Title: Formalization of Peace: Utopia and the Empire

Description:

Amicable relations have always prevailed between the Empire and the burgeoning commune of Utopia. During the past week, ambassadors representing the interests of Utopia and the Empire met to discuss the formalization of peaceful relations between the two powers. Their negotiations proved fruitful.

In addition to formalized peace and neutrality, the agreement added provisions for protected trade routes through Imperial and Utopian territory. Financial markets have reacted favorably to this news in anticipation of profits to be generated from increased trade between the two powers.

Utopian ambassador Ben Ryder extended an invitation to the Empire: “We wish to commemorate this agreement by inviting all Imperial citizens to visit Utopia's great Sim-Archive to take part in what we hold most dear. We look forward to a new age of peace and prosperity."

Title: Federal Forces Hold the Line at Nurundere

Supporters of President Zachary Hudson declared victory in Nurundere this week, weathering stiff opposition from resistance forces. The system had been the focus of an Empire-backed counteroffensive - codenamed Operation Janus - which failed to prevent Federation loyalists from taking the system.

Citizens of Gubarev Port were observed chanting pro-Hudson slogans & waving Federation flags in the station docking bay, celebrating the return of pilots from the combat zones as hostilities closed.

The victory came hot on the heels of news that Hudson-pledged systems targeted by Operation Janus had also successfully repelled attacks.

“Don’t get cocky,” Jack Kerner, a Federation privateer, said to a group of his fellow pilots, “We won a decisive victory here today, but don’t assume for a split-second that it’s always going to be like this.”

Legate Andariel Recovers

As of September 18th, 3301, Legate Andariel Valaquenta of Aisling’s 13th Legion has made a full recovery from his mystery illness.

Official reports claim the Legate contracted an illness at the beginning of the month, while visiting the Imperial palace to pay his respects to the late Emperor, Hengist Duval. There have been various theories to what happened to Andariel, ranging from the Cerberus Plague, to attempted assassination by poisoning. The Legate was approached by Jesse Ladd, of The People’s Media, regarding heightened security, to which the Legate responded with his endorsement to boost the Quan-Tech Security System to its full potential.

In a short interview with The People’s Media, The Legate had this to say;
“I would like to apologize to my legionaries for my absence over the past few weeks, but my health was failing me to the point I thought I may not pull through. I am on my way to a full recovery and I will be back in the cockpit in no time, fighting for Lady Duval. Thank you.”

Title: Imperial Commanders Call for Civil Discussion during Succession Debate

Description:

As the month of debate in the Senate regarding the Imperial succession continues, the Imperial citizenry have been discussing the merits of the various candidates and speculating on who will ascend the marble steps. For the most part these discussions have been friendly, and it is widely acknowledged that this month represents a window of opportunity for all candidates and their supporters to make their case. However, in certain parts trouble has flared up as discussions become heated.

Imperial commanders are calling on their fellows to keep the conversation civil, with Cmdr Corrigendum pledged to Arissa Lavigny stating: "If our future Emperor benevolently strives to protect and provide for all Imperial citizens, be they the lowliest Imperial Slave or the most opulently arrayed Patron, I couldn't care less what his or her background is. Should the future Emperor preside over the people in this manner, honoring the founding principles of the Empire, our prosperous continuance will be assured."

Cmdr Stateira "Starcloak" Eleshenar pledged to Denton Patreus added: "Once it's done, it's done. Now is the chance for all candidates and their supporters to freely and openly promote their cause, without opprobrium for doing so. I call on my fellows not to let the debate descend into petty squabbling."

The Senate discussion will end in just under three weeks time.

TITLE: Lave 2 Expedition Controversy

DESCRIPTION:
The heavily populated world of Lave shares its star with a barren sister-world, Lave 2. Devoid of an appreciable atmosphere and historically deemed unsuitable for terraforming and colonization, Lave 2 has remained relatively unexplored.

Garen Smythe, president of the Lave Cartographic Society, hosted a press conference this week to announce an expedition to the surface of Lave 2.

“The first phase of the expedition is set to launch in three weeks,” announced president Smythe. “Once habitable bases of operation are established we will be able to sustain a long-term survey of the surface. This expedition will broaden our horizons, opening opportunities for Lave to continue thriving.”

Critics of the expedition argue that Lave 2 should be remain undisturbed, warning that the expedition could disturb the hideout of Dr. Walden and draw his wrath. Most residents of Lave dismiss the concerns as the silly superstition and deride the critics, calling them modern luddites intent on derailing progress.

TITLE: Atrocity in Imperial Space

DESCRIPTION:
Making good on his threats, Archon Delaine’s fleets have struck deep in the heart of the Empire. Assaults on control systems proven to be meaningless distractions as the Kumo Crew’s true interest to be the convoys of Pegasi Sector citizens seeking asylum in the Munshin system.

