New laptop suggestions?

Hello all. I am in the market for a new laptop and wanted to cast my net out there for suggestions.

Namely, I want a laptop that will run ED on high at or close to 60fps on high graphics at the native resolution of the screen.

Also, I would appreciate any suggestions as to controllers as I need something more portable than a joystick.

Thank you for reading this, and I appreciate any suggestions you may have.

What is your budget?
I don't like laptops so I built a system around the Mini ITX form factor.

It is still bigger and heavier than a laptop, but cheaper and faster because it holds normal PC parts. I'm currently working on an 30% smaller and 50% lighter case. I can fit that and one week worth of clothes into a cabin baggage. Then plug it into the TV set in the hotel and play like it was a console :D.

For joystick, consider the Cyborg FLY 5. It is the perfect portable stick. It can be folded away and disassembled into 2 for easy transportation. It still has like 12 buttons, HAT and 5 axis (horiz, vert, roll, 2x throttle). It is fully adjustable. You just need to do 2 simple mods:
Bind off some coils from the main spring. It is way too stiff by default.
Cover the LED connector. It is very annoying after 20 mins.

if you want a laptop that runs ED on high you are going to need to spend big bucks, i would suggest something like the ASUS ROG G751JT-T7115H it has a Nvidia GTX970M on board and should suit your needs.

as for a controller an xbox 360 pad is what i use, its compact and doesn't need a desk to use it, making it perfect for mobile gaming.

del...
Try an ASUS "ROG" laptop. ROG stands for "Republic of Gaming" (there is a website under that name). The upper end machines are fast and still run cool....and sport an i7 generation Intel chip-set and Nividea graphics as well as aTi if you like them better. I am playing ED on high (game choices) with an ASUS ROG "g750rx gaming laptop". This model has a 3gig Nvidea gtx770m graphics card. The down side is that with all the amenities it cost me $1750.00 in October of 2013. One of the many upsides to it is it still plays all the current games on high or ultra depending how the top choice is referred to by the game set-up. The g750rx is very likely no longer available but I'm certain similar current models are.

I just checked some gaming laptops. A P751ZV, configured to the exact same performance specs as my desktop costs 1600 Euros. The I7, GTX980 config is at the pricetag of 2100 Euros. My portable gaming rig costs only 800 Euros and I still have all the pros of a desktop, like replaceable and upgradeable parts.

ED wants 4 cores to run OK. Anything below I5 will have issues.

While I would want an i5 for reasons outside ED, ED itself doesn't currently need it. In an earlier test I disabled two cores on my i5 desktop gaming box making it effectively dual core, and it made no difference to frame rates. I even underclocked it before I saw any impact. A quad might be more important if you have older generation CPUs. On the Intel side, do note many mobile CPUs are dual core + hyper-threading.

Just bought an I7 with a 3gb GTX970M on board from a company called Scan. Really impressed by the service, cost was just under £1200, laptop is great, feels a lot more solid than my work Dell and performance generally is very acceptable. My desktop is an I7 with a GTX760M and its very apparent the drop off of a slightly weaker graphics card and cpu in ED, stutter appears to be back with a vengeance and I have moved from ultra to high quality as the default. To be fair I was expecting this as I wasn't prepared to pay any more.

Golden rule #1: avoid anything branded "Alienware".
I'm very happy with my Alienware 13. What, specifically, is your issue with the brand?

It does me just fine for when I can't use my desktop - I travel very often for work, and the GTX960m plays the game remarkably well at high/custom settings.

Having seen three of my friends buy them, my "issue" is that they are vastly overpriced and underpowered.

I couldn't find anything in the 13" range that wasn't Alienware. All of the other gaming laptops I looked at were either at a similar price to Alienware's offerings and had horrible, gaudy designs seemingly aimed at tweenies who think neon green is cool, or were significantly more expensive for similar-to-slightly-better specifications (disclaimer: I live in Japan; your prices may vary).

Other than that, gaming laptops are very expensive. If I didn't need a 2 kilo laptop that can play E|D (most other gaming laptops are at least 50% heavier), I'd have bought an ultrabook. I don't think you've really looked at the prices for gaming laptops though. They're horribly expensive.

My advice, after years of gaming on laptops, is to see if you REALLY need to have a laptop over a desktop. I know that there are some time that there is no choice but.. if you can use a dekstop, do.
Even a 17" laptop screen looks puny compared to a decent desktop monitor.

Budget: Lenovo y50 type / series. Brilliant for the money. GFD recommend a quad-core processor, best to go with that. My little Lenovo came with an Intel i7, plus a good Nvidia GPU.

Not necessarily, you're a lot closer to a laptop screen.

I'm currently sat in the lounge with my 17" laptop, and 2m away is a 50" TV.

Perception is the laptop screen is ~10% wider.
