Community Event / Creation LAVE RADIO - A podcast about Elite Dangerous

Hi Darret,
Thanks for jotting your thoughts down and challenging points raised on the show, we never profess that our opinion is anything other than opinion, so it is great to have alternative opinions given to us to represent and draw upon.

Thank you for your points and hopefully we can bring these up on next weeks show and give them an airing and of course the crew a chance to answer your points directly and agree or disagree.

All the best

Thank you Sir. Very much enjoy the show, and even when I disagree, it's great fun to do so.

I'd have put down more of the points that I thought were spot on, but that would have taken up too much room.

Regarding the comments on the show about CQC not working on Xbox, I'm sticking to my crazy view expressed a few times already - there is a big surprise announcement coming regarding CQC connectivity..... (not the whole game just CQC).

Clues
- Microsoft are heavily pushing Windows 10 and Xbox as parts of the same system - the equipment you're using shouldn't matter any more in the long term.
- CQC was announced as an Xbox timed exclusive, and then they mysteriously changed their mind and made it a simultaneous release. Why?

Of course I may be completely wrong, but it makes sense to me.

I don't understand.... so you think the Xbox console will become a PC?

I was thinking that in CQC only, Xbox players and PC players will be able to fight against each other, or at least that's what they have been trying to get working.

However today's dev update which I've just seen seems to shoot this theory down - saying that the matchmaking will be working separately between PC and Xbox. That's unless the matchmaking is going to be somehow "compatible" for later use in cross play.

Yeah its exciting, I was being deliberately stupid earlier :D

I did kinda think it might've been possible for the PC lot and the XBox lot to fight together in CQCC, but I do have to admit a selfish thought that with the networking problems of the Xbox version, I'm glad that the PC patches can come in quicker.

Yeah Alec,
We as a crew talked about a lot of different kickstarters and we follow a lot of them, the best of the rest so far is Chaos Reborn, and Allen Stroud and Chris Jarvis have managed to get involved in the creative side of the game.

Tonight on Lave Radio, the team steers the ship into dark space,

We hope to twitch some CQC content, this may or may not work, depends if we can get into the game.

So join us at our live radio stream or our twitch stream, http://laveradio.com/live or http://twitch.tv/laveradio.

We will be happy to have your company.

Now what are we discussing tonight, well we know the update is due this week at some point, so it may land later or not.. we'll keep an eye out..

So we're having a re-cap of the topics from last week, Is the gameplay in ED deep enough? How can we improve the social aspects of the game?

Then we will go on to discuss whether it should be renamed to Elite : Nottooscary rather than Dangerous? Is it Dangerous enough?

Then we would like to squeeze in a chat about kickstarters, to see if they are worth the risk to back? Given recent news stories and find out what kind of experiences have been had.

So your thoughts and questions please... Tweet us, or comment here and we'll try to answer on the show... Do you think Elite Dangerous is too hard? or Too Easy?
Have you been disappointed by a kickstarter campaign, what was its main failing? Communication? Value for your pledge? What is your longest outstanding kickstarter, will it ever complete?

Drop us a comments please and see you tonight at 8:30pm BST

On a secondry note, IF you are an XBOX one player, please join us at 8:30 to try to get a few CQC matches going... Let us know if you will be there and we will try to see if its really just a case of not enough players waiting long enough.

We still have some Kickstarters outstanding - Chronicles springs to mind. The "Elite Archives" project looks like it will deliver on time [at least in e-book format] at Fantasticon.

The question about whether Elite: Dangerous is too easy or difficult feels irrelevant. I recently downgraded to an Asp. I missed the view out of the cockpit. I now realise that I'm not as good a pilot as I thought I was when NPC Vultures have now become more of a danger. I was out Supercruising along looking for bounties to interdict when I saw a Python. I was thinking of snaring it until I saw it had a wing of Vultures. I thought better of it. How can a game be too difficult or too easy if it's the player that decides which fights to pick? The weakest of pilots can go out in a Python to mow down Harmless NPC Sidewinders. The strongest can jump in a Sidewinder, go OPEN and tell Elite commanders in their Anacondas exactly what he thinks of their mothers.

If a new player doesn't realise he has an option to pick which missions to go for, to pick what targets to hit, and to run away from battles he can't win then that's a failing of the game to provide the information. I'd already been playing the game for a while when they introduced the interdiction system. I can't imagine how it must feel to be new to the game and get snared for the first time. Running from interdictions should definitely be part of the tutorial.

You asked on the show if there was anything we'd like to see in CQCC. At the time I said NPC bots. Now that I've had a chance to play the game I came up with a good one. Anyone who played QuakeWorld will remember Rocket Arena. Anyone who played Unreal Tournament will remember InstaGib. What we need is everyone in the same level-playing-fileld fighter, each with a super-ridiculously overpowered weapon. They should have a mode called "Off The Rails!"

I think they've been very busy with all the broadcasts for the Hutton CG - you'll have to download those in the meantime. Hopefully they will catch up soon.

What are those and where do you find them? I like listening to the podcast but it's annoyingly infrequent!

Both are currently being tagged, I have to apologise for the audio quality in episode 76, we do endeavour to get episodes out timely and in order, and with the obvious 'distraction' this week I have struggled to get the time to get to these..

BUT tonight BOTH will be up..

I had the files semi-ready yesterday but had run out of time before the Convoy set off to get them uploaded.. right will be getting the laveradio page and here with details updates SOON
ie got to run to shops, will do it on my return.

We do the show live EVERY Tuesday night, which is quite frequent really, and the podcast usually comes out shortly after... again quite frequent :D just to put my tongue out in your direction and blow a raspberry... tis all.

Delays this week are indeed due to the hutton mug goal!..
