Torval Power Base in State of Collapse?

- Description – This should ideally be no more than 150 words

After weeks of valiant effort to sustain her power base, leaked documents indicate Torval's power base is collapsing. The documents indicate the first signs are the the loss of the most productive systems furthest from her head quarters. The validity of these documents has been brought in to question along with the data that is available to political analysts. Many say that the polls and data are rigged by an unknown third party and are at best a false indication of the state of play. Her supporters have speculated that the collapse has been coming for over a month. Other powers look on with mixed feelings and great concern for their own well being. However, there has been no official statement and many are unclear what the actual situation is. Some things are certain, nothing is clear and the available information is frequently misguiding and inaccurate.

Title: Formalization of Peace: Utopia and the Empire

Description:

Amicable relations have always prevailed between the Empire and the burgeoning commune of Utopia. During the past week, ambassadors representing the interests of Utopia and the Empire met to discuss the formalization of peaceful relations between the two powers. Their negotiations proved fruitful.

In addition to formalized peace and neutrality, the agreement added provisions for protected trade routes through Imperial and Utopian territory. Financial markets have reacted favorably to this news in anticipation of profits to be generated from increased trade between the two powers.

Utopian ambassador Ben Ryder extended an invitation to the Empire: “We wish to commemorate this agreement by inviting all Imperial citizens to visit Utopia's great Sim-Archive to take part in what we hold most dear. We look forward to a new age of peace and prosperity."

Title:
Chelomey Orbital Arena Hosts Spectacular Zero-G Show

Description:
Chelomey Orbital hosted the first performance of the Prismatic Aurora, an event sponsored by the Prismatic Imperium. The aquatic themed show featured large pools of suspended and illuminated water. Performers dressed with long ribbons drifted from one pool to another in a choreographed dance. The artists responsible for the display stated that the show represents a united people for the future of the Empire.

The audience in attendance were of various importance. Prismatic Imperium leader Lord Corwin Ryan was present with many of his guests including the well known Solomon Alcubierre who comes from a family of scholars, explorers, and renowned scientists, and Legate Andariel Valaquenta who leads the 13th Legion. CEO Kevin Massey and his chief security head Jesse Ladd were rumored to be seated as guests of Lord Corwin Ryan as well. Several pilots from the 13th Legion attended and had enthusiastic responses when interviewed about the show.

Title: Emperor's Grace Mobilise To Defend The Empire

Description: Following their redeployment to an outlying system for hitherto classified reasons, Emperor's Grace under their pragmatic leader, Admiral Vaarwen Mako Brennus, has undertaken a state of preparedness to engage traitorous Imperial elements otherwise known as Emperor's Dawn. Under the express command of Chancellor Blaine, Emperor's Grace has been instructed to conduct any and all activity which will lead to the destruction of traitorous elements within the Empire.

An advance party is presently collating intelligence gathered regarding hidden bases and areas of operation currently being conducted by the rogue Imperial elements calling themselves Emperor's Dawn and a full strength military task force is presently being prepared.

Emperor's Grace is a traditional military leaning faction so it is noted with surprise that they should be at the forefront of military activity against Emperor's Dawn. An aide to Admiral Brennus allayed concerns regarding the wide ranging rules of engagement, which include authority by the Empire to enter any star system for the purpose of investigation and military response by declaring that although Emperor's Dawn were a traditionalist faction, they crossed the line when they undertook to assassinate the late Emperor Hengist Duval and for the good of the Empire, they will face summary justice and that any system harbouring these renegade elements will be given an opportunity to hand these elements over to Imperial juristiction without penalty. However if that system conspired with Emperor's Dawn, they too would face the wrath of Imperial vengeance.

Title:

Theory of Forms

Description:

Although medical technology in 3301 has greatly prolonged human lifespans, true immortality still eludes scientists.

However, Sim Archive curators on Antal have begun showing the galaxy how Utopians view the subject in a series of recent seminars. Curator Gol Deleuze explained the archives role:

"Utopian transcendental technology exists to preserve the thoughts and memories of an individual that would otherwise be lost when they die. Stored in the Sim Archive, neural patterns drive generated simulacrum that allow us direct access to our predecessor’s lives and teachings."

Although seen by many as benign, some academics have voiced concern over the role of the technology. Noted theorist Lev Baudrillard writing for the Zandu Science Journal remarked "How can we trust this perversion of reality is not distorted to fit Utopian doctrine?"

In a later statement, Deleuze responded to the criticism: "To tamper with the stored information is to desecrate the memories of the individual they came from. We preserve, nothing more."

Title: Forgotten Corners of the Galaxy - Canopus

Description:

Some 100 ly from the nearest inhabited systems – excluding its neighbour Exphiay – the star system of Canopus is one of humanity’s furthest flung colonies. Here two tiny rocky planets orbit the blue-white supergiant. Neither Maxwell’s World nor Rance’s Wreck support human habitation, and both planets lack the metal abundance that would make them an attractive prospect for a mining outpost. Nevertheless, hardy pioneers have chosen to make their future here on the frontier.