Common jump-points to Munshin are reportedly infested with swarms of Kumo fighters. Black boxes have been recovered from hundreds of destroyed ships registered to Independent, Federation, and Imperial worlds in the Pegasi Sector.

Dozens of freighters bound for Munshin and laden with supplies to succor the refugees have been mercilessly destroyed. Freighters carrying supplies for the refugees are advised to fly with escort to mitigate the opportunistic attacks.

The Imperial Internal Security Service has requested volunteers and additional system security forces to patrol the region to protect refugees and supply lines.

The attacks have served to highlight the atrocities endured daily by Pegasi Sector citizens. In response, the Imperial Navy has witnessed a sharp increase in enlistment.

TITLE: Imperial Admiral Redeployed

DESCRIPTION:
Senator Lavigny-Duval has recalled one of her admirals from the Pegasi Sector to bolster the security of strategic systems within her jurisdiction. Admiral Lucius Lavigny, the senator’s second cousin through Aristide Lavigny, commands Lavigny’s Legion, the private guard of the prestigious Lavigny family.

Admiral Lavigny commented on his redeployment:

“We have been permitted a brief respite while resupply and refitting is conducted. Within the week the fleet will begin patrolling Senator Lavigny-Duval's territory. I have authorized commanders ImperiusII and Corrigendum to continue operations in the Pegasi Sector with a detachment of Lavigny’s Legion. The apprehension of Archon Delaine and his lieutenants remains among Senator Lavigny-Duval’s top priorities, and we seek to fulfill her will whether at home or abroad."

Public concern is growing that criminal organizations within the Empire are forging ties with the Kumo Crew. The redeployment of this battle-hardened fleet with months of experience hunting the Kumo Crew seems a perfect counter to this threat.

DESCRIPTION: After a minor pirate faction locked itself inside the Command and Control centre of Alpers City and put the system into anarchy the federation backed facton of Paesia Future has finally removed the pirates from the C&C offices. After the resulting war between Khan Gubii Purple Family and Paesia Future was resolved with the depoyment of numerous federation warships and through the dedication of federation aligned pilots and and unknown number of bounty hunters peace and stability has finally returned to the high tech refining facility.

As a result of this expansion, Paesia Future now hold key mining, industrial, refining and high technology producing systems, no doubt they will continue to consolidate and expand their influence in the sector in the coming months ahead as the group still needs to secure adequate food production facilities for its aim of becoming completely self sufficient

Emperor's Grace Issues Gratitude To Pilots Federation

Independent Commanders of the Pilots Federation have been recognised for their superb efforts in rallying to Senator Denton Patreus in the Maausk system, where Maausk Emperor's Grace has been heavily involved in military action against Emperor's Dawn, the insurgents responsible for the assassination of the late Emperor Hengist Duval.

An aide to Admiral Vaarwen Mako Brennus has issued the following statement from Emperor's Grace: Many thousands of brave pilots have responded magnificently to the call by Senator Patreus to punish those responsible for the murder of our beloved Emperor and thanks to their robust response, Emperor's Dawn has lost all influence in the Maausk system and their cell has been destroyed.

I think we have been decidedly not focussed on Munshin... You like to keep prodding that Federation button don't you. Our entire focus this cycle has been Aisling and systems other than Munshin. Perhaps this evidence is really Patreus commanders pretending to be Kumo Crew. Delaine certainly doesn't have the resources to go Aislings other systems and here - and a quick look at the Aisling systems that have been undermined will definitively show where the focus has been.

Erm... Did I say anything about the Federation in that submission that I didn't say about every other faction? Even if I had, does my pledge status mean I can't mention any faction outside the Empire in a positive or negative context?

I'm sorry if you disagree with what I wrote, but it's a story that I can envision taking place in the context of ongoing events. I personally disagreed with the Kumo Crew submissions taking full credit for Imperial turmoil while merely urinated in the ocean of Federation merits, but I didn't criticize any of those articles.

Our entire focus this cycle has been Aisling and systems other than Munshin.

That's exactly what I wrote about. At no point did I say in my submission that the attacks were in the Munshin system. Rather I said they took place in "common jump-points to Munshin." I had absolutely no confirmation until you stated your focus has been on other systems, so thank you for validating my empty words.

Yes, I write from an Imperial perspective and have my own opinions of galactic politics. So what? Can we disagree while remaining respectful of each others professional work? Evidently not. This is the primary reason I'm distancing myself from /r/ElitePress (Interstellar Press), even though I'm a cofounder. I want Interstellar Press to succeed, and it's becoming increasingly clear that it can't while the taint of "Corrigendum" is associated with it.

Cheers.

