Hi there guys.
I'm new to the party in terms of actually saying something, but I've been following for a while. I am not really firm in lore of the old games, I've been playing Wing Commander Privateer at the time (tomatoes are located to your left) and only with ED I have found my way into this universe.
Having that out of the way I want to throw a couple of things out there:
If I understand correctly the Thargoids are "located" in Witch Space, whatever exactly that may be, but apparently it's something we cannot access directly, but they can pull us into it from a hyperspace jump. Did I get that right? Because if that's the case, and the source of the UAs are black holes (which, as I understand, is far from established, but let's roll with it for a moment), then the source of the UAs are unlikely to be the Thargoids, as they don't appear to require black holes in order to be able to access our galaxy.
Now for the whole premise of something coming out of a black hole: There's a theory about pocket universes that spawn inside a black hole. Also, we don't know what's inside a black hole. FWIW it could contain another universe, or be a connection to one. Now certainly some of you may think "But these things don't even allow light to escape.", which is true, but just have a look at your speedometer when doing a hyperspace jump. You'll notice that it's gonna be over 9000 (sorry, but it's true) c. That means at this point you are travelling at a speed that's well beyond the speed of light and would therefore allow you to escape from at least some places where light will be trapped.
Remember, the event horizon of a black hole is only the event horizon for light, or stuff at the speed of light. The individual event horizon depends on speed. If you are slower than light your event horizon, your point of no return, will be farther away from the black hole than the event horizon that you see, light's event horizon. On the other hand, if you are faster, than your event horizon will be inside the boundaries set by light's event horizon.
Somebody came around with the idea of dropping a UA into a black hole. I think the best way to test this would be flying up to a black hole until you hit the exclusion zone, do a 180, go in reverrse until you hit the exclusion zone again, and then drop the UA. I don't think you'll be able to get the UA closer to a black hole any other way.
Finally an idea on what the UA might be. It's pretty simple, as it's been stated there's been some overthinking going on, and because of this simplicity I think it would be pretty silly if that would really be the solution, but ...
Could the UA simply point to Horizons? You guys have established that the UA kinda looks like a scarab in different stages of development. There's this scarab god system and it has a station called Very Horizons. Most of the free floating UAs have been found near black holes. And as discussed above, black holes have an event horizon. So, could it be that the UA is simply telling us "Hey, there's an expansion coming, and it's name is Horizons.", which would also fit in with the message that the secret will unlock, regardless of our success to find the answer to the riddle.
I know that this sounds silly, but I figured I'd throw it out there anyway.
Now, coming to an end, I would like to extend an offer, despite having reasonable doubts concerning possible success: I am currently on my way to the core, unrelated to this investigation. It's still gonna take a while, I've still got a good 20 kly ahead of me, but I would offer 2 hours of sitting duck around Sagittarius A*, plus another 2 hours at the Great Annihilator, if you guys think it's worth a shot, or if somebody by then manages to find a UA around another black hole.
Fly safe, Commanders!
