I have to agree, I don't see any similarity other than both being hatches. The shapes are quite different.
That said, in theory the Anaconda should be able to carry small fighters, and the Dropship is certainly large enough to fit a Condor or Sidewinder. There's still hope that this will finally implemented someday in the game…

This is the fed assault ship, not the drop ship.
Also I'm trying really hard to see how these are completely different shapes. One is a gentle square with two cut corners and four parts that stick out attached to hydraulics. The other is a gentle square with two cut corners and four parts that stick out on the sides.
Eddie Symmons on the Gamescom stream event hinted at such a thing. He basically said on the new Federal Gunship, look closely at some part at the bottom back, and think about what it could be used for.

Maybe it's capable of dropping your buggy off and returning to SC on its own only to scoop you up on the move??