Title: Forgotten Corners of the Galaxy - LTT 9846

Description:

Some 50 ly distant from the nearest inhabited system the LTT 9846 Boys criminal gang rule over a population of 65000 with an iron fist. Originally the site of a crashed prison transport vessel some 450 years ago, hence the name of the station; Geoffrey’s Crash, the 300 original inhabitants consisted of prisoners, guards, and the ship’s crew, who managed to survive long enough to establish a small settlement and the rights to the system’s mineral wealth. From the profits of mining the burgeoning community was able to purchase the technology to terraform the first planet.

Magna, as the planet was named, has a growing industrial economy, supported by the space station. Days are 19.2 hours long and years just under twice that of an Earth year. Surface temperature is a warm 30°C, with 4.6% oxygen but 5.45 atmospheres, making the percentage of oxygen feel much higher.

Other factions have gained a small foothold over the centuries, with a local corporation, feudal system, and co-operative attempting to gain control respectively, but the criminal gang remains strong, partly through historic tradition channelling new generations into the gang family, but partly due to the fact that slavery is a widespread practise here. It is estimated that about two thirds of the population, just over 40000 people, are in chains, their unpaid labour fuelling the LTT 9846 Boys’ attempt to expand their influence into the fringes of the inhabited cluster.

Excellent stuff, great to see it was published.

FD why was the peace treaty with the Empire cut?

The active player base for both have been working hard to make it happen. So why put a deliberate blocker in the way?

I have an interest in this too. The "Celebrating Utopia" article I submitted about a player party at Utopia which included member of the Empire and Federation along with Utopian hosts wasn't published. For sure it was not over the word limit, and since it was a player fuelled event I know it did not predict an FD storyline, neither did it contradict one - in future if they were to go to war it could just be said that "Utopia's unity celebrations briefly brought opposing sides together but ultimately failed", so publishing the piece wouldn't contradict or ruin anything. With all due humble respect, the players involved on all sides really enjoyed the change of pace from constant fighting and as a result genuinely cared about the event, so people were pretty disappointed that it wasn't published. I hope FD isn't offended by this question - it's a testament to your hard work on this game that people really care so much about stuff like a player-driven party at Utopia or a player-negotiated peace treaty between Utopia and the Empire; you've created a space where your players are making their own playground and getting genuinely emotionally invested in stuff like this.

Title: Annual Military Exercise Commences in Eta Cassiopeiae

Place: Eta Cassiopeiae

Time: ASAP

Description:
Every year, the Federal Navy hosts a joint military exercise known as Operation Cold Forge. Hundreds of ships and thousands of crewmen, maintenance, and support staff converge in Eta Cassiopeiae to perfect tactics and procedures, as well as increase operational relationships between Federation naval units and defense forces.

“In this day and age, the readiness of our military is of the utmost importance,” said Admiral Louis Harrison, the commanding officer overseeing this year’s exercise at Navy Central. “Operation Cold Forge provides us the opportunity to refine on our combat doctrine and ensure that our forces are in fighting shape.”

In addition to mock naval engagements, there are also disaster preparedness and emergency response mobilization drills. “Being able to mobilize an effective response to disasters or crises is a critical function of any modern navy,” Harrison added.

The exercise is expected to conclude at the end of October.

Here is the second of my articles regarding the Deneb Algedi Transition as I described in my first one: (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=101801&page=57&p=2827410&viewfull=1#post2827410)
The DAC has entered a Boom state as I'd anticipated and two of the lower factions are now at war, so again my sources are the incoming player faction and real in game events.
-
I've tried to bear in mind the edits you made on the last one to keep the prose a bit more simple and direct, and tried and keep the word count lower. I dont always succeed at that. Here we go:
-
Date: This week
Location: Deneb Algedi
Title: TL Armoured Transport Halts Operations in Deneb
Description:
Even as war erupted over the weekend in Deneb Algedi, today the TL Armoured Transport Company, who had been working in conjunction with the Deneb Algedi Corporation, announced it has ceased operations until further notice. Rumor has it the stoppage is from the TLATC’s reluctance to become involved in the recent conflict between the Jet Mafia and the Justice Party. When confronted with this, CEO Kilrain of TLATC seemed amused.
-
“Myself and my commanders were culled from the old Daedalus Heavy Reconnaissance Wing after Halsey era cutbacks shut it down. We don’t shy from combat.” The issue he explained is one of legality. TLATC operates within strict Federal regulations regarding corporate governance, and it expects its partners to do the same. “Over the last few days we’ve intercepted communications between the Jet Mafia and Youming Communists that may suggest some connection to the DAC. If true, this represents an infraction of Federal guidelines, so TLATC has launched an investigation into the DAC to determine their validity. This is a routine investigation in accordance with Federal statutes. Until it is concluded, we have suspended our operations save for extraction security. We won’t leave hard working DAC pilots out to dry.”
-
Lucien Corbeau, CEO of the Deneb Algedi Coprporation only offered a brief statement at the news. ”I have nothing to hide. Mr. Kilrain will find shortly enough he’s been chasing housewife gossip. They’ll be back to work before you know it.”
