Great Great Maker

Hi Guys for the past couple of nights have been tentatively visiting the nav beacons, trying to develop some semblance of combat skills :)
still a bit shaky, but all hell broke loose there were beams of light everywhere, ships exploding, everywhere you looked auth ships were battling it out,
I had to get into this, I'm flying an asp :) (don't laugh) my main thing is trading, anyway getting back to the experience, targeted a few ships and was doing ok, bounty's were flashing up, but I couldn't take my eyes of the chaos.
This went of for about 5 seconds or so it seemed it was close to 30mins though, I had to boost away once to replenish my shields but was back in the fray.
Couldn't take the tension, had to SC to the nearest station.
184,340 yip one hundred and eighty four thousand three hundred and forty cr was waiting for me,
bloody fantastic, I'm hooked (I just love this game) until someone fries my ass that is :(
Well had to tell someone :)

I love bounty hunting too.

I also recommend hunting pirates in RES sites. It is great to fly and fight between those asteroids. Some rings are truly stunning.
Never go in at night though. Truly dark rings are quite dangerous to do combat in.

Hi Iskariot, nav beacons for me are enough, at the mo at least, however I have watched u-tube RES battles they look stunning, I have enough for a Vulture, but without the skills :(
so my plan, get a bit better, then I hope I don't embarrass myself when I'm in a Vulture...
The nav beacon was a bit slow, then bam all hell broke loose.... :)

The vulture will make it easier, the ship pretty much kills the target for you. If you can bounty hunt in the Asp even decently, sluggish as it is, you'll do so much better in a vulture.

Why laugh? It's a great ship!
.
You're not alone on this. The first time I tried some combat .. oh boy.. I felt the adrenaline pumping.
For me, the real deal started in combat zones, winged with a friend in a Clipper. That was intense!!
.
At that time, the ship I flew was also an Asp.
Had that ship for months.
Used it for trading, mining and, as I said, combat zones.
Still loving it.
.
Once I got the money, I used a T7 as a means to a fresh new Python.
That's also a great ship, but I'll know for sure, once I've got more cash to spare, another Asp is definately going to be parked in my garage and ready for exploration and who knows what.

I hope somebody frying your ass will trigger you to be even more devoted to the game because encountering human trigger happy pirates and taking revenge on them is one hell of a thrill.
This game is exciting, it's dangerous, it's ... unforgiving... but with the right state of mind, this is EXACTLY how it should be.
Have fun!

Don't worry, there are plenty of people in Pythons and Anacondas that "embarrass themselves" :p We all start somewhere and the Asp is a great all rounder.
If you have a friend in game try out wing mechanics, much safer if you trust them. If not requesting a friend in the forums is always a 50/50 between someone helpful and someone that will kill you if you fancy the risk of an insurance re-buy :p

Feel free to go to a Viper or Courier if you have spare credits, a fully A grade Viper comes to 3.8mil with a 200k rebuy, both 15% less if you get it at discount. That means you can fly care-free and still pack a good combat punch against most ships. That asteroid splat becomes less costly

Thanx for that Abomination, for the past 5 wks ish, have been trading, total assets close to 30mil, just been promoted to Novice, it's better than most harmless :), and looking with eagerness at a vulture, store my asp ( it growing on me ), and out with the vulture, best of both worlds :) .... I was looking at the lakon 7 is this what you have, and how do you find it, I loved my Lakon 6, the noise was fantastic, the cockpit was magic :), but boy do you get chased. I moved to ASP but ?
anyhoo many thanx...

