As with most people, I have nothing to be afraid of in a video game. The only thing I ever stand to lose is the time playing them, and it's my choice to spend that time playing games instead of going out or riding my motorcycle or whatever. I disagree with motorcycle guilds too - they lead to real life pew-pew and territorial control, of the non-harmless pixel kind.
Well your're obviously afraid to answer a simple question: Why you dislike the idea and how it will impact your gameplay? Encountering problems with formulating your ideas into a solid argument?

Fine, I gave you the benefit of doubt, and as it seems I was right from the beginning. Nothing you say means or matters anything. It's just a luddite nostalgia-dad mantra.

Private groups completely segregate the guild from the rest of the players, which is why members of Mobius have a 1200 page thread going asking for an Open PvE game mode.

The people you are trying to protect are actually the people who would benefit the most from guilds. Mobius wouldn't have any problems at all in Open if they were united in one cohesive 11,000 man force.
Hmm, I am almost sure that majority of Mobius group are players like me. No need to unite and destroy game for others. I just want to get rid of those stupid PvPers and sometimes to have a nice chat with some Cmdr. I will meet and maybe join him for some time.

I don't claim to speak for Mobius in any way shape or form, but the reason he's got such a large group is because many people don't want to be united into a cohesive force, and actively avoid those who do by playing, urm, in Mobius.

If private groups don't satisfy guilds, the only reason that can be is that guilds don't want to interact with each other, they want to interact with others - otherwise private group would suit them perfectly.

10 thumbs down to guilds or whatever you want to call a persistent player-defined group.
Left guild oriented mmos to ditch that nonsense.

My gameplay won't be affected by guilds. I'll continue lone wolfing in Open for as long as I enjoy it. If guilds attempt to restrict my access or interfere with my game time - there are ways around that.

Yeah, David keeps saying it, but as mentioned, PowerPlay mimics guild-like functions, CG's mimic guild-like functions, Galnet mimics guild-like functions, etc... and we have more on the way. So either David needs to be updated on what the definition of a guild is like most of the naysayers in this thread or the Dev team needs to sit down and have a chat with him and explain that they've been putting all of the nasty bad guild features in the game anyways, that people are using them, and he needs to just bite the bullet.

.... or they simply continue as they are creating Guild-like functions inside NPC headed structures over which there is no direct player control (nor control over the membership of said structures).

And players continue to be dissatisfied with the half-finished, not everything that it could be feel that these aspects of the game have. There are plenty of complaints of this nature. Why not make it better?

You assume that you have to take any aggressive measures. I've been over this with Maynard, there's safety in numbers alone.

Some players - certainly. Other players - not so much....

Better for whom? (as "better" is subjective)

Improve the netcode, improve instancing, improve the missions, give us NPC wingmen, improve the missions, improve the variety, improve exploring, improve mining, improve the missions, improve combat, improve smuggling, crack down on cheats, crack down on combat logging.

Better for everyone!

No, better is not subjective. Better is a wholly objective state. Preferred is the word your thinking of.

A Ford Fiesta is objectively worse in every way than a Mercedes S-Class. That doesn't mean that someone can't subjectively prefer the Ford Fiesta because they like the blue color better.

Better mechanics are objectively better.

All sounds good - doesn't include Guilds!

:) think of it as the only answer you'll get.
That's enough of an answer to treat your words as a meaningless dog bark for sure.

It's hilarious how you supposedly grown men try to enter an argument with only passive agressive remarks and toy throwing at hand.

As with chat and wings, wich were shouted down by the same luddites, the gods of development will take care not to notice your wailing. Cheers.

We're not talking about something quite so simply compared - we're talking about the game without Guild features and the hypothetical inclusion of them. There's no simple measurement of difference here (unlike fuel consumption, top speed, acceleration), i.e. no definitive, objective measurement. We are talking about subjective impression.

A tale of sound and fury indeed.

People in Mobius group don't want to have anything to do with "open" PvP (outside of a conflict zone). Therefore they don't need to be united against others "Guilds" or whatever name it is used for a hostile group of players.

Now, that doesn't mean that some members of the Mobius private group wouldn't be interested in creating their own Guild within their "PvE" game (Mobius).

The in-sewer-ants is cheaper on the Ford. That's better for my beer token fund on a Friday night.

Sorry I'll get mi coat.
