does the lifetime pass come with the Cobra MK4 as well as all the other bonuses for buying the horizons pre-order? :D

Elite Dangerous: Horizons will be available to pre-order on our store today, and I’m very happy to announce all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a 25 percent loyalty discount off the Horizons retail price. Existing players will also unlock the exclusive Cobra Mk IV ship in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year – forever. It’s our ‘thank you’ for your faith in the game, and you’ll see more of the Cobra Mk IV in Friday’s Peek Of The Week

nvm! answer found!

Is this really happening? I didn't dare dreaming it could really be "Planetary Landings" what they were going to announce at Gamescon!

Perfect time to come back to the game, I'd say!

So the question is...

Seemless sandbox... or lots of min-games?

Can you fly down/around a whole planet? My spider senses say no, but then it does mention dog fighting in canyons? Fingers crossed!

Can we fly down seemlessly to the planet, or is it done via a new "jump mechanic" so we lock onto a planetary location, and then press a jump button and are taken down there (automatically)?

Will the things you can do on a planet simply be (more) self contained mini-games (again)? ie: Find a rock to mine, mine it, onto the next? Fight for the base, and then what? Next time you log on someone else is in there? Or are we going to get the broader mechanics? Find a location, and be able to "build" upon it/utilise it in someway?

Mother nature? With all these worlds be completely dead? Not even ice geysers or volcanic activity?

Guess we'll find out how deep the sand is in this sandbox over the coming months...

Unfortanetly it's only airless rocky worlds in the beginnig, but i was expecting it, and i'm still very excited about it.

I'm very surprised about the land vehicle, i wasn't expecting it, even in my wet dreams!

PS: Just don't try to sell atmosphere planets as another expansion, because this expansion's price is already quite high :p

Not that big of a surprise, really. Their recent forum activity basically confirmed it. Also, technically, planetary landings were previously announced in interviews. This is more of a confirmation and foreseeable release time frame.

I'm actually more excited by this:

This second major update will include additional gameplay-focused content including an all-new game-changing loot and crafting system.

Craftable stuff, yeah!

Did not expect base raiding/defense, or the buggy, or the Cobra Mk IV.

OK well done FD. After PP and CQC I had my doubts, but I'm feeling a lot more confident now. Two questions though...

I assume that this also applies to alpha & premium beta players who don't need to buy the expansion, but get it free? Also when you say "unlock" do you mean that we'll get one as a freebie (like the Freagle), or that we'll be the only people ever able to purchase one?

VERY, VERY pleased with this announcement. And the 25% discount is a very nice sentiment. I'm a backer - don't mind paying at all - they need to raise funds to develop the game.

Seriously Well done FD.

Hmm. I guess I should be excited, but I really think the existing missions are barely passable and should have been 'trivial' to expand. That this hasn't happened yet, before a massive new expansion, really worries me. I want to feel like I'm a pilot flying around in a believable universe. Planetary landings aren't important for this (and Powerplay actually seems like a game tacked on top, so it even takes away from the sense of immersion). What I would like are: more space station variety, interesting missions that are a lot more complex and believable, more stuff to find in the universe, less arbitrary gamey gimmicks like USSes. It looks like Horizons is a distraction that removes yet more effort from making the main game (what I would consider) complete.

This is Fraking unbelievably Fantastic!
I have the feeling like "watched Star Wars for the first time" or latest Episode VII trailer "Chewee, we're home".
WOW!!!!!

Frontier Developments - YOU ARE THE BEST !!!!! Thank you for that!

Looks good, loot and crafting as well, will wait to see the content, 2016 Q1 release, some time away still. :D

I'll repeat...

Been waiting for this!!

YAY Tinman is back!!!! :D

And OK, it IS planetary landings. ... I am as happy as the rest of you, if not happier ... I just did not want you all to get excited IN CASE it wasn't planetary landings.

@Frontier Developments ... This is probably THE most important thing you're delivering in the Elite Dangerous development ... DO NOT screw it up.
