Yup, the only difficulty with repeating it in Morse, is how you represent it. Hyphens or underscores for inter-character spaces? And how do you represent word-breaks? I like the idea of the "English" name simply because it shows some understanding on our part, rather than just repeating the Morse signal back, but at this stage all tests are good, up to and including poking it with a stick.

So far each of the Google links I've clicked for morse translation use the . - / configuration, although some don't use the /

So, we now established that the UA emits a combination of sounds that are also emitted by mundane things such as nav beacons and outposts. So much for trying to decode the message of the UA. We'll end up deciphering rather uninteresting messages if any.

As far as I can tell any CIVILIAN outpost will do it doesnt matter if unsanctioned or not. I can confirm that unsactioned civilian outpost make the sound as I am at one at the moment and hearing it. Going to find another civilian type to confirm for those too.
(I remember being at differnt ones yesterday and hearing the sound at every civilian one, sadly I forgot to write them down so I cant be a 100% sure)

edit: could someone tell me if there is a way to tell what kind an outpost is without flying to it? That would speed things up because at the moment I just fly around to every system that has an outpost and then to the outpost to see if it is civilian.

Just arrived at the nearest outpost available to me to check this interesting lead out. Of course, I wound up at a Commercial Outpost, in an undockable Anaconda, so naturally things were going to go wrong for me and am now impaled on the pylon!

Whew! Turns out it's just a graphical 'impalation' and I'm fine.

Okay, riddle me this.

Based on what we can observe:

1) The artefact decays in space rapidly.

2) The artefact can only be found by navy convoys carrying it.

3) No ship in the game can carry it without their systems failing.

So, where is the navy finding the artefacts? It can't be in open space, since it decays too rapidly. It must originally have been "on-board" something else. And not a normal ship. Not even a Capital Ship could carry it if that's indeed what brought down Halsey's ship.

Alien ships, perhaps? Federal navy shoots down a Thargoid, and out pops one of these things.

And then there is Kerrash's June 27 joke that a human-Thargoid war might start if somebody stumbled on a Thargoid and "You do a cargo scan and [inaudible] they're full of unknown artefacts" and so the human pilot shoots and suddenly we're at war with Thargoids at about 12:20 of this video clip:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RD6rmO_28s

So maybe it's an alien version of a cargo container?

Maybe we should underclock our CPUs by 150% and follow the wakes of the convoy back into the past.

I have the very strong feeling things will be getting rather interesting once someone drops a UA next to the things that emit the sound on the outposts.

Just a selfie.

I know lots of have seen this sort of thing before but I'm in an Asp now, can get really close.

It really is human size, the head's small enough you could give it a hug! (while it gave you the plague/irradiates you)

uc
I am experimenting with try to trigger some sort of cascade failure when jumping, doesn;t seem to be working. =(

FSD just goes offline stopping the jump.

uc
If there is a misjump mechanism I think anyone could try to trigger it, just get some toxic canisters.

Dont endanger your ship and yourself to test a madmans theory!
Fly safe!
But most important I found a way to tell what kind an outpost is a little quicker.
If you fly to a system with an outpost drop out of supercruise at the sun and lock the outpost via the nav panel. it will show you what kind it is so you dont have to fly there

In game now, Möbius, Timocani, bored to tears, happy to change scenery and listen to spooky sounds. Do you mean the pirate ones or can someone point me to how you can tell the outpost type from the system map?

Edit: don't worry Pennington is a civ outpost. I'll grab a recording and stick it up on the tubes.

I've moved from Timocani to G 203-47 a few days ago to try a change of scenery, lots of convoys here (50% of SSS) but no UA yet, don't know how much more I can take! Started jumping to nearby anarchy systems to rob a few convoys, it helps a bit!
here's a couple of pics of me stalking a Antiques Convoy, also done out of boredom :)

*Side-Topic Bump*

Tickets still available! Get 'em while they're hot!

Operation: Biscuit Barrel
Sunday 9th August - 1700hrs BST - Mobius - Timocani - 4+hrs

Volunteers required. Please pencil yourself in by replying in this thread. Would open another thread for it but figured it more betterer here since others already pencilled in have seen it here. Easier to keep an eye on.

For more information, please see the bottom of this page:

A suggested outline of cooperation mechanics shall be drafted and put up for perusal by a bunch of mad scientists soon. (What can go wrong?) :)

What's the aim of the event?

For finding a UA to do some destructive testing with or just a general get together?

I am happy to contribute time to a group event to find one for destroying if that's the purpose, I think that's the only realistic way it's going to happen.

Not sure what the top contender is right now? Let it decay to see the animation is it?

I may be late to the party but the latest newsletter mentions Wednesday as the date for the next huge announcement. Also they referenced a trailer will come out as well... guess wednesday will be an interesting day for clue hunters.

The quest is sane, FD set us a puzzle that we have yet to solve.

However if we are no longer sane it's because the puzzle is insane...........I still thinks its going to play a rock roll at some point.

And if it is Chuck Berry our Voyager theory will be vindicated. I'm out of ideas at the moment, and still getting caught up from two days away from the insanity, but I like the idea several folks have mentioned of trying to play the same Morse back to it through the local comms. Should be an easy one to cross off the list anyways.

Still purely to compound manhours in the acquisition of a UA to then - per an exact decision, voted for, closer to the time - eliminate a sensibly planned destruction/sale/loss use of it. Don't figure getting together should hurt much, though. ;)

I had an idéa a few days ago that the convoy with the UA was salvaging the Star Ship One, however I didn't know that they already spawned before SS1 disapeared. If I change that to, what if they found an "alien" spaceship that they are salvaging, and SS1 took aboard an UA before disapearing. What my conclusion was last time was that we should perhaps find the place where they found the UA, and perhaps the UA is not the big thing here?

Anyhow, I'm as mad as anyone else, so perhaps it's just the diary of a madman that I'm quoting... I do not know... anymore...

edit 2: found a normal civilian outpost. It makes the sound too: Miller Dock in Blido Piru

So I dun a video https://youtu.be/LzuYGO-5prE is this the soundscape you mean? It sounds spooky enough, but its not a UA sound IMHO.

In other news, just met up with Bitstorm to check my amazing, flawless theory of genius. Nothing happened. Will update the wiki, with video evidence of nothing happening.

Oh, and Ill try to be there Sunday, but I'm at a mates until not sure when.

yes thats what I mean and yes it is not the UA sound but I think it is similiar enough to warrant a try and bring an UA to it to see if it triggers something.

Someone wanted a screenshot of the texture of the "Mayan symbols" a while back.

Had a look I don't think there is a texture as such.

I think this is the best were going to get.. It's cropped and still 20MB btw if you download, so not inlining.

I'm currently running at stupid resolution, game slows sometimes but it means I can get 10860 x 6108 resolution screenshots. =p
