So close to Elite

After my last trip of 1500 systems I thought I'd made it to Elite, and then I saw this

I reckon I will now travel through civilised space and discover stuff just to get me over the line before I finally visit Founder's world for the first time

Can you post a SS of your exploration stats?
I find the variances between CMDR's ranks interesting.

Well gives me a baseline to gauge my return to the Bubble with (currently at 47%... I reckon the Level 3 Scans are the best to go by overall)

i doubt that you get 18 million within human space.
I would guess that Col Frost did some exploring prior to when the exploration payouts were doubled. Those earlier earnings are counted double to compensate when the rankings are determined. If that's the case he could be within 1 or 2 million of Elite status which would seem plausible for 98% of the way from Pioneer to Elite.

Yes, Iv'e been exploring since Beta. I didn't realize the rewards had changed, thanks for the info.
I'm going to leave "civilised" space again I think, very little to discover there anymore it seems.
I'm going to head as far down as I can :)

Well, I hope my current trip won't leave me like that. Though I think I'll sit at 10000 systems scanned when I come home, that should be enough.

Only 5000ish Level 3 scans? Were you neutron hunting? (not accusing, just curious and trying to put the money/scan types into perspective)

Yes, on my last trip I was a shameless neutron farmer. I actually blundered into the neutron fields on my first (abortive) trip to Sag A*; it was my first exploring trip and I didn't really recognise them for what they were (I wasn't filtering the map on non-sequence stars only, so I couldn't really see the wood for the trees that close to the core). After bouncing off a few too many neutron stars I bottled it and ran home. Shortly afterwards the concept of the neutron fields were "outed" and I realised what I'd found, but not recognised.

Later I did a Sag A* trip and some "proper" vegan exploring, but after an unfortunate incident I lost my ship and about 50M credits of data. Took me a while to head out into the black again, and this time I decided to just farm the credits I'd missed out on.

No need to hang your head in shame (well, maybe a little ;) ). Especially since you're mostly just making up for those lost credits ;)

I have calculated I will need 2,000 systems in my latest jaunt. Currently at 420. I am scanning more than usual as well. I will sell the data bit by bit when I get back so I can tell exactly when I get to Elite.
