Actually, CIG promissed that not just the forums, but the entire content that they share would be exclusive for backers. They even used that as a sales bait, making people rush to pledge at the beginning and during the first months after the end of the original funding campaign. There is no doubt about that, since its all public record. Ask me and I bring the proof if there is interest on that.
Technically they decided only now, 10 months behind the schedule, to accomplish in a very tiny part, with that promisse.

CIG is a case study in how not to keep your promise and get away with it.

On topic - locking content/forum is not a good idea - example - If I would not be already a backer I would loss some % of interest in backing the product after this decision.

Hey again guys! Hope you had a nice week off :)

I'll start off the posting with this video Pedro posted on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poG3Wvb8FU8

Yep, some very nice music.

Yep, this sums up perfectly how horribly broken the flight model and combat is.

All you do is get in range and then just circle-strafe until one of you dies. No piloting skill required at all, just mouse aiming and a war of attrition. Turrets in space.

That really is awful.

You're in a spaceship that turns not much slower than you can spin your head. It looks like it moves like your character would on the ground.

What a joke.
I got dizzy just by watching this, let alone playing it.

That's how I felt too, it felt like hard work just watching it. I also cannot stand the black/red out effects you get, I know they have a place in helping to reduce the rapid direction changes but I'm not sure I could stand playing the game for any length of time if that was a regular occurrence.

It's a shame really because the graphics are excellent and some of the ideas they have do sound really good, and I do like some of the handcrafted and detailed environments they are creating. I'd love to back it but at this point I just can't justify it based on what I'm seeing. I suppose I might be willing to accept a poor flight model if everything else is excellent and makes up for it, but I think I'll wait for quite a bit longer before even a proper consideration.

Dude...they REALLY don't need backing. They already have too much and despite that, the results are lacking.
If everyone would just stop throwing money at them, maybe they'd finally start moving.

Also, accepting the poor flight model would be the worst possible reaction from the crowd.

its on par with most space sims that aren't ED. Elite is pitch/roll with zero or little yaw. The game is designed this way. Otherwise you get combat like SC. Circling/strafing dace to face around, no proper dogfighting. Its realistic but boring. They addressed this early on. They made that choice so the game wouldnt play like it does in that ac vid.. I mean in Evochron mercenary for example that's all you do, drift in circles.

and yeah fo r while now ive been feeling liek SC will look a lot better and be a lot more immersive than ED.....but will have much less interesting gameplay.

I don't think AC 2.0 will go very far at all to "fixing" this b0rked flight model. There will surely be small tweaks here and there but i don't think it will be real difference to the mess we have now.

I feel like CIG are being very bull headed with continuing on this path with their flight model. We've known ED has had a decent flight model since alpha and now with CQC it's really come into its own as a FUN model to play.
