3D plastic toys & figures

Hi All!
I didn't find any threads about subj and decide to make one. How do you think, the Frontier have a 3D printer? If not, so there is time! They could make a plastic models of an Elite ships or something and sell it. I think there are many people, who'd want even one of them. And me too :D I'd be happy to have detailed model of Anaconda or Panther Clipper.
They even can include some plastic toys in some kind of GIFT EDITION of the game :) What do you think, people?

As someone who has little diecast models of MiG-29s etc stuck on the top of his monitor, the answer is, yes, I would love stuff like that! :)

I've got a 3d printer and would love it if Frontier or anyone else released a 3d pattern so I could print a copy or two of a Cobra for example (copyright issues not withstanding).

The original kick starter offered 3d printed ships as add ons, and they were pretty expensive: 500 quid for a cobra, 800 for anaconda or something like that (crazy guy that I am, I ordered a cobra). So I doubt they will be offering official 3d models cheaply any time soon

... or two, or three, or even spacestation. This would be great.. this is borderless capabilities to get extra profit. I think even Chris Roberts didn't thought about it yet.

I made a paper Cobra MkIII ;)

There is a thread on here somewhere with printable templates :)

But with paper you can't give it more details.

With patience and a steady hand you could do as much with paper as any other medium. I was just adding an additional option to 3D printing for those wanting to be a little creative. A colour print, with photoshopped on decals etc to personalise it more, it's a nice little thing to have ;)

I'd jump at an affordable model though... much like many would.

If anyone has a 3D modelling program and feels like making something that they want as a physical model, it can be done quite cheaply with the help of these guys. Send them your 3D computer model and they will turn it into a physical model for you. Take a look at some of their stuff, it is amazingly high quality:

flattering, but my printer is crap.. ive been using the 'cobra' as a 'large wasteful all encompassing' test for months..

not to say its a bad model, its a shape, but practically it needs to be 4 + inches wide.. my printer had problems with that.

And does this crowd not think I would have posted an image of a print i liked?

not me.

@chock - The shapeways stuff is stunning. All we need is a 3D modeller to make an image of a Sidewinder or Cobra. To be honest FD ought to be thinking about something like this for their shop.
