Open PvE

Open is open. There is risk of pvp at any time and that risk is not translated to riskier npc interactions when not in open (currently there is nothing in the game that takes the place of human player actions). That's why certain things involving the community only affect open, you get the good with the bad. Anything that restricts that to remove the bad should not expect any of the good. If you want the carebear safeness of solo then there is a mode for that.

That being said, the vast majority of open gameplay is against the environment already. You only get significant player sightings much less interaction if you choose to play in the few areas that are active with other players. Not sure what this thread is looking for other than trying to undermine open, which is already fairly undermined by being able to hot swap modes as-is.

And hasn't FD's response thus far been "Working as intended?"

PvE only playing being largely supported by private group play is a benefit many of you are overlooking. Most Cheaters and griefers can't be bothered to go through the process of joining up before getting their jollies. Give them one click access and PvE open will be no different than PvP open, the only difference will be in how they harass you.

Frontier have not responded to the request for an Open-PvE group that I know of.

Most, but not all - there has been at least one false-flag application whose behaviour got the player kicked from the group as soon as they were identified as the perpetrator of PvP outwith the designated areas in Mobius.

Great, then he can hand it off to someone else. Better yet, he can hand it off to several someones. Any group that large should be managed by committee anyways as a matter of practicality.

.... but for the small detail that Private Groups can, at present, only be managed by the player that created them.

Also, if the group is so large, why not advertise it in the game client?

In Star Trek, the Borg shields adapt and are impervious to the Federation's weapons. It's not that silly. We are all part of the Pilot's Federation. Just add to the lore that Pilot Federation weapons cannot damage Pilot Federation shields. Think of it like an evolution of existing IFF (identification friend or foe) military technologies.

The NPC's are members of the Pilot's federation too, by virtue of being pilots...

Nope, that is exactly the opposite of what the Dev's have explained. The distinction between PC's and NPC's is the Pilots Federation. I'm not a quote searcher, but this is part of the game's lore.

So one person got banned from Mobius in 9 months for griefing. Now imagine that you had 150 people like him logging in daily to Open PvE and they can't be banned or removed from the game, because ramming people, glitching out the AI and kill stealing aren't bannable offenses. Ejecting hundreds of canisters of biowaste in a mining field full of newbs isn't a bannable offense. Bumping miners and screwing with their ore collection isn't a bannable offense, etc...

High Security Space in EvE online taught griefers 100 methods to harass PvE players for every 1 method of harassing a PvP player. Putting a PvE only play mode up will make you Target #1.

Ask for better private group management tools, and make the good thing you have better. Don't throw it all away by asking to have all of the features of Open play that instigated the creation of private groups, and likewise Mobius within a private group instead of Open play, to begin with.

I think there should be an official PvE mode, but how to police it would indeed be difficult. Would probably need human moderators, likely paid in some in-game fashion

Doesn't work.

Guys. Please take it from someone who spent a year terrorizing both PvE and PvP players in EvE without killing a single ship in the process (Killed plenty of ships, but not doing that). Making players invulnerable to each other on public servers is just a challenge to be accepted by people who want to antagonize other people. In EvE I used to cost groups of dozens of players billions of in-game currency and burn their night of gaming just by logging in on one screen, going AFK and watching Netflix on the other. You don't want Open PvE. Make Private PvE better. Mobius is a roaring success, taking it into a public setting will burn it to the ground.

I have to ask... why did you do it? What thrill did you get out of antagonizing others and messing up their game play?

Who says I started it? :D

EvE politics, man... It's a whole 'nother world. And there's more than one way to fight.

oooohhh dodged that question like a politician.

i'll put words in your mouth, "it was the voices made me do it!"

i like the idea of the letter for permission to pirate, and weapons and ramming just pass through player ships with no damage.

if all the griefers rage quit over this it will only improve the player experience for non-psycho killers.

Players who contravene the rules of an Open-PvE mode would not need to be removed from the game, just that mode. We instance change all the time - after a breach of the rules, the offending player could simply be moved to Open at the next instance change. All damage / insurance costs for a player attacked by another player could be reimbursed in full as well as full retention of cargo, booty, bounty vouchers, merits vouchers, exploration data, etc.. While using game mechanics (i.e. oldest temporary object is deleted when the instance limit is exceeded) to annoy others is possible, I would expect that video evidence of the dumper in action could gain that player a holiday from Open-PvE. Regarding bumping ships - if one is stopped then it's fairly obvious who has rammed who.

I do appreciate that EvE would seem to be a breeding ground for "anything goes" tactics designed to adversely affect other players - it's more than a bit sad that some players get their kicks simply thwarting others and not actually playing the game.

Private Group management tools would be a very welcome addition - along with the promised ability to affect the rules of the PG.

The only reasons why I wouldn't want an open PvE group is that it would hurt mobius and that the modes are not equal to eachother anymore (which they are currently more or less but it still causes problems).

I may be wrong, but if an Open-PvE mode was implemented then I would expect that Mobius would breathe a sigh of relief at not having to spend so much time managing the biggest PvE Private Group in the game (which was created because there is no Open-PvE mode)....

For me, having a single mode is not a problem. But it is a problem that players who do not share space with us, they change the results of the game to online players. I think that should reduce or cancel its contributions to the powerplay, by perform in a hidden way for the rest, without possible that other players can interfere with their actions "undermining / fortification / preparation." Must have different rules itself to different modes of game play, frontier is favoring solo mode, meaningless, if they wanted a way only to have made the game offline, but no, they give us an unfair game for the clashes which awards for the solo a and promotes inequality between players. If this will continue and which seems pretty likely.

It might be a good idea to add much more difficulty to the NPC giving them greater combat capability, increasing their number and classes of ships, especially favoring large multiple wings born and very very very difficult. But something must be done, enough of this inequality.

Currently the artificial intelligence of NPCs is very very very basic, too, easy knock down a wing of 3 ships with a single ship well prepared.

While I agree with the sentiment that we can use less of those kind of players to maintain a relatively less bloodthirsty playerbase. I don't see how demeaning players who enjoy defeating other players can be justified.

FD doesn't really set a standard for what is grieving and what is not. People can claim that they are RPing/blazing their trail by Pking as long as they don't use exploits or cheats.

PvE mode will definitely benefit Mobius since the former is identical to the latter's intended mechanic. However this will fragment the playerbase even further if we do not replace/delete modes and provide appropriate compensations.
