Following on from the "Follow at a Distance" theory.
Have just tried following a Hafnium Convoy from a distance twice, 3.6km and 5.1km. Both times the wing jumped fully intact.
If there is method to guarantee or at least encourage the Conda escorts to get lost, there is more to it than so far recognised. Both times I had the T9 targeted, and my weapons stowed.

Did the extra wings leave sooner?
Did you close with the T9 when it started to jump?
I usually have weapons deployed though it would be strange if that made a difference.
I'll test with more convoys later.

Hail, CMDRs!

I've been tasked by the higher powers to collect a list of in-game CMDR names for The Canonn player group.
If you would like to add your in game CMDR name to a collective list please send me a private message containing your CMDR name.
We will use this list to amass a friends group and perhaps one day a private group server.

Your CMDR name will go on a list that will be published in a mass Private Message to the rest of the player group.
It's alright if you're already apart of an existing player group as this is a Scientific Collective and we are not bound by petty politics.

All are welcome! Spam my inbox!
As of this post we have 40+ members

If you are unsure whether or not to join, all backers will receive "founder" status along with a complimentary one-of-a-kind/one-time-only Timocani tinfoil hat!
Once the list has reached a good size I will do my best to compile all the willing CMDRs into one message.
Once that message has been sent the "founder" offer will be closed.

Tell your friends!

Starting to feel a little like Tweek ?

I apologize if this has already been put forward as an idea, but has anyone tried triangulating an origin point of the UAs based on where they've been found already?

We arnt really sure what designates a system as a UA system. Theoretically any system that can spawn a SSS has potential to spawn a UA. We don't have any evidence to suggest otherwise at this point :/ sorry

I didn't notice much difference with the extra wings, they always seem to leave a few mins before the main wing, and never follow to the target system, so have never been of much interest to me.

I didnt close on the t9, I thought that would be likely to make it behave like when I followed it closely but it did normally turn to align with the new system and get 500m or so closer before its fsd was charged

Weapons deployed can often change the behaviour of a targeted ship in other situations, making them more nervous. Will try it too.

I just ran across a mission with a really intriguing description.

There's a part that says "Place that isn't a place, a door that is also the key"

Can't be bothered to write the entire desc, but the gist of it is the following:

Y VELORUM, Vaugh orbital
required explorer rank ELITE

I've got that mission posted in LTT 3607 at Smith Port.

Did I earn my tinfoil hat now?

e:

same mission desc in other systems with different target systems popping up all over the place

"Obfuscated in the outer rim"

Could this be somehow tied in with the UA mystery?

You are welcome to the tinfoil hat, but they have been done many times, with and without a UA. They are just a mission with a tinfoil hat description. :(

But we're talking about a bunch of people sitting around a UA watching it expire, right? I don't understand how this is different from the first UA I found, when I was busy in debug camera and accidentally let it expire which a bunch of people sitting around watching. There are videos of that happening. What is this test going add to our knowledge?

Great, if you are positive that no damage was done to the UA at all, and that there was no Warp signature to follow after it died, then we have exactly 0 leads to follow. :(

Guess you were away a few weeks ago when certain people were DEMANDING that this experiment be done on an existing UA, would have saved many pages.

There is circumstantial evidence that SSS Naval Convoy spawns in a system fall into (at least) 2 catagories.
a) Systems that spawn UA, HE Suits, Hafnium
b) Systems that spawn Antiquities and Painite (maybe a few others)
c) Systems that spawn neither a) or b)

After hunting in several Confirmed UA Systems I have never seen a Convoy with Antiquities or Painite
If someone spots something contrary, please feel free bust my myth, but please dont bust it on memory of previous hunts.

It doesnt help find a system to hunt, but might help you decided to look elsewhere.

I have seen hafnium and painite spawn SSS's in the same zone where UAs have been found, although I have always assumed that the hafnium convoys only spawned in areas where the UA was possible.

It does seem to keep coming up so if someone is willing to sacrifice their UA, then by all means...

I agree. It seems to be the same thing over again.
We actually have two recordings of the expireing UA.
Yours has excellent visuals.
I and I Redeyes has very good audio.

Surely not! I'm convinced that it was the spectacularly dramatic culmination of a deliciously Byzantine suicide pact for which I simply have no reasonable evidence for or in-game means to prove. You watch. Come Season 8, you'll see. (Sod it. Can't rep you, Derthek.)

So if I understand correctly, in season 8: 'Elite Dangerous: Time', you get to build your own time-machine from looted UAs and have to accept the mission to go back in time to kill the emperor to appease the Thargoid overlords?

New to ED and quite intrigued - and nowhere close to going after something that could bite back ;)

Three signals - universal references - triangulation :

Haven't been around much yet - do some of the stars make noises ?

Jes' me 0.02 cr ...

There was a lot of Pulsar Triangulation theory on the original thread. I dont think it ever came to much, Pulsars in ED just seem to be Neutron Stars. I have been to the only Pulsar I know of "Circinus Pulsar", it was disappointingly dull.
