So you want to play in Open, eh?

What can I say? I want big fights...a squadron of CODE Eagles harassing a defending Annie, Pythons trading blows (and SCBs, but that's for another thread!)...being able as the force commander to fly above the battle and organise flanking manoeuvres...would be awesome. And it would've made this CG something to talk about in a good way. Imagine the GalNet article: CODE, smaller in number, picking off the weaker members of the defending fleet and retreating, roving patrols finding and destroying sneaky pirates...all the while, wings of traders with escorts fly past the fighting (in the same instance!), hoping to whatever god there is that they don't get spotted (or caught in the crossfire).

I use brackets too much (probably)
Sadly what you want will never happen. It's not in Codes interest to stand and fight. They have always been using hit and run tactics. Hit enough ships till a mob comes and slink into the next instance.

I think they make the game better, but that is just an opinion i suppose.
They do when they pirate the proper way. As in "Stand and deliver" Not "oh hai i just interdicted you now embrace the void space dust"

You would have a point, if all those threads claiming the CG was ruined for them by Code did not exist, or all those reactionary propositions to punish people who PK in Open.

Well those are subjective opinions about people's experiences - the figures tell the story of the result.

So I'd say my point still stands.

(And I agree with the idea that PK'ing should have far greater consequences as it happens).

So, here's my view, as a newbie.... (i.e. first Elite since my BBC sponsored youth)

Because of the Code's actions, the challenge was more fun.

If there wasn't "peril" at the end, why would I bother to wing up?
If I didn't have to wing up, why bother talking to other players? Or learn how to wing up? Or use beacons? Or think about dropping out somewhere other than where I was expected? Or going Silent?
If I didn't chat to the other players, it would have been boring - a straight (real) Time = (virtual) Money swap
If there wasn't peril around the journey, it wouldn't have had the suspense it did.

However, I think the Code did a couple of things which were less benficial to everyone's experience:

Pirating rather than wanton destruction of lesser vessels and commanders - don't turn the CGs into elitist events that only the best can be involved in.
Also, the landing pad can't destroy trick is no different to combat unplugging, which they abhore, so that's hypocritical (I think). That was a bit cowardly too.

I'd say to those against the Code's actions that really they did improve the experience (for me), they made your heart beat a little stronger, and we all still delivered that scrap, and there is now a Hutton Mug. So, we won.

I'd say to the Code maybe they got a little too trigger happy... It's like putting the cherries on top of the cake, and then hitting it with a sledgehammer. I'm glad you went there, I'm glad you added peril and made us all work together... but I think perhaps you acted unfairly in some ways and could have been a bit more imaginative in your actions. Fair matters in games. Unfair games are not played. And I think you like this game.

It might have sounded like a joke to you, not to me. It's on video someone asking if anyone minds them hacking and strangely nearly all didn't. But it's ok because one of them is going to have an in depth investigation to completely "null further suspicion"... not to actually find out if it happened!

The first post in this thread makes it clear that they actively find and use exploits and it really isn't a long jump from there to hacking. When their own members admit it on video I'll believe that and my own ears over the "it was joke" excuse that came out after they were caught. As will be clear to anyone who watched it that was not a joke. Feel free to believe what you like and I'll do the same.

If this is about super cruising speed, I heard it live, it was made by someone who was at the station at the time of saying it (I am 99% sure), who has been there 3 days (his ship was able to dock so respawns after death were at the station), never leaving the system. It was sarcasm and said in jest, in-fact all the other people on TS replied to the joke with shhhhh, you cannot talk about that because it was obviously a joke.

In the whole wing flown by code, there was only 1 ship which could not dock at Hutton, that was mine (ok a 2nd clipper joined a few hours on last day), most equipped their ships to stay without rearming, all lasers, and removed SCBs in favour of hull reinforcements, I was the only one who on death had a 1.5 hour trip back to system.

