So hum, stupid thought here, not certain it has been done before. Did people try to drop the UA in those pristine belts that might contain hafnium ? See what happens ?

hafnium is not mineable in ED. In RL, they are extracted from rutile and ilmenite. One astral body which has ilmenite in droves that I can remember off the top of my head is the moon.

not sure how that relates to UA tbh.

Well, from a normal ship, you only get the 'scan detected' notification if a cargo scan or a kill warrant scan is performed. As I doubt the UA is a bounty hunter, a cargo scan seems logical.

Might be interesting, if you eject the UA between commanders, that it does a quick cargo scan.
And it then launches hatch breaker limpets to climb into the cargo hold that has the yummiest cargo. ;)

Sorry if I seem to be out of the loop, but I always read the UA in beta points at Merope. But where does it point once in the System? Is there maybe something like the Voyagers that can be found?

I am still close to the Pleiades in 1.3 and will head there as soon as 1.4 hits. Untill then I don't think I can do very much. I'd love to be able to park the UA and switch to another ship for now.

It points to the star.

Video if u wanna see.

And that video is pretty conclusive because Ratking15 checks the far side of the star as well.

I'm taking a break from direct participation in UA matters for a few weeks and heading for the Outer Rim with what's left of 1.3. I will return, but I don't have beta access or lifetime pass or whatever. I just play each update as it comes out.

Thanks, I didn't have the time to watch all the videos - I manly rely on the texts provided here.

It's true. It points right into the middle of the star. If there is anything to be found elsewhere in the Merope system, we have to find it 'manually'.

Merope has been thoroughly scanned. If there is something 'special' there, it will be hard to find.

Personally I am intrigued by the twin moons that orbit Merope 1. They remind me of the 'eyes' of the Bull markings

Signal sources, rings and asteroid belt should probably be swarmed with explorers. Both in 1.3 and beta.

No harm in searching without an UA. It gives us that don't have one a chance to contribute a little :)

I bring a mining laser to test rocks for funny bits.

So far I have found nothing, as usual :(

Hmmm maybe an type 9 with a cargo hold of every (common) commodity should be in it and we'll see what it reacts to.....but don't forget the tea :p

Thank I tried to eliminate everything there instead of needing more trips and such. Also the same for me with the break except I'm doing cqc and getting a taste of elite once again btw it's nearly the point of where I'vehad a UA for 5 months yay?

I've spent six hours in various Hyades, HR 1135 and thereabouts. Nothing of interest. Few SSS and just pirates. Other signal sources, just usual stuff. Going to The big M then selling scan data before I get vaporised by pirates. Honestly how do you guys do it?

Found nothing, nothing I tell you......even started talking to the wisps, which are just reflections on my canopy. Five or so hours, OK so I've got no staying power.

Another idea, that came to me. What if Merope is only one of several systems the UA reacts to? Maybe, if you are far enough away from it, the direction of the UA changes and it will point to another system. We should definitely test that too.

More or less my plan as well. As soon as we are 1 week out from 1.4 deployment I will go back and find another UA.

In the mean time I have re-joined PP, as ALD this time, who I hate. I plan to do nothing constructive and actively 5th column whilst milking the Empire easy mode 'free gold' situation she gets for a week or two.

Ok so it points to the star? What is the point of that? Surely whoever made it did not design it to do just that. Think about it. I create a space faring thing that has one purpose.... to travel space and point to 1 particular star in one particular system. Why? That makes no sense whatsoever. The inventor of these things did so to make an advanced space compass that points true Merope.

I am not falling for it. I can understand if it was trying to track something else down that the creator lost in the past. Like a celestial sniffer dog. Or if I was an alien race that needed a certain kind of star for a fuel source, but there are heaps of this kind of star out there. Something smells wrong about this.

If this is true and thats what this UA does then this darn thing is a scout drone. And that means SOMETHING is following or tracking it. Why would the Thargoids need to do that. We know that they already know about this region and its stars.

Oh crap...... SOMETHING is looking for the darn Thargoids and using us to find them.

Now that makes sense. This is the last known region of the Thargoids since they disappeared. We are pawns in someone's scheme. Seriously folks this is really something we need to consider. Either a covert group in the Empire/Federation group is using us or..... its another race. If they were looking for mankind then they would have already appeared but the far more elusive Thargoids are their target then if it was me, I would use the species that last saw them to find them again for me. Whoever it is they now know where the Thargoids were last seen.

And we led them there.

But how come it already seems to know where it wants to go. If that is the update then somewhere during all the tests it sensed the system it wanted and now its to late. Now they all know where to point.

Tinfoil hat carefully glued to head.

To add to my theory, that would mean this UA has been taking samples of all the places its been. The blue fairy looking things and the gases, then transmitting its findings back to the receiver with results = ....... in system such and such = not here. Exactly the same as any research probe we would send out ourselves. So simple that that is what mankind is doing today with Mars rovers and the like. We want to know what's there and transmit that data back to us because its easier than going there ourselves.

From what I remember there are two types of discovery in space. Fixed and Random. Random is what I'm using to hunt UA in HR 1185, just sitting back and letting *SS come to me. Fixed SS discoveries need a player to approach with 1kLy from the interest. Might be worth doing a slow loop around planets at 1kLy. I'd recommend doing it in 1.3 tho. I'm not convinced this kind of plot movement would be live in 1.4

All possibilities. however it could just as easily be a test. Say, the Dark Wheel make these things and intentionally try to make them look alien. They then go scatter them around the Pleiades and sit back and see what happens.

- Do the Feds, Empire, Alliance react? If so how?
- Who goes looking for them?
- What do they do when they find them?
- Can they work out the puzzle?
- Would they make good agents if approached?

Something like the Cicada 3301 puzzles that popped up a few years back (Google it).

Just saying:
There could be something in Merope similar to the Voyagers: you can see it only if you approach it 1000ls.
I think that the UA is capable of givin us some hints about its location, once deployed in Merope.

We should listen again to the Purrs and chittering, to see if there is a scheme now. In Merope. To find some hidden object.

Good point however the hints that FD have given us is that this is something meant for all CMDRS. Why would they have a mystery that only a handful of players would get and then move the story on. Do not get me wrong, I am not saying you are wrong at all, just that it seems rather cruel to set up a scenario that would only involve a few CMDRS smart enough to get it, so that eventually others just wont bother.

Funny you should say that, I am there having a good hard look around thanks to your efforts Rizal72. I know a few others are too. Hopefully we may stumble across something. :D

OkOk I should leave it and go? At Merope star, slowly scooping, then SSS pops up. I take heat damage and withdraw. It's 5.97 LS in front of me, fixed. I leave it yes?

Got to .49LS before withdrawing.

It's 8 LS from surface half way down on star.
