I have two tests to check, but will only seriously ask for test one as I have little right to ask for the other.

Will a UA bearer try this test for me please? Don't think it's been attempted.....looks over shoulder for Ratking....well even if it has, could someone retry it.......

Could a UA holder go to the nav panel whilst docked and see how many jumps it'd take to travel 50 LYs when set on quickest route.

I know this is a bit simple, but it's simple and not over thought, ok there's very little evidence for it being successful, but the search radius was 75 LYs for SS1 wasn't it? SS1 can't do that kind of mileage can it, to create such a search radius normally can it?

Oh if test doesn't prove surprising when docked, please try to jump 50LYs with FSD in open space and not in a wing, maybe towards a KGBFOAM type of star though.

If the test fails, well it's up to you if you wish to attempt test 2 and plough your ship into the nearest planet to the point where you initially stole the UA from. After all if the UA wants to be somewhere and maybe where you found it is a solid bet, easier than scouring the rest of the galaxy anyways. Test 2 is more hazardous and less fair to ask of you, so it's up to you if you try this illadvised but well meant test.
Okay first the jumps it'll take are dependent on system distance and jump range which mine is 21.53 ly which means that it takes 3 jumps to do it which I've just done though it's 50.55ly from me. So I'm struggling to see the point of jumping the 50ly....and why while not in a wing as that leave me exposed to pirating.....?

A lot of people are making a link to the Cerberus Plague. Are we ready to rule that out as being involved?

The FFE version of the Cerberus plage was called Sohailian fever. It was a mix of three rapidly mutating organisms.
It was made by the imperial navy, to spesificaly target humans and not androids.

Edit: it spread by accident in contaminated grain.

@Ratking15, @Wishblend, @RedWizzard and other UA finders/holders - please read this new idea... (haven't seen it elsewhere and I've read a lot!)

The devs encouraged us to "listen to them" - who says it is the UA itself we need to listen to?
The Universe is packed with sounds including planets. We can hear sounds from planets and stars on maps but also when we are close to them.

Did you guys try and fly as close as possible to the planet where the UA was at and listen to the planet?

My speculation is that the UA are a link to the upcoming planetary landing expansion. Maybe the planet next to the UA gives out sounds with clues in them? Maybe it is the planets we need to listen to?

@ Nijahat

In this clip you will hear chipping from two locations.

One is whilst travelling in hyperspace between a system, I have two in the clip (one near the beginning and the other at the end) -- (note it is quiet but it is there, starts around 33 seconds in).

The other is from the sun.

I don't know if I had a UA on board at this time but as I was hunting for one, I would say that I didn't have one.

May be that why they are so damn rare we been searching for months an probably only found what 20 or less UAs. At the rate they produce would need at least a year to get 50.

But (as I said) there is a cargo duplication bug that means that it's possible to replicate UAs so it only actually takes one. FD know the bug exists, so they'd be taking a big risk in having the UA trigger an effect that could be abused via that bug.

i was hoping somebody may have an idea based of of it. e.g. if we would know a old, abandonned thargoid stronghold, the UA could cure Thargoids in stasis or such. but I am not knowledgable enough about the lore to suggest a test :-(

We have pretty much taken one, or tried to take one, everywhere we thought there had been some sort of Thargoid presence in past games (Polaris, Quy, Merlin, Sol, Achenar, one or two other places I think as well that escape me at the moment, including a world that the Thargs were supposedly terraforming and several ammonia atmosphere worlds). There was a Thargoid shipwreck in the Pleiades I believe in a previous game (can't remember the planet), someone checked the system out but without a UA.

Edit: And there is no clear evidence yet that the UA is even Thargoid in origin.

unknown_artifact_audio_long.mp3 ( don't know from where i have this file - but it was linked somewhere :) )
Around 4:50+ ( problem is tat at this speed vlc loses position very often when you rewind position - so it can be some seconds before and after)
Make as slow as you can , VLC showed me 0.12 , put max bass , put double pass.

At some point you hear sound typical to some announcement , you can get at some bus or train station - (bad example : windows start sound) - and then you hear someone speaks.
Vlc is very bad to use it , but probably someone have better software , and more time to time it.

I was one of the first to ask those kind of destructive tests, back in the days, but I've always understood the reticence of the UA bearers.
For me the Plague is still the best lead we have.

The Heike tea didn't change anything: it is just a cure not the cause. And if I would be FD, I'd add a cure at some point, just to avoid the Plague to spread all over the Universe, while we were still finding a solution... ;)

I didn't propose a test, I just proposed they may be related.

This seems to bear a resemblance to old-school riddles; the more you think about it the more complex it becomes.

I realise I'm not posting anything to push us in the right direction, but it seems like this search has become really weird and abstract. I've been following it intently for a while and not posting.

