Space is a vacuum

Elite Dangerous is a shallow world at the moment . The people that say they still enjoy the game after learning and doing all the combinations ( Trade , Combat , mining , Powerplay ) are just role playing , using there Imaginations to fill the void in the game world . Frontier developments has been working on Horizons the last year. I think the empty void of a billion stars, needs a bit of filling first. The outside debug camera is a joke ! The system maps are crap , but these things are down the list of priorities (More Money First)
The expectations of games now are a lot higher than 30 years ago and I think a lot of Elite lovers are old *cough* timers. Elite is up against some stiff competition in the gaming market and make you own game up , is not going to wash it . Space is truly a vacuum in elite dangerous case.

It's a galaxy with 400 billion stars... What do you expect it to be filled with?

No point whining if you don't have any suggestions.

Plenty of us enjoy the way it is now.

You just took this post that you had on the bored thread and created a new thread for it?

Also, "modern games" consist of battlefield, cod, cs go, a variety of other first person shooters, they may be good games, but they certainly aren't "deep". I don't know what modern games you think have more depth than elite but I can't think of many.

Well the debug camera for one ,the attitude that it will do, that is good enough. Have you seen or played the witcher or gta 5.

It's a debug camera - don't tell me you are expecting to fly and control the ship with it? That argument has been done to death and thankfully FD did the right thing and gave us a camera great for taking pretty shots but not a lot else. ;)

The whole point of Elite is you are a single pilot, trying to make ends meet, with very little impact on the world around you. You view the world from your cockpit. There is no live action cam or 3rd person cam. That is the whole ethos of the game and I applaud FD for sticking to it, Makes it refreshingly different to the normal dirge out there.

No, it's not. Elite is actually very unique. I don't think it has any direct competitor. I can't think of a space game, existing or to be released, that has this kind of atmosphere and feature set to it.
So maybe the crowd of locusts who travel from game to game will leave, but those who actually like this specific kind of game will stay. Because there is nothing else like it out there.

As far as space games go, there isn't any competition currently available or even in the near future. As far as games in general go, the only thing elite doesn't have that they do is a set path that you must follow through a linear storyline which isn't what Elite is about.

Are you saying that it's a niche game for old timers?

What expectations do modern gamers have that old timers don't?
Modern games often provide more content than a player can do with one chr. or iteration. That is to say in most games you choose which accomplishments you wish to tackle with your chr. and then maybe do some different ones with a second or third chr. In ED you can do it all with your first chr on the first day of play.

Well said that man! +1 Rep.

Wut? I don't think so. Been playing for a year and still finding new stuff to do.

I can think of a lot, Skyrim, ESO, STO, GW2, Aion, Rift, even a lot of very old games have a lot more to do that ED, like AC, DAOC, etc.

I think a lot of the trouble with ED is that there is nothing you can do in the game that you can't do in the first starter areas of the galaxy. There is no real incentive to go farther out into the vastness of space because what is there is just more of the same. There should be items and resources you can gather farther out that are more valuable or are needed to craft more rare items and better ships. Even just different types of ships being available in different areas would be nice, ie. go out to a certain distant system to get a new ship type that is only available there. But they need a lot more ship models and a robust crafting system and ship customization and design to make it more interesting. And the game should have been released with ground missions and the ability to have on-foot ground combat and exploration.

Well seeing how I am 27 and play a variety of games including the ones I mentioned minus cod, no. What I am saying is that it is unique and doesn't fall in line with oher games. That is the point though, if I wanted to play a game that fell in line with the standard I would play something else. I just don't really see what you want elite to be. What is the competition you speak of? Did you want something that was more arcadey? You don't really specify, you just say it's not up to modern standards and feels empty. Empty compare to what? There are no other games that features the entire milky way galaxy.

Is this going to be the gist of your arguments from now on? Whenever anyone contradicts you, throw up the "old timers" remark?

If that's so then maybe you just lack imagination...maybe that's why you don't like Elite.

Do you just want to be spoon fed entertainment and trophies?
