If I remember correctly that was in the so bad it's good category of sci-fi... Battlestar Galactica and Firefly are much better uses of Netflix!

Chris Roberts thanks you, but isn't 'Wing Commander' the rival game to Elite made by Chris Roberts? And yes, the film is a bit cheesy lol

Personally I think ED =

Combat = BSG
Exploration = Dark Star (without the blowing stuff up bit)
Docking = 2001/10

FotN was pretty awesome. I was six when that came out and haven't seen it in years. I'm sure its as covered in Limburger as Wing Commander was if I were to watch it with my current adult eyes. :)

BSG (2003) is not on Netflix anymore :(

While my wife is happy about that, I am back to watching TNG during long super cruises.

Wing Commander the Movie was absolute rubbish! Sorry but the Kilrathi were nothing like they were in the game. If I were Chris Roberts I would have sued hollywood for even writing such tripe.

The games were good back in the day (owned all of them, 2 was my favourite) but so very linear (go to navpoint a, kill Kilrathi, go to nav point B and kill more Kilrathi). FE2 on the early PC's owned the WC series

Ha! I just watched that movie on Netflix last weekend as well and thought about posting a thread on it, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only crazy person on these threads. ;-)

While the movie was cheesy it got me hyped up about playing ED (anything to help stoke the imagination). So cheers to you for sharing. :D

Awww...Jenner, how can you love both Wing Commander and Privateer (my favorite as well) and not like the movie? I just don't understand that but then, I do loves me so good cheese, especially European cheese.

It is a terrible, terrible "movie", and took a big dump on my memories of the Wing Commander series.
