Colossal announcement at Gamescom in two weeks' time

Maybe you are right, but they are talking about an Colossal Anouncement. Everything else then a Expansion Pack would be a joke. What else could it be? PS4 Release? (well maybe, this could bring them more money).

And if its an Expansion Pack then it can only be 1) Planetary Landings or 2) "Walking arround" Stuff. (Because they (kind of) sold this kind of Expansions Packs about 18 month ago : Exp1 or Exp2 or "Lifetime Pass").

BTW : An Anouncement didnt mean that the realease of this Expansion Pack is just arround the corner. But an Anounchment would give them the chance to (pre)sell these... wich means : Moar Money... And i am pretty sure FD needs money to finance further projects.

One thing is sure : The "Colossal Anouncement" is something that should generate money.

Expansion Pack (thumbs up!) or PS4 release (lame, but possible)!

Mark my words! :)
FS have said that it is a PC/Mac thing. So that rules out the PS4 as being the announcement, though I still expect it as soon as the exclusive arrangement with the XBox is done: so in time for Christmas. They have already rules out walkig about as being further into the future. I expect it to be planetary landings. If not, it is something from out in left field, in the way that powerplay and CQC were.

I personally hope for EVA ... for me that makes more logical sense:

- Iteration 1: Fly ship
- Iteration 2: Walk about ship and leave (when on the station)
- Iteration 3: Land on surface of planet and walk about

It's adding new things to do, rather than new locations with nothing to do ;)

(Sorry but to me PL is not that big a deal)
Sounds like it will be another disappointment for you, then.

Whats your opinion? What could it be if they call it "colosal"?

And guessing is not foolish in my eyes.
We don't know ... Frontier could have described PowerPlay as a colossal feature that would change the game ... that's why I keep saying don't get your expectations up, because it could be something else ... we don't know.

They said they had big announcement for E3 and we all know how that went.

I wont ever get excited ever again for any big announcements from these guys again.

Where do you guys get that planet landings are coming?

Yes they are coming but not in few weeks. Try a few years.

The devs have the game roughly planned out for 10years they said.

More importantly, FD have described it as a 'game breaker'. It will be a biggie.

Subsequent Edit:

Thanks for Patrick for finding the quote, which I failed to do, though I looked. David Walsh said 'transform the game' which pretty much means the same, but would not have allowed Liqua to make his joke.

David Walsch said : "We’ve been working very hard for a long time on some truly mouthwatering new features which fundamentally transform the game" --- Fundamentally is not a word to be taken lightly

They're finally going to fix the texture load pause for planets .... *pops champagne*

On a serious note - whatever the announcement is - I hope DX12 forms part of it.

For those of you wondering if Planetary Landings is the next big announcement I found this LINK on reddit. Just check the schedule that DB mentions. It can only be !

Plus it does declare that it will be seamless...which makes me very happy ! Although saying that, I wonder if FD consider transitions from SC to normal space seamless ? I don't !

Thanks for the link - interesting stuff! Whichever way you look at it, we have a lot to look forward to... :)

That has no connection at this time to what will be announced at Gamescon, OR another way to say it is, the reddit article does not indicate anywhere that the gamescon announcement must be planetary landings.

Please do not put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5.

BUT the timing for release does fit, so it could be! Plus, it is a major enough addition to be the Gamescom announcement. So, personally, I appreciated Steveideas' input to this speculation thread. It's all speculation, at the end of the day, but some is more grounded than others (if you'll pardon the PL pun). :D

Hear Hear. Elite is going to start aging fast if FD doesn't keep up with the changes coming in tech.

Got my recorder ready for if they announce player owned stations and territory. The sobbing, wailing and tears from the anti-Eve crowd will be too sweet to simply listen to once and let fade away. That needs to go on an infinite loop for my undying pleasure.

And at the same time I'll be walking away from the game because it'd mean that they completely abandoned the original roadmap and we can expect nothing originally lined out in the DDA's to happen.

A seamless landing and takeoff would be fantastic, and by seamless I mean no transition at all (no cut scene, no disengaging from SC). Which of course if that can be done with planetary landings, then why can't it be done with stations? The implications of seamless landing are big. Off the top of my head I can see reasons to escort ships into space. Dogfights being taken into the atmosphere, amphibious (Starship trooper) style attacks, all sorts of potential that would not be possible if the transition from planetside to space was done another way.

A vast expanse of space, populated by 400 billion star systems, all spread out on little instances. Spreading out the load so to speak, perhaps? preventing some massive lag as 1,000 plus players converge on 1 system in this vast galaxy? Bandwidth, graphics card limitations, the game engine perhaps all factor into decisions on how the players get to interact with each other - or don't get to interact with each other. I wonder how it will all mesh together.
