Well with the new patch I was able to join a game starting with team match. Was put in a team deathmatch with one other player on the same side..... this is silly if there is only one player why would you get put on the same side?

I don't mean to sound rude or insulting please take this criticism constructively, these patch notes are garbage and I don't mean the changes themselves, I'm sorry Brett but I think that a designer/programmer should write the patch notes. When a community manager is made to do the patch notes it often ends up like a game of Telephone which results in patch notes being written more like a conversation than a change log, "we can't actually communicate so don't indicate that we can" makes your notes portray Elite: Dangerous as a sentient being capable of obeying the order to change its own source code, I don't even understand what it was supposed to mean.

I have not been able to find 'any' game since the Beta5 patch, not even a deathmatch lobby on my own.
TYPICAL, I hit post and I find a lobby of 5 :)

Greetings Commanders! We'll be pushing beta build #5 to the servers soon. Downtime is expected to last around 30 minutes and will begin at 3.30PM BST. The following are the changes done...

  • Reduced the audio virtualisation distance of scanners
  • Fix the hyperspace effect

Thanks!

Ok what does reduce audio virtualization distance of scanners mean exactly?

Also what are those white orbs in Hyperspace? If I was in SC I'd say other ships but in Hyperspace it's a different ballgame. Can FD divulge whether or not what we "seen" in hyperspace has an actual meaning or is it just random stuff that looks pretty?

  • Added approved player group descriptions to the galaxy map
Thanks!

Could you elaborate on this Brett? I have a group (Adle's Armada) That has submitted my faction to be added to a system. Where in the Galmap can I view my group's description?

As far as I recall, patch note bullet points are taken directly from FD's repository commit log. They are therefore one-liners written by the developer who committed the change(s) in question.

The community manager takes the list of change descriptions and puts it up here for us.

In the past, FD copped stick for "obscure" developer-speak, so the community manager (or someone) will sometimes step in and rephrase some of them for non-technical types.

Can't please everyone, I guess.

You will need to be in the system
Should be on the Right hand panel, status tab, cycle until you get system status that list the factions and their states, select your faction

At present they only seem to be listed on the galaxy map. Angeli Imperial are mentioned but not actually listed. It seems like a 'baby steps' approach is being taken.

When a dev writes patch notes you get notes like this:

* Issue #23423423: 0x4f3c34 unhandled exception issue. Resolved. LOL, John forgot to sanitize the inputs.

The community manager takes the hundreds of resolved issues, sorts through them, pics out those that can be published and are relevant, and tries to translate them into something understandable by the average non-technical player.

Sure, community manager might not make perfect notes, but for most players dev notes would be worse.

I also suspect the patch notes we get are summaries or even incomplete - I've found things that were fixed, but didn't seem to be mentioned in the patch notes.

Yeah, definitely incomplete at times. This can upset people when they are things like stealth nerfs or tweaks that affect gameplay in an unexpected way.

Of course, sometimes its just regressions or new bugs that have crept in and were not noticed by QA before release. These things happen, especially on a big project.

Nice to have more community features :)
Small question, is there any plan to have a kind of API to get a complete list of existing groups and detailed data for each group ?
could be nice to implement some live data on player group websites.
In addition could be perfect to have also some basic stats about players and their allegiance.

With matchmaking it does look like numbers are the main issue from those online at the moment. However there are some other issues being looked into, such as making sure that players are being recycled properly when they exit games or matchmaking.

Michael

I dont want to be rude Michael, but I almost shure it's not the problem. That so many post about this problem makes me think there are enough players trying to join, they just can't find each other. And as I also mantioned my experiance, I found a lot of different match lobby with different commanders, but everybody was waiting for other players. You should not miss that one of the main problem is the match dont start with the minimum required players. It makes the whole procces harder for everyone. As I and a lot of other commanders mantioned earlier We really need an estimated waiting time(especially if it taes that much time), some info about other players in the lobby and so on... You could show us a lot of helpfull data, what eventually could even prove that there aren't enough players, if u can implent it right... Again I dont want to be rude, just honest. Please rethink this matchmaking system from the scratch, couse if u launch CQC with these kind of problems... There are enough worrys about matchmaking in openplay, the game does not need more.

Excellent question !
I'll also ask this question/idea on the groups leaders forum

"I feel these patch notes don't convey enough, or the proper information."
That is how it is done.

match making needs some work. been trying to do CQC all morning.

I think it would work better is there was a lobby type system, where it listed the cmdr names and in groups, like team deahmatch, deathmatch, capture the flag ect..

It could also list private groups so you can set up or join your friends easier.
