It's about FD's credibility, or lack there of.
Believe nothing they say.
Only believe what you see.
Hope some of it works.
FD obviously reserves the right to invalidate any and all previous statements regarding the game at any time.
Just accept it and move on.

But they probably won't decide that until next year.

Exactly. Whether $180 is good value or not depends entirely on how much time you expect to spend playing the game. Assuming expansions keep costing $60 each, that's three expansions you're buying now. If, based on your experience with other sandbox games and ED so far, you think you'll be playing at least three more years, then it's a good deal and you should probably buy it. If on the other hand you see yourself not playing any more after next year (because you're expecting some other game or you tend to tire of even the most fun games after two years) then it won't be a good deal for you. Also, if you want beta access, this is the only way to get it.

You're missing a very important detail here. The initial lifetime expansion pass cost £30, this new one costs £130 (i.e a hundred pounds more or more than four times as much). You could easily argue that the limited offer was the drastically reduced price, not the expansion pass itself.Newsletter #33

"It'll be gone forever" was used as an incentive to make people buy it, the fact it is back now just seems wrong to me.

Just to be clear, I grant FD every dime it makes. Its not my intend to withhold others the ability to buy it.
KS perks were offered and seem to be gone forever, same happened to the Alpha perks. If Beta perks are back for sale now, why not the others? I missed a couple of those
As a kickstarter backer I'd be fine with people paying equally over the odds for the same kickstarter rewards as I got. Most of them are completely irrelevant after a few hours playtime anyway, so more fool them to be quite frank.
When I pledged we were only expecting two expansions, so taking into account things like sales (especially Steam), I was still out of pocket even at £30 compared to late comers (kickstarter backers actually got the expansion pass at the £80 tier, buyers in the store could pick up the game and the pass for only £70). I didn't mind, because it was still worth it to see this game get made. It'd be nice if people didn't begrudge those of us who actually took the risk and backed this project our little discount now it transpires that it's a very good deal indeed.

I hope it stays because I can't afford it right now and I'm kinda mad I missed the discounted one to begin with.
I believe that if you use paypal you can pay it off in six months with no interest.
I'm addressing both positions, because they're both equally silly in my opinion.
Don't really care that it's available again, happy for people to be able to purchase it if they want to, none of my biznatch.
The price is eye watering but nothing new from FD, they love gouging (£200 Alpha, £10 skins etc..).
The reason it's available again is that FD like money, lots of money. No other reason.
I bet DB is peed off that he offered it at only £35 in KS. He had to though else it wouldn't have been funded and he'd have egg on his face.
It was touch and go for a while which I think looking back now you can attribute to arrogance. He expected people to throw money at him like CR and SC had. Turned out just saying "New Elite! Give me money" wasn't quite enough, they needed to scurry about putting stuff together to actually show us, had to promise an offline mode and to offer all future content for high pledge tiers.