I guess those that got killed felt it the most. Also, how much of the CG was delivered in solo?

And it's a valid one too. Can you imagine though what the event would have been like with real dedicated servers, populations of 100-200+ per instance? They would not have had a chance and instead of a little skirmish with so called 'tactics' it could have been a battle of epic proportions that could have bought players back from solo.

Sadly I played 32 player p2p PvP games when I was much, much younger and now they hold no interest to me. I can't even be bothered with 32 player BF4 games anymore, 64 players only but would love more!

I don't know if many pirates of old would have stayed in a fair fight if they had an option. They are not military. They are not supposed to be brave defenders of some ideal. They're pirates. That, at least, fits the RP.

+ rep to OP.

It is nice to know that, when I undock in Open, there's people out there trying to catch me. That's real people, organizing themselves and planning to catch me. Not just silly AI, but actual players filling the universe of content for me to enjoy. All that for just 50 bucks I paid.
And they even share some of their knowledge in the forums with good tips.

What's not to love?

Some pirates of yore took towns. One even went inland to raid a spanish town/base. [h=2]Sir Henry Morgan[/h] he took Panama.

Yeah well put,

I actually had no problem with the pirate thing cause it added something but the way they did it showed they lacked any imagination at all. To suggest they put it together in 5 mins is nothing short of huge testicles. They had a week and were doing stuff 3 days before the end at least.

As my school report may have said '' Lacks imagination, could do much better''

Most of what OP said is easy to figure out and to be honest, nothing special.
The most important part, though, is that Code and other such groups are an organized group.
Now it's been in my experience that the lot of you (maybe not you specifically) are incredibly anti-social in game and would rather set yourself on fire than form a group to counter anything. Which is the point.
So stop being anti-social jerks and start grouping up to counter the enemy.
There are Saturday morning cartoon specials dating back to the 70's explaining this concept.
Strength in numbers.

The are you anti-social thread. Hmm, I don't know you in real life so I wont talk to you in game. I have to concentrate to much. etc etc etc

Nonya business 😄
i experienced first hand being fired on in a station. Still don't know why, maybe I tried to lift off too early. Anyways, I escaped on my third attempt in an Asp. Costly. Happened once in a clipper too but was easy to get out of that one, though repairs on a clipper ain't cheap. Personally, I don't think it's fair to respawn in the same station.

Anti social jerks? Really?

Maybe I just don't want to be social with you.

I'm still laughing at the 'protect our rights to post' thing. It sounds like something Robocop would say.

There is still a place for murder in this game.

Anti-social?

This has been one of the most social CGs to date I'd say - even had it's own radio broadcast - facebook - regular winged up covoys over several instances simultaneously - website and loads of people from all over the world in teamspeak day and night.

Maybe you need to read up on the definition of social.

Fine - as long as it's punished appropriately in game.

And say what? Their intentions are clear.

"Don't shoot, I don't want any trouble" has worked for me in the past. One of two things will happen, they'll engage in dialogue or they'll kill you. That's a 50/50 chance. If you try to run you have a 100% chance of dying unless you have a ship fast enough to outrun whoever interdicted you and if that were the case they wouldn't be posting on here complaining about how they died.

When I tried pirating I always sent a warning first to stop etc but if someone boosted or tried to run then I took that as a sign that they wouldn't cooperate and killed them. I know some people are reporting they were shot instantly and that sucks but if someone is out to murder you then you're already dead as soon as you've been interdicted so why not play the odds game and try to talk your way out of it?

Point 5: no, I don't stop for cargo scans anymore because security always opens fire. Better to evade and get to the station asap

"Don't shoot, I don't want any trouble" has worked for me in the past.

Sadly, this is about Hutton Orbital, where the so-called "pirates" were only interested in killing as many people as possible, not the contents of their hold. If it's a real pirate then dropping some valuable cargo (assuming I had any) is exactly how I'd go, but that sort seem pretty few and far between.
