Interesting the hostility towards George after he went back to something that people held very dear from their childhoods and in their minds messed it up.

David Braben is a brave man indeed.

I don't really mind the prequels, the could've been worse.
But he shouldn't have changed the originals (adding more people & stuff with CGI - no probs with that) - one stupid Disneyfication to the script can ruin surprisingly much.

The version I see, Han shoots first every time.

The reason is that I watched it a 'few' times when I was a kid, at the cinema and then on VHS. It's imprinted on my brain.
If I watched it now (very very rarely) what happens in the screen from the DVD/BluRay just acts as a prompt. I am not really there, I don't see the image before me as such, I am transported back to being 6 years old and it is replayed from my memories.
I honestly would never had known about the Greedo thing if I had not read it.

In the same way I will be interested to see what my experience of Elite will be. When I was a child, the ships were not really wire-frames, only on the screen. In my imagination they were fully fleshed out. I kinda expect them to be the same ones I see this time as well.

I have a few TV memories that are in full colour, for example the original tomorrow people or the six million dollar man, but we had a black and white TV at the time so I must have coloured them in.
I totally agree about the Ships, and indeed the universe in Elite too. I remember it grimy, Lots of sheet metal, grease and laser burns, techy, and in colour.

would be a good chance to win and ask George why he screwed up the star wars prequels,

I'd send the winning ticket to this fan:

I recently saw the documentary "The people vs George Lucas" and it was good fun. I'm definitely in the camp that did not like the prequels nor the tampering with the originals (Han DID and SHOULD shoot first! He was a dangerous smuggler, selfish and very mercenary and what kind of Bounty Hunter can Greedo be to miss from point blank range like he did? heh?).

I'd hope that fan would rip him a new one and get him to plead forgiveness for his sins on youtube.

One with a great big blaster hole in him?

Well exactly (i think), either he is dead because Han shot first under the table like in the original film, or he shoots first, from 2 feet away, misses and then dies when Han shoots him after the miss.

What the scene tells us originally is:

Han is a bit of bad ass, he is wanted by jabba, he has a bounty hunter after him to collect the bounty. He knows this is not going well, so cunningly shifts his position to be able to reach his blaster and shoot the bounty hunter that has been pointing his blaster at Han the whole time. Han is a bad ass smuggler that will shoot you if you threaten him and his ship.

Greedo seems quite prepared to shoot Han, and this adds to the tension, here is a weird looking alien dude, hired by jabba to find and deal with Han and he got the jump on the smuggler so he must be a pretty decent bounty hunter.

What the remade scene tells us:

Greedo is an incompetent bounty hunter that can't even shoot, how did he even get the job in the first place when he can't shoot?

Han is just lucky, lucky that Greedo is such a bad shot.

And pretty much a lot of the new stuff in the special editions (Jabba meeting Han etc) is not only not adding to the original film, it takes away. There are a few touch up shots (X-wings with pilots in them flying by etc) that are fine, but yeah, the 'special editions' are not the ones i would choose to watch, if i had any choice (thanks again George!).

I have suffered from reflux for years now, I wonder if he could help me too!.

Interestingly, the gurgle that produces from my throat sometimes could be mistaken for a wookie purring.
