisingly, my ship got hit by stray fire and destroyed in fairly short order.

Did not even consider raising a ticket. That kind of stupid deserves punishment.

Broadsided my Clipper on an Asteroid trying to boost-pitch around an Anaconda. I didn't even know what happened at first, it just showed a 3rd person perspective of something blowing up on an asteroid, took me too many seconds to realize it was me. That was the last time I flew a Clipper into a RES looking for trouble. If I ever do that with my Anaconda, I will cry ༼ つ ಥ_ಥ ༽つ

The only one I even considered raising a ticket for, was when I logged out in a RES that was completely dead. I logged back in and ended up inside a rock, instant destruction. But lesson learned, don't log out with dangerous stuff around.

I started playing the game again after a couple of months. I was at the end of a Rare Goods run with my Hauler full of Eranin Pearl Whisky arriving into Lave when I get interdicted by another CMDR. "Submit to cargo scan" or something to that effect was said. Yes, the right way to go about that would have been to play it cool and try to make the most out of a bad situation. I panicked and escaped. Got interdicted again, and the same demands were made. At that point, I found the verbiage quite irritating ("who does this schmuck think he is? giving ME orders and "), so I faced him and deployed my 2 hardpoints, knowing full well I would die. 'Twas stupid alright, but I went down with a bang dammit!

Coming back after months of burnout, thinking it still possible to safely park by dropping to normal speed when kids scream or door needs answer. Just to come back and see some nice NPC had dropped out on top of you and killed you while you where afk.

I was trading in a lightly shielded Asp when I decided to beeline an orbis station entrance through the wheel without caring for the spikes... which literally turned out to be a crushing experience.
