crab nebula - so near yet so far!

A few weeks ago I set off on a little jolly to Barnard's loop in my Cobra ( picnic and beers on board.. ). When I got there I rashly decided to keep going to the crab nebula ( I probably had a bit too much of the beer) and finally arrived about 50ly away last night, only to find no route through with my limited jump range ( around 23 ly ). Presumably a ship with a longer range could make it - has anyone been there? Anyway here's a pic of a nice little water world with the crab tantalisingly in the background....

Sorry to hear that commander. I'm guessing burning up a little fuel to lighten the tank won't solve the problem, right? ....Oh and also, you don't actually have beer in the cargo hold...do you? :D

Think you need about a 35+ Ly jump range. If it makes you feel better it is possible to reach:

I entered it from above on my run but it is quite cut off no matter which way you approach...

I'll be honest I couldn't remember my Anacondas jump range, I think it was about 38Ly but I also didn't remember it being too stressful so I guestimated about 35 :p
Was 32Ly pretty tight on certain jumps or did you make it there easily enough?
As you said, and if I remember correctly, it forced the approach from above. There's a clear system path towards it with scoopable stars. Once you find that, it's clear sailing all the way.

But it has been a while ... and I am getting older ... so ...

I've been to the Crab nebula with ~26ly jump range. If 23ly isn't enough then it's not far off - there was a single route in and out, I had to back track through about 4 systems on the way back out before it opened up paths to places I'd not been before again. I also had the route planner insisting it was impossible until I got within a couple of hundred light years.

Hah. No idea it was so hard to get to, but now that I know it I have to go there.

Maybe it's easier if you go there sideways? Just sayin'..

Hmm interesting.... I do have some fuel limpets in the hold, maybe if I lose those and go in with a half tank I might make it... Otherwise I guess it's time to head back and get something with a longer jump range.

If I do manage to get there in the cobra I'll post back here, in the meantime thanks everyone for all your comments!

Thanks OP. It was a destination but my 33 jump range isn't enough. repped.

33ly is plenty, now I'm back in game to check my range with full tanks is 25.04 (26.53 on fumes).

Look behind this cut for the last 50 systems I passed through to get there and you should be able to get there easily enough.

Well I jettisoned the fuel limpets and made it in - my maximum jump range without the 8 ton of limpets is 25.39 ( 24 with a full tank). Here's a selfie on the edge of the nebula next to yet another water world ( they seem to be really common round here for some reason). The crab pulsar system itself is pretty weird and a bit freaky.... I didn't hang around there very long!

Shame to have to lose the limpets but great to have made it!
