I always try to watch/read stuff in their original language / form. There are also ebook readers with inline translators / dictionaries to look up words you don't know. Just select a word and you get popup with translation.

If you mean elite in general including frontier, go on ltf abandonware website and look for frontier elite 2 manual, in the same archive you ll find the gazeteer and stories of life on the frontier both in french+ the manual+the map... About the dark wheel now, well I don't even know if its been translated or not.

Well seems we had the same idea. I looked at all st episodes(99pourcent) in english, without any subtitle, and as a result I have a strange, geeky maybe, "vocabulary" now: eps relay, tricorder, deflector dish, ten forward, positronic,, tractor beam, beam me up scotty, make it so, shut up whesley, jeffries tube, phaser, photon torpedoe, transporter malfunction, live long and prosper... All very useful

I also learned my first dose of English through my hobbies (roleplaying games (MERP, Rolemaster, Runequest) and fantasy and sci-fi novels (translations into Finnish were rare back in the day) as well as TV, of course).
But, no, I'm not aware of any translations for the Dark Wheel or the upcoming fiction.

i forgot to mention a little software called lingoes, you can add many dictionaries to it. you can do just that on your computer, i use it since i started learning chinese but it's not less useful with english or other languages, actually i also use it for french sometimes.

Always do a reverse translate (send it back again) to check ..
eg1. forward;
English ; I am a cat
Traditional Chinese ; 我是一隻貓
eg.1 reverse;
Traditional Chinese ; 我是一隻貓
English ; I was a cat
Simplifying the original often preserves meaningful translation ..
And it doesn't always go wrong, but it is worth a check
eg2. "Chinese Whispers" is translated (google) "中國竊竊私語"
(Zhōngguó qièqiè sīyǔ ) = "Chinese Whispers"

the first translation is correct, the second is not... there is no indication of tense at all in 我是一隻貓, and by default it is "present".
i really dont understand how it could come up with a "was".
in chinese you cant change the verb(no tense, no conjugation), it has no tense, and there's nothing in the context to indicate that it's a past event : [I/wo/我][to be/shi/是][one/yi/一](animal "classifier"/zhi/隻)[cat/mao/貓]. By default it should be present tense.
Even from chinese to french it uses a past tense...
also google isnt always the best translator. on lingoes i can use google translate and a few others, youdao translation doesnt make that stupid mistake, but i'm sure it does some others if i try it further...

I have a recent quote for (Chinese) translations, at around euro150 per 1000 words, which is costly for a 20,000 word book ...
But even with a bad automatic translation service online, it's possible to get away with inaccuracy in algorythm, by editing original according ..
Maybe with ..."Now I am a cat"
This might mean strange English before translation, and in other contexts, but the translation (現在，我是一隻貓) conveys the intended meaning no problem.
I've done English-Finnish translations for about 30 euros per page (double spaced etc.) in the past.
But, 20,000 words is not a book, it is hardly a novella (also about the length of my story in the anthology). Regular books are at least 80'000 words or more.
So this makes 12,000 euros for the (perhaps extreme) example Chinese;
Even at half price it's a fair whack out of any profit margin, either for a printed book, or on the reduced price kindle version, with less overhead ..
Of course, if you can get FD behind the novella, there's a promo value in it for them.
