Elite Dangerous : Star Wars

With all the anticipation for a 'Colossal' announcement next week , and everybody pretty convinced it's PL's , ive seen a few arguments suggesting it's 'not a big enough' announcement for gamers not already playing. PL's would maybe not be big enough to lure more to the game are aren't already on board.

And this weird thought popped into my head.......ED:Star Wars

The timing would fit with this years film
It would certainly be big enough to grab some big headlines
There is no 'space play' in the new Battlefront game ( maybe that licence was already 'taken' ;-) )

hmmmmmm......

Eh I think that would be like if you invented Facebook, and called up the people who created LinkedIn and said "Hey, let's smash our two functionally different albeit somewhat distantly related products together". If Frontier was going to do any promotional thing with Star Wars then it would be on such a small scale that it wouldn't be fit for a GamesCom announcement.

Anyways, what are PLs?
Edit: Oh :) Planetary Landings.

Ha ha... Elite: Disney, someone is going to say something rude about that.

Unlikely in my opinion!

it would be extremely wise to make a serious move towards planetary landings in the current climate.

You've got CQC coming out and grabbed some xbox players, pushed your luck and got a messy powerplay system that has some potential.

Now is the time to start filling this mile wide pool a bit deeper.

I still wanna be able to go out back in my ship and actually SEE my cargo hold full of slaves, piles of gold, leaking toxic waste and so on.

Edit: I don't think the OP meant a collaboration between star wars and ED, simply that PL in ED would give a lot of star wars fans their much needed fix for "A Galaxy, far, far away..."

You have to remember that whatever they are showing would have been planned a long time ago. They don't just wake up a few weeks before Gamescom and decide what a cool thing to show would be and have a few developers knock something up. Even the most over ambitious smoke and mirrors demo needs some planning.

I can't see Frontier diverting most of the team to work on a different franchise even if it has a tenuous connection to Elite.

Planetary landings do have to make an appearance at some point, it was outlined as a planned 'expansion' in last years newsletter and many of us already have expansion passes. It's also part of the business plan going forward.

Just a little off topic...

Last night when i got home, I loaded up the game and got the ship out of the hanger ready to fly. At this point I hit the 'play' button on the keyboard and prepare to listen to what ever bit of classical music gets selected... The fan fare started just as the engines engaged... Leaving a star base to the theme from star wars was just epic!

Not afraid to say it, there was a man tear in the corner of my eye!

With the QCQ being a 'seperate beast' to the main game, is a themed addon pack really that much of a stretch of the imagination ? It could even be a cut down area of the galaxy......sort of suits FD's current trend of bolting on separate modules.

It was just a random idea, and a 'few planets aligned' in my head as I thought it through........and then I saw squadrons of x-wings chasing down Tie fighters in 'my game' and got a little over excited ;-)

Please, quit psychtropic substances.

Lets just consider the timing at the very least... ED is set in 3301, Star Wars us set 'a time ago'. ED is based in the Milky Way, Star Wars is in a 'galaxy far far away'.

FD have no need for rubbish tie-ins.

End of line.

This looks pretty colossal

Those pizza boxes sure do stack up

No one should be underestimated though

Regardless, I'm still very much looking forward to December and the new movie. I also wouldnt mind seeing a new, and up to date xwing/tie fighter game in 4k goodness.
