I'll admit I'm a bit disappointed that we will apparently have to pay extra to access the beta for this even if we already bought into the beta for the original game. ¨For pretty much every other early-access game I've supported, once you had beta once, it carried over to any expansions. Of course, the main reason I'm disappointed is that I'm not sure I can financially defend spending the extra money AGAIN, even though I do want to :p

Other than that though, I'm very excited for this!

Well, until I see gameplay footage and read more detail information, I'm keeping my expectations low...

If we look at the game mechanics in the existing core game we have lots of simplistic mini-games. What's to suggest Horizons will not be more of the same? We have Powerplay which IMHO is not only a mis-concieved design, it's a worryingly simplistic design with no attempt to deepen peoples gaming exerience, but simply re-offer the same limited mini-games. What's to suggest Horizons will not be more of the same?

So until I see or find out more of new mechanics offered in Horizons, I'll assume they are more mini-games bolted onto the side of more mini-games. Until I see otherwise, I will not expect a single sniff of anything deep enough to offer any emergent/deep gameplay mechanics.

I know this sounds a little cynical, but since the games release I've seen little if no sand added to the sandbox to improve core gameplay, which remains frustratingly simple IMHO. If the core game is like this, apples don't often fall far from the tree...

Fingers crossed I'm wrong, and we get wonderful new deep/broad gameplay and visuals... But I'm limiting my expectations based on current/previous experience at the moment.

Hi guys

Literally cannot state accurately my excitement at this. I had very nearly quit altogether, but recently started easing back in. And now THIS!!!

I wanted to ask a stupid question: I backed to Premium Beta level then upgraded to Alpha a little later. Do I get the Expansion Pass? Also do I get the Cobra Mk IV?

Is the Expansion Pass displayed anywhere I can check?

Cheers!

Steve

My god....i already ask this 10 times.....can you please respond? will beta and premium beta have access to the beta horizon stage?

My, aren't you impatient. I'm sure the answer will come ... in the fullness of time.

Has this been confirmed somewhere else, or is that just your conjecture?

It does mention "unlock" - maybe, like the Imperial Clipper, the ship is not available to just anyone who enters the shipyard but requires a permit / rank to be able to be purchased. As long as the permit is able to be earned in-game in some way then that would seem to be fair enough to me.

I would like that, too, as an alternative solution. The wording still sounds very clearly that the ship won't be available at all for anyone who joins later. :(

The price is as much as a full fledged AAA release

They're asking that full price for essentially an "early access" expansion where you pay without actually knowing how much content it will feature in the future, so not even full price for an early access title. Full price for an early access EXPANSION

Nope. Just nope everywhere.

FD burned me and a lot of other people with the same damn model for the base game. It's still the same shallow husk of a space sim almost completely devoid of content.

I agree. People will start to realize that after the hype slows down. And let's not forget that people buying the expansion now will get it and ED for 50 euros, while us original owners, that paid 50 for the original, now have pay another 40 for the expansion, only one year later. So FaIR.

In the same way that the Sol system was "unlocked" for Alphas & Betas, but could be earned by everyone else? Seems likely.

Haven't gone through the whole thread to see if the question(s) have already been answered.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons will be available to pre-order on our store today, and I’m very happy to announce all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a 25 percent loyalty discount off the Horizons retail price. Existing players will also unlock the exclusive Cobra Mk IV ship in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year – forever. It’s our ‘thank you’ for your faith in the game, and you’ll see more of the Cobra Mk IV in Friday’s Peek Of The Week.

Due to popular demand, we’ve also decided to bring back for a limited time the lifetime expansion pass. It should appear in our store later today.

  1. What period is the "First Year", is it the Kickstarter or Release?
  2. What Kickstarter pledge included the lifetime expansion pass?
  3. As a Kickstarter backer do I need to do anything to obtain the Elite Dangerous: Horizons?

Thanks & Regards

So I just installed the Horizons Beta Launcher, and it doesn't look any different from the normal. I thought there may be a Beta launch button. Am I being thick or are we having to wait for a server side update?
