General / Off-Topic Why are people so angry?

I would have thought that a space sim makes people all happy and trippy - a bit like 2001: ASO made people. Instead it seems like everyone here is out to have an argument! Excuse me while I fly into a star.

P.S: I think it's good to post suggestions. I think it's bad to tell people their suggestions are trash without telling them why.

P.P.: That PS wasn't an invitation for an argument. I want to be a nice guy.

Not you, nor anyone specific. Just the heat across this forum makes me think people have been fuel scooping for too long.

I believe it's because one side is shouting a lot, while the other has it's head in the sand. And the powers that be are in the middle, doing nothing but their own thing. I fear it will only get worse before it gets any better. :(

How can I make this point without coming across as overly argumentative... :)

On this thread, you equate "heat" (i.e. passionate argument) with madness. On that other thread, just half an hour ago, you defended people here getting "excited", "passionate", "frustrated" and "worried". So you're apparently both pro- and anti-argument!

You might want to check the contents of your own fuel scoop, there, chief ;)

That may actually be true :D

The thing is Frontier has had a very open development process because of their kickstarter - involving the backers very closely in their planning process when gathering ideas on how to approach this and what people want.
Now they are full steam ahead in what looks like a decade long ongoing development of the game and obviously spend a little less time on communication than in the early planning phase (for all I know those plans are the go to reference for everything they do - but they have to take things one update at a time).
Involved backers are obviously very strongly attached to this (and others who played previous instalments - possibly the very first elite) - and some are growing impatient with their most looked forward features still not implemented(/"properly") while other features broadening the basis of the game get attention.

Well hey, think of it for a second. When would you come onto the forums? For many it's when they A) Can't play, B) are doing something else, or C) There's something gone wrong.

2 out of 3 of those things are not happy circumstances. So of course you will have upset people. Most of the very happy people are usually happily playing the game. However, as far as games go. I would counter to say that this is a vergood community full of people who genuinely want to help others.

Well, one way you could have avoided coming across as overly argumentative would be to have not included the quip at the end of your reply, but that's by the by.

simply put, passion and frustration for something shouldn't = arguments.

He's right though.

Whether you are aware of it or not. You are spilling oil on the fire in many cases.

Perfect analogy. I think it's mainly due to people lacking in the imaginative area, not knowing "what to do" in-game. For some of us there's TONS to do, for others however they see it surface only. On the surface there's Trading, bounty hunting or mission running. In the end they think only about money instead of adventure and thus they end with trading and get bored with the game.

Right now it's a limbo point, the breaking point really. The game's been out for almost a year, full release not counting beta, and there's hasn't been much change in anything added. It's stagnant. The calm before the storm.

To solve this we have Horizon's, CQC and a few other added content as well coming our way. But is it too little too late?

People are too used to games that, whatever activity they take part in, they get rewarded well. Take Eve for example, mining in Eve is highly rewarding that even a Trial player can make their first 10million in a day or so. Elite Dangerous is not like that, it requires people to actually WORK to get what they want. Thus mining in ED, while profitable late-game, isn't something a new player can get behind for money making.

So they either ask on the forums or google and find that either bounty hunting or trading is the money maker. Now a new player goes bounty hunting and makes a few hundred thousand with easy missions, but the money isn't fast enough for them. So they spend their newly accumulated wealth on a ship with a big cargo hold and starts trading, making a decent profit. But trading isn't for everyone, I've tried and nearly fell asleep.

So the new player that isn't happy with slow monetary gain takes to the forums to complain about how the game should be changed, or how the game sucks.

Patience is a virtue, especially in a game where it, to steal a Dark Souls saying, takes time to "Git Gud".

For one thing, my next-door neighbour has decided to hang wind chimes in her garden - four bloody sets of them!

That was beautiful. Thank you for the insight

My take

Today people have to be politically correct and their freedom of speech is often constrained. In addition people tend to hold their tongue IRL when face to face with a real person, especially anyone bigger than themselves.

Here, it's just letters on a screen.

Say ANYTHING you want within the bounds of the forum rules, and there are no consequences.

You can be just as big a jerk as you want to be.

I do it all the time.

I used to be angry, but maintaining it in the face of ignorance was tiring, so now I've become disillusioned and have gone off to play something else till things improve here.
