I'm in HR 1185 currently, heading towards the BH. See if I get lucky today.
We just don't care about the puzzle, this is a lot more fun pretending we don't know![]()
Fair enough. But, what does a biscuit barrel have to do with the UA ?

Run with it.
It's almost as crazy as some of the other things we've been investigating up till now.
I'd just like to add - this current flippency of mine is brought to you by the Glenlivet 18 yr old. And is likely to continue until I am no longer able to operate my phone in the usual manner; and instead have to resort to using the tip of my nose, with said phone held in my numb, numb fingers
I think i have seen seven horned cow heads somwhere?

No probs. Thing is, I assume the audio designers are musos, and as such are more likely to use a musical reference as a code, than any other.
Just a thought.
You into the Glenlivet with Zoltan?
So - couple of questions. Probably a poll, really, but that'd be a new thread, and we only do that when we're on the verge of breaking the forum.
1) Is the Morse signal what makes a lone UA appear as an SSS?
2) Is it benign or malevolent?
For me it's Yes, and Benign.
I think the corrosive damage, apart from being a ready-made way to make them hard to move around, will be explained in-game as being a side effect of the sheer amount of energy produced by the UA (suggested by the distortion and the little lights that fly around it).
The Morse/SSS angle is weird, though, because it would imply that the UA wants to be found. Logical explanation for this is a distress call; but if you know Morse, and were in distress, you'd broadcast 'SOS'; not the name of the planet/moon/station you're nearest to, right?
Equally, the 'wild UA' doesn't exactly seem like it's in distress. It did when it was being dropped from a hold and its health was deteriorating, but we now know that's not its default position.
I wasn't taking the mickey out of you, you understand - being self-deprecating of the group as we've been till now
I suppose the biggest worry I have with this kind of explanation is that makes it a bit of a meta-puzzle instead of one firmly rooted in the ED universe; unless said music already had a firm basis in the ED universe. Even then - why would such an Artefact emit it?
It's also why I discouraged following the Nimoy angle - simply far too meta for my liking.
Very very happy to be wrong though![]()
I have a weaknes for Tallisker myself, but the Glen will do just fine.

It also implies it can move on its own, somehow. Otherwise how does it appear?
And just being pedantic, but SOS only came into use in 1905, so perhaps they learned Morse before that date, if it is some sort of escape pod?
Edit: And if it is an escape pod, would there not normally be other wreckage nearby? So the absence of that may help discount the escape pod theory.
1) No, it's the hole package. Scan, howl, Morse, purr, distortion and light cloud. It's a mes of signals.
