This really seemed like a no-brainer CG. I've been asking for this construction tied to anything at this point (guilds, houses, factions, etc) Hell, I don't care if it's just me building the thing and it takes 5 years. Explorers have been steadily working their way out from the bubble into the anarchy of deep space and finding systems. There are stations deep in the black with no functional way of connecting with the trade model. We need to be able to build stations in viable systems. Whatever system of expansion ED is using is not visible to me. I'm not even sure they are adding stations, and if they are at what rate? Anyone every seen a post about new stations being added?
Just give the option to do so and let the players do the political footwork to get it done. Whenever people mention guilds, the first response is EVE (which I've never played, seen it - looked sorta stupid). A group of friends, people with a common goal, group chat on Teamspeak, a station to call home that comes with a storage facility, a dock, a guild bank, etc. Yes, why not? Player joins, asks to join a guild/house (I prefer house) he does his duty, the house gives him a new ship. Eh! Sure, why not? It's house business right?
But a colossal change would be required for this. COLOSSAL! Is planetary landing colossal? Perhaps if it contained everything you wanted (which I suspect will be very very difficult to achieve). Is it the Thargoids? I don't think so. Although the Ancient artifact is very interesting, I think this is an Easter egg for Christmas or later.
Yes, but not as advertised in the trailer. The trailer suggested that the construction stage of the station was dynamic and dependent on player participation in the community goal. Instead, the different construction stages of the station were manually injected during patch updates following the completion of the community goal.
Players expected dynamic content, but didn't get any.
Also: Did anybody notice that the lore states that it is actually the OCELLUS Starport, not the ORBIS starport, which is mobile and generally used to establish a first permanent presence in a newly settled star system, yet in the game it has always been the ORBIS starport, as seen in the video you linked? I have never once seen an actual OCELLUS starport doing what it was advertised to do. In fact, seeing as the ORBIS is obviously perfectly capable of hyperspace travel, the OCELLUS feels kind of obsolete right now. Even the famous NPC android Jaques uses a modified ORBIS to travel the galaxy.