If the conclusion has already been almost reached in the previous thread, then we should be scouring it and re-evaluating what we know, rather than looking for innovative new solutions (not that that's a bad idea).

I mean no disrespect, as I alluded to in my previous post. I am not an authority, just trying to lend an idiot brain to the cause.

1.) I want to reproduce the 8 / 12 SAP 8 tests from before, so we have a few more recordings, preferably recorded from different distances - hoping for at least 3 commanders present.
The point is to see if we can consistently reproduce the "clarification" effect.

As a side note, I will be using collectors and intend to keep all of them safe, to increase the time we can have them out in space, and repeat the test. I know that there's an issue sometimes when collectors die upon delivery with multiple commanders present - but they DO deliver the cargo, and I couldn't care less about limpets' lifetime in this situation.

2) Well, if there is interest in repeating the test, we can go to an unpopulated/anarchy system to avoid bounties when swatting the NPCs - but I doubt the "magic hero security service NPC" would spawn there anyway. Not that I'm concerned about bounties really. What I would like to see is if the non-duplicated UAs interact with each other in any way outside the ship, if we have 3 (or more) in an instance.
We could of course try having them in a single ship's hold, since we're all there.

3) Yeah, emphasis on non-duplicated. I'm not sure how that bug worked - I did see a video of it, and to me it looked like it could have been an intentional feature.... did we get confirmation that it was a bug, did it get fixed? (I faintly remember reading cargo duplication fixes in one of the patch notes, but that time I didn't know about this thread, or what it was... can someone confirm?)

I was also wondering about combining more of the same things together, hence the request for Hafnium. The reason is that the UA has 12 "ports" - maybe ejecting/holding just a few of these containers is not enough.

Using collector limpets can be slower depending on how you are with scooping and how many limpets you can send out at once.

The NPC's appear no matter where you are though it's not been tested if they do appear out of civilisation but I think I did recived the NPC's wanting cargo while in an Unpopulated system....

It was a bug and I have contacted frontier to report it which they did then said to try to avoid causing/doing it.

Maybe so. But why would that have ANY relation to Mass Effect, in any way, shape or form? Please do not try to link the two games. Mods, for the love of all that is holy, please help me out here.

Not sure how many retorts of yours I agree with, but it's probably all of them - had I been able to I'd have been saying exactly the same. Flat out of rep.

Test one is whilst docked hopefully or else in open space. Just trying to rule out that it's a FSD enhancer, that is that the UA could allow the bearer to travel in new ways and further than their normal solitary jump range. Your jump range with a UA might be say 75 LYs instead of 21.53 LYs in a solitary leap (not a sequential skim of jumps). Just plucked the 50 LYs as I believed it would be more than the ships normal single jump range, I realise that I wasn't clear that it wasn't a series of leaps. This is a simple idea from very little evidence I know, as it negates the lovely shape, sounds and emissions of the UA.

OK, so how does this bug work exactly? Is there a consensus amongst Canonn not to use it? This brings up a multitude of questions..... I thought it was fixed....

Why doesn't everyone who wants one has one already? Whey doesn't every destructive test is finished and done with? etc etc

Thx Wishblend... I'll get back to you if I get any other ideas.

At the moment I am exploring deep space at and beyond 600 AU away from stars... because that is at this distance the first LRA was found in the old Elite lore :)
So far UAs have only been found inside federal ships... I am hoping to find something floating around freely... maybe? :p

Hope you find one. That would answer one of the three big question:

- Where are they found?
- What is it?
- What can it do?

I've never tried to trigger the bug deliberately but it's happened accidentally often enough that I have a very good idea how. But I'm not going to detail it because it is an exploit. There is a consensus not to use it.

I use 5 collectors (5A / 3A controllers) it's fast. Really fast.

As a side note, can you guys access my videos? Is there any problem with the dropbox links?

https://www.dropbox.com/s/8mzglgolbt2f90b/UA_12HydrogenFuelTest.mp4?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/6rrylboyoltt6bq/UA_4PrototypeTechTest.mp4?dl=0

(I've put them in dropbox, so someone - Bitstorm? - can include this in their YT lists so we can have everything in one place, but let me know if it's a hassle and I start up a YT acc for them)

Ah, yeah pirate NPCs are common, but I have dealt every kind in my combat setup (which I have on at the moment) and there will be others around as well, so I'm not concerned. Not sure if you've met the magic security NPC, who drops in with you to every normal space instance ever, shoots at you without scanning, overrides your interdictions, so it's him and not the ship you 'dicted in normal space, follows you to a station and keeps shooting with impunity even when you're inside (doesn't come inside, just through the letterbox if he can get aim). Also keeps shooting at you when you're docked on the outside of an outpost. I thought you were worried about that guy :D

Ah, that kinda answers my prev quetsion about the bug... so there's a consensus and we're not duping them because FD asked us to play nice.

Thanks! OK then, painful search it is! :D
