Sorry if this is already posted...

Has anyone (including developer) put together a flight manual yet?
I know the controls appear as hints before each section, but has this been collated anywhere yet?

thanks

Ok here's a noob question, when you deploy the heat sink, what exactly does it do for your ship?

Your ship builds up heat. Under normal operation it's not an issue, but there are times where you wish to remain undedected. Removing your heat reduces the size of your profile to scanners, and so, dumping heat can keep you hidden for longer. Ironically, the heat of the heat sink is one of the most visible items on the radar, so you have to choose your moments wisely if you plan on stalking anyone.

I believe one of the devs mentioned that they were also planning to have heat sink ejection disperse heat from weapons. Or did I imagine this?

T.j. - could you pop "spoiler" tags around the pictures please? They are a tad big and take ages to load when your broadband conenction is essentially some wet string with iron filings in it.

What exactly is the 'run silent' for? When I'm running cold I shut engines/shields/cargo/power distribution off and wait for the heat to dissipate. Then, I turn engines/cargo and PD back on and control heat.
The 'run silent' generates heat so I'm not sure what the silent means if it doesn't mean cold. I have the feeling silent mode also requires heat sink ejections.

They are a bit large.

Hopefully that should help. :)

Running silent retains heat internally, closing your vents, reducing your radar signature. The heat build up over time damages your ship unless you eject heat sinks or re-open the vents.

Thanks Noodle!
Ok, so when I see the heat building in silent mode, it doesn't mean I'm illuminated to other ships. Obviously, I have to vent that heat before my ship melts.
I'll try it out later in MP. :)

Yeah, quite the opposite. The more the heat is building up internally, the less heat you're emitting externally for other ships to see. There's an indicator on the HUD that shows your heat signature - flatter the better.

yeah spoiler tags ... cause, you know, smaller images wouldn't be helpful
(tongue in cheek and not nasty ... love you really T.J. (aims lazors))

*Ducks from lazors* :D

Problem is they are the ones produced by FD and on their server. and as I tried before if you reduce them or try to print them out the smaller text blurres out, well they did for me anyway.

Unlawful discharge of weapon is not permitted. Alien, you now have a bounty of ¢150 to Pay.

:p

To the point of images: one way you may be able to alleviate the problem is to use IMG tags like this:

Code:
[ URL="your/source/image.ext"][IMG WIDTH=width in pixels HEIGHT=height in pixels]your/source/image.ext[/IMG][/ URL]
I don't know if this is the correct syntax, as this is from memory, but it will make a resized image that is clickable and links to the original.

There are also some spaces in the URL tags that need to be removed. I would have done it, but the forum editor turned it into a link that led nowhere.

Also note that not all forums have BBCode implemented, thus do not support resizing. Some may support HTML tags, but that's at the discretion of the forum admin.

Just a quick query on keyboard controls. I've not played the game yet as I am saving up for a decent PC but when I do, I was wondering if we'll be able to customise keyboard controls? I got very used to the original layout from the old game and could easily set a lot of the new options to the number pad and other keys to the right of my keyboard and keep the original format on the main part of the keyboard. Just a thought then but will this be an option?

I did a Cockpit / Systems guide a while ago - have a look at that, it should help :)

Yes you can re-bind keys in the control options to the various actions.
