1.5 SHIPS

I've had my camera bug out and displace from the pilot's seat - the interiors are definitely not on the ingame models, but we have seen shots of an Anaconda's interior so that's not to say they don't have models waiting to be implemented.

Ah okay, must have misread a dev quote. I think I saw in the DDF that all ships were made ready for first person mode. Perhaps it's another thing removed from the original idea.

Walking around logically will have to come after an intensive redesign of the game's assets. The debug cam shows you this. So far, with the exception of your bridge and the open areas of the different stations, there is practically nowhere to walk to. Models will have to be more complex and redesigned to allow for our characters to go to meaningful locations like say a shop at a station, the med bay of your ship etc. By that respect planetary landing is a walk in the proverbial park because procedural generation will take care of most of it hence why it's coming first.

As I understand it, the entire interiors have basically been modelled for measurement and planning for the future. Might be wrong about that though - I'm not sure where I picked it up.
As for meaningful interactions, yes, that would proably come later.

I hold onto this aswell :D I read some where that all ships are modeled with the interiors complete. The stations you can tell are not.

As far as I know the ships aren't modeled with the interiors complete.

The ships have been planned with interiors in mind and they have done some preliminary "whiteboxing", but that is all we know.

Only makes sense from a dev standpoint to model the ships with the intention of being able to move in them in the future, then pulling the interior assets out for the time being for performance increases.

If I understood the announcement right, atmospheric stuff was going to be a part of this season, but would come at a later release (some time during 2016)

No, that isn't the case.

Not within the season - planets with life and atmospheres are further down the line.

Michael
Maybe - but Mars has an atmosphere so isn't landable in Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

Michael
We've always said that we'd come at it in stages - it's a massive amount of development!

Michael

That's true, I didn't think of that; implementing realistic movement in freefall might be hard.

Just a thought.... are you aware of how currently in real life, we have aircraft that go through a series of ascents and descents in some parabolic science stuff to create momentary 'weightlessness'? I wonder if it could be done, but in the opposite to create gravity on our ship for an extended period of time. Some sort of rolling, thrusting vertically loop thingy.

It would certainly be amusing to watch :D

Oh - that's right Tinman. I guess that I'll have to wait for a bit more before flying under the Golden Gate bridge at supersonic speed.

Federal Corvette for 1.5 sounds reasonable.

It certainly could. The effect would be the same as a station's ring - you move tangentially away from the object as it rotates, but you're trapped inside it, so the result is that you're pressed against the "floor". A ship could be set on autopilot and put in a wide loop to simulate gravity on board.

With larger ships - and possibly more passenger ones? Wonder if Crew and Passengers will happen with this.

The name of the update is "ships" so hopefully it not only comes with 30+ ships bit also fleshes out the ships as well. I think passenger missions is a realistic prediction. I'm really hoping for ship walking (don't really care for station walking, or planet walking personally )

Lets see the Viper Mk II, Sidewinder Mk II, Fer-de-Lance Mk II... they'll look identical with different stats and labeled as new. :p

Same with the Federal Assault Ship = looks like the Federal Drop Ship and Cobra Mk IV = Cobra Mk III.

I hope for some flavor variants such as FFE's Cobra Mk. I ("Let's face it, credits don't grow on trees. They have to be earned, although the definition of 'earned' varies throughout the Galaxy. Nevertheless, very few people have access to unlimited funds, or anything approaching it. For those people the Cobra Mk 1 was designed. Even its name gives the game away; it's the cheaper, less-desirable version of the incomparable Cobra Mk 3, so to turn up in one of these at Abraham Lincoln or Duval City basically announces to everyone that you're a bit pushed for cash at the moment. Or permanently. Harsh, but true. Why? Because if you could afford a Mk 3, you'd buy one." from wiki.alioth.net)

Actually you would not need that complex maneuvering. Just point the top of your ship (as the cockpit models indicate, the interior is aligned in the direction of the landing gear - which spacewise does not make much sense) to where you're going and fire the ventral thrusters at a steady 1g and you have all the gravity you need. Remember to flip directions at the halfway point. [Spacewise it would make more sense to align the interior in the direction of the main thrusters, but c'est la vie].

I think the reason all those ships look the same is because the dev team tried to model them closely to the originals which were just polygonal shapes :p

in contrast to the Diamondback which is brand new to the series and veryyy sexy

Cobra Mk IV is larger than the III. Similar model but different mesh.

The cobra in the trailer definitely look more "thick" than the mk3. I wonder if it will be a 5mCr tier ship like the asp.

Also I wonder what module slot the Scarab fits in. If it's an exploration buggy hopefully it will fit in the DBx. Probably the asp for sure. It's gunna be heavy tho... that'll drop your jump range.

They said every ship can use the Scarab, so most likely a C1 slot. It folds up and what not. The larger surface vehicles though will only fit in some of the larger ships.

Awesome! I didn't get a chance to watch the stream or anything today. Thnx!
