Ships Upgrade my ship

Hello Commanders,

actually I own a Cobra MK III with almost everything onboard I need (almost everything on highest class and A-rated). I want to have more hardpoints and a larger cargo space so I want to buy an ASP.

When is the right time to buy a new ship? Actually I own ~4 Millions of credits, my actual ship is worth ~12 Millions. The new ship will cost ~7 Millions. I want to sell my Cobra and everything inside it, will I get a higher price if I sell everythin seperately? So maybe I could sell everything and buy a ASP - not with everything inside I want to have, but with larger cargo space it will get quicker than with my Cobra.

Is this right? Or am I wrong? Do you think the 12 Mio. Cobra plus 4 Mio Credits will be enough to upgrade to an ASP?

Downgrade all your modules to the cheapest you can, then sell the cobra for the asp. You have a total worth of ~17m, and a well fit asp will eat into a large chunk of that.

Bonus points, do it in Lembava for the discount.

You can save about a million if you get it at a discount. Not sure how good the Lembava discount is, I do know Irkutsk station in the Alioth system (requires permit, easy to get) sells it at 20% off. I think it cost me about 20 million (ship included) to set her up for exploring initially. For a combat capable trader you're probably looking at some 25-27 million total. Mine's currently specced for bounty hunting and I think that's roughly how much it cost.

Depends on what type of Cargo Asp you're looking for. A local Cargo Asp (within about 20ly) setup for grinding a quick 120 tons of deliverables (you'll want to find a route that gives you at least 1000 credit profit per ton) will only run you around $10 million. This will be a mostly D rated Asp (B FSD, A DIST), with a 3A shield, a couple of A rated shield boosters, and a chaff with the rest loaded with cargo slots. This was my setup for a good while, and it's fairly quick at making money (over $1 million an hour, depending on route).

Now, if you want to go with a Rares Asp, you're looking at a bird with at least 50 tons of cargo, long legs (28+ly) and a solid scoop. Pretty much the above setup, but with an A FSD and a 6D scoop. This ship will run you about $13.5 million, and is the fastest rare runner in the game, well besides the Conda. There's several good rare-run charts available in the forum, so grab one of those (they will get you $1.4 million an hour), and prepare to do a lot of jumping and running.

If you want to pew-pew, sub out the cargo slots for a decent shield with a few banks, and add a few weapons of your choice. The Asp is an excellent tanker, and will make hunting fun for you. This setup will be your most expensive, as the ASP is one thirsty girl when it comes to powering everything, so be looking to spend around $16 million for a decent setup.

Good flying my friend.

You need to get allied with a faction called Alioth Independents. They are present in nearby systems, I did it in 78 Ursae Majoris. What I did was some bounty hunting in that system, turning in the bounties made me allied with the Independents quickly enough while making me some cash in the process. Of course, there are other ways to become allied with them as well, so the exact method is up to you - anything from selling cartographic data to doing missions for them would work, I just found bounty hunting easy, quick, profitable and fun.

Once you hit allied status, dock to a station in the system and check the bulletin board, there should be a courier mission available summoning you to Alioth. You will get your permit upon accepting the mission, then the mission will just require you to go to Alioth / Irkutsk station, a place you want to go anyway to pick up your shiny new Asp. Good luck and have fun, message me if you have further questions :)

I believe it's automatically given upon becoming a master with the empire.

Nope, Alioth is the Alliance capital, so that wouldn't work :) As Alliance has no ranks yet, all you need to do is become allied with the Alioth Independents, making this one of the easiest permits to get with the least amount of grinding. Becoming allied with the Alliance overall works as well, as that makes the Independents allied as well.

Good choice with the Asp they are the best ships in the game in my humble opinion.
If you do join the cult of the Asp beware of its appeal. It can be addictive.
Link to my explorer fit asp the 'Damocles' in my signature block if you are interested in a comparison, also a few other Asps in there to look at as well. Asp is a superb ship.

Currently on my vacation, on a non-Elite capable laptop, away from my beloved Asp parked at Alexander Dock. Sometimes, when it's quiet, I can still hear the rumbling sound of it's engines. Then I take my pills and the sound goes away. I think I'll start skipping meds.

LOL, rumbling of the engines... I always thought it sounded like an old prop aircraft that needed its blades feathered.

Hey guys,

I just made my way to Lembava where I can buy an ASP with 20% discount. First I sold everything inside my Cobra or made a downgrade of the modules to get a higher price. Everything worked fine except the thrusters (Class 4, Rating A). They are worth 1.4 Mio. Credits and I would like to have this money to upgrade my ASP, but I can't downgrade it. It says the module will exceed maximum mass. But everything I do I can't buy cheaper thrusters. How can I get it done?

get the cheapest thrusters where you don't get this message. you not gonna loose the money anyway, if you sell the whole ship, but 15%, so it's worth to try, but not critical.

discounts are given automatically in lembava. you see the discounted prizes already. happy shopping!
