OMG OMG OMG. Lifetime pass purchased. Cobra Mk IV OMG. Finally back on track I think. This is going to be good news for the casual player.
Meh..
it'll end up like everything else with ED - the first few weeks it'll be ooohshiny syndrome but then when you actually spend some time with it you'll realise that there's not much substance in it at all.
I hope I'm proved wrong but even now, the old mile wide, inch deep still applies.
FD seriously need to add some meaningful content to fill their universe.
There won't be much difference in the experience in exploring the same tired procedurally generated surface v procedurally generated different coloured ball floating in space.

My only complaint..
Holiday 2015? C'mon Frontier, you're a British company, if you mean Christmas say Christmas, drop the silly Americanism![]()
Not that big of a surprise, really. Their recent forum activity basically confirmed it. Also, technically, planetary landings were previously announced in interviews. This is more of a confirmation and foreseeable release time frame.
I'm actually more excited by this:
Craftable stuff, yeah!
Did not expect base raiding/defense, or the buggy, or the Cobra Mk IV.
Of course I am not forced, but also I am not able. I already paid 50 for the base game a couple of months ago, and now 50 again? Too much, especially considering the fact that they didn't update the base game as much as they promised. Maybe they will do that for another 50 euro expansion. This company is disappointing me more and more.
So the question is...
Seemless sandbox... or lots of min-games?
Can you fly down/around a whole planet? My spider senses say no, but then it does mention dog fighting in canyons? Fingers crossed!
Can we fly down seemlessly to the planet, or is it done via a new "jump mechanic" so we lock onto a planetary location, and then press a jump button and are taken down there (automatically)?
Will the things you can do on a planet simply be (more) self contained mini-games (again)? ie: Find a rock to mine, mine it, onto the next? Fight for the base, and then what? Next time you log on someone else is in there? Or are we going to get the broader mechanics? Find a location, and be able to "build" upon it/utilise it in someway?
Mother nature? With all these worlds be completely dead? Not even ice geysers or volcanic activity?
Guess we'll find out how deep the sand is in this sandbox over the coming months...
