General / Off-Topic I REFUSE to Buy Microsoft, BUT I will buy anything you make for Mac or expecially PS4

Finally, Macs are gaining more and more popularity and Windows is hemmoraging market share to Macs. They are more stable, better waranty, not prone to catch viruses and generalyl better platform as they are built on BSD Unix. More and more the common platform of younger people is a Mac and all the stores are absolutely bursting with mac users. I would heavily encourage FD to not just support the mac but go to effort to make sure Mac users feel welcome.

That's just your own opinion and has nothing to do with actual facts. I love how people think all what they say _must_ be true when they add the phrase "i'm a software engineer". Please stop that. You're not right.

Apple has proven in the last years that they don't care about high quality software development at all. All they want is bling bling and much sales. E.g. iOS doesn't delete browser history since 8.1 - still not fixed :) must be hard to fix that!

hung onto my Risc PC till my fingers were bleeding when i bowed to the inevitable. also had a pathological hatred of all things microsoft but now take windows for granted. at least it doesnt get in the way of what i wanted to do like it used to. a good operating system should not draw attention to itself imo. apart from removing my guest account with lots of the families important stuff, i find 10 fairly tolerable

hey op, I´d rather not spend a dime on apple elitist, exclusive, uncustomizable products. Actually I never, ever have and I´m very proud of my custom pc build, that I can improve with new hardware as and when I please

I'm waiting for the inevitable buy a PC devolution that these sort of threads always end on, for one PCs are nice but they are not the be or end all yes Mac are also nice but they are just money making machines for apple. For me personally I use what's best at the time not sticking to any platform, PCs have nice games but you pay for decent hardware to run em on this is where consoles will always have a edge the hardware is all the same so easier to develop on.

I have a Mac, a android phone and tablet. Also some laptops but nothing at present that can run ED as my PC blew up, do I miss ED not really as I have started playing Discovery Freelancer again which fills the space exploration and shooty box much better at present than ED does.

As a newbie to this game, I noticed that the expansion pack that I was set to pre order is PC only. I hate to say it but I simply WONT buy any Microsoft Windows oriented products. First of all I cant stand their software and their pro virus infection stance (which arises from their insistence on making everything transparently scriptable). Anyone doing any banking on a Windows machine is on their hands and knees begging to be a victim of identity theft.Second of all, I dont have a microsoft oriented computer. I Am a Principal Software Engineer and I dont even use Microsoft at work and I have no intention of changing that.

This seems like a very odd statement, pro virus infection stance? if you are a software engineer you should know that there are mac virus' out there and those few there are, are significantly more infectious and since people just believe mac doesn't get virus often hit significantly harder? the main reason there are only limited mac virus' is the limited mac usage, not because any OS is 'better' then any other OS.
Windows has an enormous amount more virus because it is used significantly more and has a significantly broader scope then Mac computers have had for a long time? Having a Mac doesn't magically mean you will avoid virus' it just means there are fewer existing there currently?

Getting angry at Frontier and them not able to release a Mac version is just weird, because again you should know that Mac has yet to update so that the features needed for horizon actually are on the Mac. Vulkan should arrive whenever it does and I am sure that frontier will then be able to release a mac version.

I will gladly admit I do not know if Mac is gaining any grounds on OS side, they seem to have been around 4% ish for quite a while. Though at the very least more gamers are appearing from the Mac's as more games become able to run on Mac

On the deal with Microsoft, I do believe frontier has already stated they are aiming for all consoles so it is likely in the works, I wouldn't be too surprised if it arrived with or a bit after horizon.

But to say Mac's are better, and that Windows is haemorrhaging market share to them seems odd.

Stability/virus issues are mostly user caused, not windows, if the same kind of users used Mac it would also cause stability issues. Using "but they cannot install most of the stuff that causes instability on Mac" does not mean Mac is more stable, it just means you are denying people the ability to install 'shiny' stuff, and if more Mac's is gaining ground then more shiny stuff and virus' will begin to emerge.

Like windows or not, Windows is clearly the most diverse and flexible of the two operating systems, offering people freedom to tinker with most everything in it rather easily, this gives possible risks yes, but also freedom.
Mac is more closed and limited, and as such, while it means a possible increased security in the short term, once black hats see enough mac users to warrant making stuff that will affect Mac's, Mac users will most definitely find the need for anti virus and such.

So yeah, your post seems odd, to me, maybe its just me, and being the internet you could claim to be anyone and such. But it seems almost like an irrational hatred towards Windows. Personally I use whatever OS suits the need best. Need biggest compatibility and flexibility and gaming? windows. Need a specific task, server or similar that needs to be on 24/7. Linux. So yeah, I don't really use Mac's myself though I have used them, and I just don't see what all the praise they get is about, it seems, without meaning offence. That companies just buy into Apple's marketing, and that since people need to use said software that only exists for Mac's they get Mac's?, but there are almost always alternatives on other OS's that is just as good.

Use what you want, for what you want, but come on, don't get upset that others do not do the same? and that when what you like has limitations that affect things such as in this case, horizon.

I refuse to buy any Ferrari product. I've had enough of their extortionate servicing costs, high fuel consumption and poor visibility.
.
I demand that Ford make a Ferrari 458 because I like the Ford brand and want a Ferrari 458.
.
:)
.
Seriously though, I thought we were past the whole Mac vs PC and MS (or M$ if you want to show your bias) hate?
.
Frankly I am amazed at how W10 (and the versions before) is able to run on such a wide variety of hardware configurations. Macs have an easy time as Apple control both the hardware and the OS, making it far easier to write stable software.
.
The fact I haven't seen a BSOD since W7 despite running all sorts of odd hardware configurations is pretty amazing.

There are lots of people with more money than common sense, you're right. :)

I got a Mac because I develop for iPhone, and Apple have very effectively closed down development to require Xcode on Mac OS X. But after adjusting, I found that I liked the environment - a lot - and that the hardware was extremely well designed. My company has had a significant decline in hardware failure since moving from PCs to Macs (but maybe our previous mistake was to use Dell). I've used UNIX machines for 24 years, and OS X's UNIX underpinnings means that pretty much any command line-based tool I want to install I could do so (don't talk to me about Cygwin!).

But that's just my experience. Mac OS for me is just as valid as a desktop environment as Windows. It's a considered opinion. But as I said earlier, I don't *expect* FD to continue developing ED for Mac if it's not economic to do so.

However, that being said I love your Product so far. I would happily puchase all expansions, all products on Mac OS X but would even more prefer them on PS4.

I know there is an exclusive agreement with Microsoft on the XBox one, I have many friends in the gaming industry here in Austin and used to work for EA myself so I understand these things. However, the XBox one is an inferior platform to the PS4 so I would encourage FD to release a PS4 build the day after that agreement expires.

Anyway thats all I have to say.

Back to shooting ...... rather getting blown up. Hopefully I will get the hang of this soon.

Mac Sucks....period

By the way, since the OP hasn't replied at all, he was obviously doing a good job a trolling, and we've all piled in! Maybe we should stop?

The latest Steam hardware survey (hopefully not a bad option):
Windows: 95.76%
Mac OS: 3.22%
Linux: 0.92%

It'll be interesting to see if Steam Machines change those numbers over time.

Is this a joke thread? I think it belongs in the comedy section (which we don't have yet). I love windows, have always loved windows and always will. I strongly dislike Apple and always will. Brand loyalty is stupid and the fact that this thread rustled my jimmies is also stupid.