To be honest, the type 7 is a f-ing ugly beast of a ship :)
It hauls a lot of cargo and that's the only thing it's good for.
Make sure to equip chaffs.
Never ever try to fight with that ship unless you've upgraded the shields to A grade AND a class higher than the default.
This will still allow you to haul 200T cargo, so it can make a good deal of profit on every run.
From what I've tried, getting turreted beam lasers top/bottom and two frontal gimbaled beam lasers will allow you to kill some npc's, but anything beyond a Viper will be too much to handle and running is your only choice.
.
As for the Asp, try to mix your weapon setup.
The setup that worked for me was one class 2 burst laser with two class 1 burst lasers and one class 2 fragment cannon with two class 1 normal cannons.
This way, you have both types of damage, lasers against shields and cannons against armor, one weapon for big ships and a mix of them for all ships and still have a decent trade-off between heat and energy reserves.
Try everything gimballed or, if you think your aiming is good enough, get either the three lasers or the three cannons as fixed for a little bit more damage and the other as gimballed so you can fire and hit with both at the same time while only needing to aim one of the two groups.

This is quality info, Lakon 7 ?....... 200t wow, can it run away ?, or does it take a beating, with the 6, it's almost all you can do is run :).... I got a bit fedup with running, ASP it has teeth and still haul 88t, I have 2 beams, and 4 multi cannons :), I do manage power well, and going to verbal commands, so it might be a bit better.
Thanx for the heads up re: 7... 200t I mean it cant be dismissed, this would more than double my cash per run.......... :)

T7 is like an exaggerated T6. Its bigger, its slower but it carries more. Its not very sturdy but is cheap to repair and has a good jump range. Going up against NPC's with a decent shield you can take on Cobras/Eagles etc but anything Vulture and up you will be running.
A good alternative to the T7 is the Clipper which is more manoeuvrable, much faster and packs a combat punch. Remember though that neither can land at outposts. Although Clipper is more expensive to buy and repair and requires an Empire ranking.

A few stats:
Clipper max cargo is 248T with a jump range of approx 16.7Ly and a cost around 30mil.
Add in shields and weapons and you get 232T with 15.5Ly loaded for roughly 45mil.
It's also one of the fastest ships in the game so with chaff it's very rare to be pirated or killed as long as you boost boost boost away from any interdictions.

My personal advice is to go in the middle and get one with a 4A shield but no weapons and do some trading first to get some cash. Throw in 2 chaff and 2 shield boosters and you should be set for some combat, if you feel the shield is too weak you can always raise it to a higher one. Remember if you buy at the right place you can get a 15% discount :)

I started with a trading Clipper after flying the T7 for an hour and hating it, within a week or two that Clipper became an A grade bounty hunter taking down Anacondas, Pythons and more, if done right it is a very capable ship, as above it can run from just about anything with ease. Just watch out for the increased insurance costs :p

I took a newbie to a nav beacon to introduce him to combat. Things got out of hand very quickly.

I can easily believe that, to be suddenly thrown into a situation that you believe your not ready for, I'm telling you, when I docked at station I was shaking... :) love it!

Hi Alex, I have had a look at the clipper, and she is one good looker, how do I get this empire ranking ?.... you think you haven't much options, where do I go from an ASP sort of thing, T7, Clipper, possibilities open up from Forums and good people, many thanx, the rank thing seems to be a bit daunting though.
trader at heart, thinking about having a break from trading, and learning some combat.......... I think :)

To get Empire ranks you need to be in Empire space. Simply do missions for factions with the Empire symbol shown below.

The best way to imagine your overall ranking is that the Empire is built of a main guy and tons of other smaller guys. If enough of the smaller guys recommend you to the main on he will increase your rank. So once one of the factions are allied move on to a new area to get the next small guy to recommend you.

From the Asp you can go almost anywhere, Clipper, T7, Vulture. Some people even go on a 2 month exploration trip and go straight to a Python! Its up to you really :)

I can do that I think, thanx for the help, I hope I never meet you in the dark with those ratings :)

Oops, looking back I forgot a critical part (I was early) when you get enough minor empire factions allied a mission will pop up that will say something like "Naval Ascension Opportunity" and they are the missions to get a rank increase, however, to get them to appear you have to increase your reputation as I said above. (sorry) :)

That was just a screenshot (F10 by default on pc). For my signature I just typed it with a different text colour, there should be a settings link top right on the forums. Good luck :)