Rangarajan’s Base is a large spaceport for such a low population, supporting only 900 enterprising individuals who make it their home. The station’s economy is largely driven by extraction of the scarce ores on Rance’s Wreck and the inhabitants eke out a mainly subsistence living.

Whilst the system is currently controlled by the Canopus Crimson Dragons, the criminal gang has been losing its grip in the past weeks as Federation democrats Exphiay for Equality seem committed to bring law and order to Canopus. EfE party leader Ma Bai-tian stated; “The system is materially unpromising, but it’s a well-known name and with commercial investment could become a tourist destination for those wishing to see the supergiant. We hope in future to produce unique merchandise to attract more visitors to Canopus.”

Note to FD: I've been working on a short series of articles on this topic, "Forgotten Corners of the Galaxy" about systems far flung from the inhabited cluster, and I've noticed that one or two of them, not all, would be great locations for a rare good. I know you must be worried about flooding the market with rare goods, but I would argue that these distant systems are challenging enough to get to that players won't become over-saturated and that a rare good at the end of their journey would be a suitable reward, as well as adding some interest and a reason for people to visit these distant locations. Now, I'm not associated with a group in respect to these systems, and right now of course we're plenty busy with other CGs - but it's worth you guys considering for the future. Canopus, Quince, Fehu, and LTT 9846 all seemed to hint at interesting and unique sites or histories that would be good locations for a rare good.

Title: The Dark Side Of The Empire
Location: If not Galnet then Sol, Alioth, Harma, Achenar

An Imperial law enforcement survey from the last seven days has revealed over 240,000 alleged criminals were summarily executed by Commanders loyal to the Empire. These are executions without a trial, highlighting a side of the Imperium which Senators are often reluctant to discuss.

The largest culprits are the supporters of Arissa Lavigny Duval, and the implementation of their 'crime sweeps' is made even more disturbing when one considers they are made outside Duval's sphere of political influence. The heavy handed approach threatens to split Lavigny and Aisling supporters; the latter holding more liberal views than many of their counterparts.

Although other political leaders, such as President Hudson in the Federation, also offer a more forceful approach to those with opposing views, Lavigny’s struggle is particularly pronounced due to the current concern of overloading prison colonies. Citizens and Senators argue that before being filled with P.O.W’s they should first be filled with lesser criminals that otherwise face the end of their short lives.

Title: Trouble in Ch'i Lin

Today there has been a lot of action in Empire space, as the faction "BBFa" has been vying for control over the Ipilyaqa system. They have taken down many pirates, quite hastily, and this has resulted in great frustration from their opposition. Some of these pirates migrated to the nearby Ch'i Lin system, where they have begun to tax smugglers who have been coming into the system on behalf of Emperor's Dawn. They are calling themselves the Hathor Pirates, led by CMDR Hagglebeard and CMDR Muffindrake, and originating from the Dahan system.

Narcotics are illegal in the Ch'u Lin system, and so the system's authorities aren't completely vengeful on the pirates, and give them a wide berth. The system is rapidly becoming a staging area for all local pirates mounting attacks on both Ipilyaqa and the Ch'i Lin system itself. One resident, John O'Reilly, had this to day:

"Although pirates seem to be the scourge of the space-lanes to all who fly them, they're actually having quite a good effect in this system. We obviously won't allow any of them to set foot in our starports, and we don't want them to abuse their stay, but I'm confident the police will give them some room to move. Our economy's never been so good, and I've gotten a raise for the first time in years!"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CMDR Hagglebeard

Now time to go OOC

FD, please turn down the security in Ch'i Lin a notch, and buff black market sales, while increasing security in Ipilyaqa. Is this a crazy request? (Not criticizing, seriously, is it too much to ask for?)

TITLE: Milestones and Millstones

DESCRIPTION:
This week the galaxy mourns news that the tally of marked slaves abducted from systems dominated by the ruthless Kumo Crew has surpassed one million. Since Delaine’s rise to power, untold millions have lost their lives fighting for freedom in pockets of resistance. Millions more have paid the ultimate price for raising their voices in opposition to the self-styled Pirate King. The free peoples of the galaxy must now come to terms with the human cost of the apathy that permitted this tragedy and ponder one simple question: “What now?"

Gallant efforts of the Imperial fleet and intrepid volunteers from the Federation have mitigated the rising tide of crime, but have yet to eradicate the entrenched crime lords of the Pegasi Sector. As these forces conclude the second month of operations, we can only hope that they and other champions of justice will soon liberate this war-torn region of space.

Touche touche - maybe I'll do a tally of the billions of Imp Slaves imported to Lusonda :D:D

The Marked Slaves love it, it's much better than being an Imperial serf.

Plus, they get to be with their family when they die, rather than be transported around the galaxy like the Imperial ones.

Imperial ones get to be with their families before they die, and they get a tour of the galaxy. Sounds posh to me! Except of course for the poor ones that find themselves sold to your black markets.

Since there are no official numbers I'm going to estimate 1 billion Imperial Slaves rescued from Imperial rule by the Lusonda Confederacy :D -- and I'll stop hijacking the thread now because this is old news - But the amount of criminals killed by Lavigny isn't - that's never been reported before :D
