On a more serious note, regarding this hint:
We decyphered it, but might the format also reveal something?
Because apart from upside down and rot-13, the most noticeable is that the sentence is written in six groups of four characters.
Now the upside down and rot-13 I can understand, as it is used to obfuscate the message. But why 6x4?

No clues here, only relevance I can think of (grasping at straws) is the UA has three rows of four 'canisters'. So 2 UAs?

6x4 is a method used to mask the presence of a sentence.
Its standard cryptography used confuse decoders.

Example: This sentance contains many words of verrying length. If i were to decode this into rot13:

Guvf fragnapr pbagnvaf znal jbeqf ireelvat yratgu. Vs v jrer gb qrpbqr guvf vagb ebg13:

you would obviously know thats a sentence.

However... 6 words containing 4 letters doesnt look anything like a natural sentence and therefore hides the message a little more.

and gamescom will last 4 days so there is plenty of time for them to reveal things. Kerrash had given both Arcannon and I rep for posts we made saying something along the lines of "The end is nigh, gamescom will reveal the solution to the UA" for what ever thats worth, our time may be up to progress the story of Elite: Dangerous.

gamescom is going to last four more days :p they will likey have (at the very least) a closing announcement to keep us hyped.

Im fairly confident that since PL was announced its either walking around ships or Thargoids.

What follows is a shortened version of my speculations and is in no way the truth....maybe.

The UA disrupts navigational controls and works well in conjunction with the frame shift drive. Mr Rodgers knew this so he travelled in a shuttle which didn't have a FSD but the UAs master still pancaked him into Patterson in normal space (by controlling navigation and maybe thrusters too). Experiments have been going on in one form or another for over fifty years, without many leaks save the elephants graveyard of ships one. As for SS1 there was no fire, no misjump the UA specifically targeted it and it went wherever if was instructed to go by the UAs fat controller. Got to keep the shareholders happy.

So to test this, well it's counter intuitive but firstly get the precious UA to target just when it's active (it does this through its scanner), then jump away from it normally with your FSD.

Ok maybe leave a guardian with it to prevent loss on test failure, but if the test succeeds may I be the first to congratulate you, as we wont be seeing you again, er probably. Maybe you'll get lucky and it'll only exhaust your fuel and the Rats will come and save you?

So the UA is a multiuse device that specifically targets and sends ships where it's master wants them to go....into a star, black hole, space station or the nearest public library, by misguiding the navigational systems.

Believe me this post is far shorter, makes less sense, is in no way witty, is less well constructed than the missing one and less well constructed, with more errors but is shorter for you the victim.

This is a really interesting theory, but isn't necessarily friendly to testing. If the UAs are disrupting navigation all the time under conditions we can trigger, then yeah it's testable. But if the UAs' masters have to 'trigger' them to seriously interfere with navigation, then our tests won't mean anything. Given that no rashes of misjumps, drive malfunctions, or missing ships are being reported since the UAs showed up - only 2 individual incidents - a 'trigger' scenario seems more likely.

the shuttle was a murder made to look like an accident, it had nothing to do with the UA directly.

Sean Richards knew something that linked Antares with SS1 and was killed by some one who messed with the Auto-Dock to make the murder look like an accedent.

theres no need to think the UA had anything to do with it, as this is a classic "cut the breaks" conspiracy theory

Do you folks even own tinfoil? :D

Look people I'm on my last brain cell here, but even I can get the above. Simply turn your monitor upside down or screen lock it and rot-13 becomes Elit e in a stylised way and does this help? Bah I don't know. Anyone got £120 to spare....?

And Patreus' man a suspect.

Well that will ruin the political landscape of the Empire

Might be better time to get the UA and bug out of human space for a while

Ah still letting facts get in the way of meaningful facts......dross....., Ryes point taken Sir and I suspected this...... Maybe the UA hadn't targeted them? I mean no you're right.

It's possible but we haven't noticed anything that would suggest the UA has targeted someone so this is going to be hard to test thoroughly. My feeling is that if this were the answer, the devs would have made the UA do something to indicate that it had targeted a ship.

rot-13 nothing to do with it! Oh....... Are you sure 6x4=24......... Seemed ok to me...burble....and the cash?
